While replaying the experience of slaying Aengus, Lucian clenched his teeth and nodded abruptly. He had never imagined that Aengus would ever give in to his darker side. Aengus was seen by Lucian as being a superior guy to him, and he had thought him to be much stronger than that. He had erred.
It had been the hardest thing he'd ever done to kill Aengus. Although the other vampires had all but forgotten about him, Aengus had been his closest friend and counsel, and his murder had been required. Declan wasn't physically able to murder his father at the moment, even if he had wanted to—which he didn't—be the one to do it, since the havoc Aengus had inflicted before his death had produced a panic among the humans.
