Chapter 20 - 20. The Strange Proposal 19

Nevertheless, she was putting on a slightly dirty, and loose T-shirt, which loosely covered all the parts of her thin body except her ugly face. Her face was dark in complexion, and her dark eyes were clear and beaming, like the face of a teenager who was experiencing love for the first time. Secondly, her ugly face was characterized by larger eyes, and thick lips, and, it was conspicuously deformed by an ugly birthmark which ran from her cheeks to the end of her temple.

Although she was ugly, but those features also altered her facial qualities. Now, Max Richmond, one of the guards, who was the no – nonsense type, advanced hastily, with a killing intent on his face. Then, he faced Alfred, and announced, “Boss, this is the lady, who broke through the Hilltop Bar, which had the strongest security system in the world. She defiled the ten squads of Military Officers ten minutes ago.”

“That is weird,” Alfred asserted. Then, he looked into Hazel’s eyes critically to ascertain what she was up to. Afterward, he turned to his men, and ordered, “Leave us alone, all of you.”

Now, his Special Assistant attempted to call his attention to the danger that the presence of the ugly lady posed. Howbeit, Alfred was too preoccupied with his quest to find out who the strange-looking lady was, than to listen to him. Nevertheless, Steve, who was conscious of the safety of his boss, and the entire team, went ahead to point out his fear, “But, boss, she may be…” At that point, Alfred interrupted him with an angry tone, and demanded, “When did you start questioning my orders, Steve?”

The tone of Alfred’s voice, and the stern look on his face spoke volume, and Steve advised himself when he realized that he may be over stepping his limits.

“Pardon my recklessness, boss,” he apologized, before he curtsied, and walked away with the Squad of Military Guards. When they were gone, Alfred and Hazel took a critical look at each other for a few minutes before he inquired in a more friendly tone, “Kindly let me meet you, Young Lady?”

Now, Hazel, looked into his eyes, which were sunken into his skull, and read his serene countenance. She simpered as she wended her way towards him, and initiated a handshake, which he deliberately ignored. Without minding his bad manners, she greeted, “Hello, Mr. Walter, my name is Hazel Martin. May I have the pleasure of meeting you?”

Nevertheless, Alfred observed her broad, and deceptive smile, and gave her a cold look. In his seated position, he inquired with the gait of royalty, “Are you the Third Princess of the Martin’s Family?”

“You are right, Mr. Walter,” Hazel concurred at once. Then, instead of answering her question, Alfred reminded her of what her sense of current affairs should have taught her, and bluntly declared, “Well, my name has not changed, and I guess that you are conversant with it.”

Now, he looked at Hazel, who was speechless, and saw the desperation in her look, and offered, “Kindly take your seat.”

“Thank you for the offer, Mr. Walter” she acknowledged, and took her seat on the chair opposite him. Nonetheless, Hazel had a significant creature that ever existed in the history of Nassau. It was known to everyone that she was ill – favored in outlook, had a repulsive character, and knuckleheaded. She was the opposite of her two beautiful sisters, Ella and Sophia. They were as beautiful as the angels, who dropped from the Kingdom of God to brighten the earth. Previously, the Family Head of the Walter’s family had planned to make any of the two well-endowed Princesses Alfred’s bride, but the ugly Hazel’s name was not in his plan. Now, she decided to try her stroke of serendipity, and took the risk to get him by daring his tight security. Then, she proposed to him again with a selfish intent – to ruin the good relationship he intended to have with any of her sisters.

‘This repulsive, and low intelligent lady must have taken a lot of risk to see me, but her intentions were unclear to me,’ Alfred mumbled. Then, he cast away every sympathetic emotion, which was about to take over his sense of reasoning, and inquired coldly, “May I know why you are here, if I may ask?”

Meanwhile, Hazel took a careful look at him, and observed that he was not receptive, and may not be desiring a chat, so she rescinded her intention to give any explanation, and looked on like a cotton-headed ninny-muggins. Now, he cast a quick glance at her old purse which was beside her, and imagined what could be in it. At that point, Alfred was despondent because he disliked it when a woman was close to him.

Likewise, Hazel, was conversant with the discomfort which her presence posed to him, but could not help it because she desperately desired to ruin his engagement with any of his sisters. Subsequently, she brought out a pack of a rare perfume from her purse, and held it leisurely in her right hand, just to capture his interest. When she succeeded, she broke the unseemly silence which lasted for a few seconds, and lectured, “Mr. Walter, I have come to remind you that the Walter International Conglomerates is a leading name in the business circle. Likewise, it had successfully occupied the top of the ladder in the fragrance, and beauty industry.”

She paused, and waited for his response, but when he mute, she continued, “Well, as the successor of the Conglomerates, who had lost his sense of smell, I have come to inform you that I am one of the mysteries you need in life to remain at the top in the perfumery industry.”

Now, the psyched Alfred was bewildered by her revelation, and he furrowed his brow, and asked himself, 'How did she get this top secret information about me?' Then, the uninvited guest continued with her monologue, “Now, that you have lost one of your sense organs, don’t you think it will affect your business, and your share in the stock market may fall?” She asked nonchalantly, and pretended to be oblivious of the effect that such a disclosure had on his ego. However, as though she could read through his mind, she realized that he felt awkward with her unearthing of the secret which he had kept away from the public. Then, she declared with a sense of dominance, “Don't think too much of how I found out.”

Now, Alfred was astonished the more by her last statement, but he concealed it, and stared. Then, she unfastened the cork of the bottle of the fragrance in her hand, and scooted over to him. Then, she commanded awkwardly, “Smell my fragrance, and tell me what you think about the scent.”

“Smell?” Alfred wondered because he was aware that it was impossible for him to do that. Suddenly, as if by magic, and to his dismay, he inhaled the aroma of the medicinal fragrance which was in her right hand. At that instance, the scent of the fragrance saturated the bar, and hit his nostril. To his thrill, he observed that his smell organ, which stopped functioning several years ago, was restored instantly. Although, he was not convinced that it was real, but he was certain that he perceived something.

In a mad rush, he grabbed the bottle from her hand, and studied the container carefully to ensure that it was not a harmful substance. Then, he sprayed a drop into the air, and inhaled it. He perceived the smell of some medicinal plants, and wrinkled his nose in satisfaction. Then he looked at the perfume container once again, and looked at the ugly girl, who was seated before him, and thought, 'Can anything good come from this unintelligent, and ugly girl?'

Now, he was convinced that he was not in a trance, and that his smell organ had been restored, and he smiled with glee. To apprise himself of what he was holding, he asked with a suppressed smile, “What have you added to this fragrance, Miss Martin?”
