Chapter 4 - The First Pot of Gold

To say how Vanessa found such a high-paying tutoring job, it was all thanks to Rosendo's good looks. Letha hired them as tutors for her children after seeing Rosendo's handsome appearance on the tutoring website. Being attractive can be so useful sometimes.

"Hehe... you look much better in person than in your photo. Come on in! My two kids are waiting for you inside!" Letha smiled and gestured for Rosendo and Vanessa to come into the house.

Once inside, Letha called out her children and introduced them to Rosendo and Vanessa. Originally, Vanessa was supposed to teach Letha's daughter Miranda how to play the piano, but unexpectedly Miranda insisted that Rosendo teach her instead.

"Miranda, he doesn't know how to play the piano. Shouldn't I be teaching you?" Vanessa tried persuading Miranda.

"Don't lie to me! You're both college students; how could there possibly be someone who doesn't know how to play the piano? I don't care; I want him to teach me or else I won't hire you." Miranda pouted. She dressed very stylishly with a white shirt and short denim skirt. Despite being only 17 years old, she had no less charm than an older woman with her willowy eyebrows, big eyes, doll-like face which made her very attractive to men.

"If you don't listen anymore next week your allowance will be cancelled," Letha sternly warned her daughter while smiling sweetly at her.

In fact, she knew about her daughter's little scheme; she must have taken a liking towards Rosendo already.

"It's okay; let me teach her!" Rosendo smiled back at Miranda.

After hearing what Rosendo said,Vanessa tugged at his clothes and whispered softly,"But you don't know how."

"The old me didn't know, but I'm sure that I can play the piano now and even play it very well." Rosendo replied softly to Vanessa's question.

"Okay then! You teach Miranda," Vanessa said helplessly.

Rosendo walked up to Miranda and smiled,"Beautiful little princess, please take me to where you practice playing the piano!"

"Great!" Miranda cheered happily and led Rosendo into her room.

As soon as he entered Miranda's room, Rosendo felt like he had stepped into a pink world. The walls, bed, wardrobe, table and even the floor were all pink. Her room was quite large with the piano placed on her balcony; it was also pink just like everything else in her room. Rosendo sat down at the piano after walking over there while looking up at Miranda who was staring at him intently before asking,"What do you want to learn?"

Miranda did not answer his question but instead propped up her chin with both hands and asked him with a smile,"Do you have a girlfriend?"

"No." Rosendo answered.

Upon hearing that Rosendo didn't have a girlfriend,Miranda immediately showed an expression of joy in her eyes. She asked again,"Then what do you think of me?"

"... "Rosendo was speechless. Was she hiring him as a tutor or trying to set them up?

"You're very cute, lively, and overall,a great girl full of sunshine. That's my evaluation for you.Now can you tell me what exactly do you want to learn?"Rosendosaid finally.

"I already know how to play the piano, but I wantto learn howto producethe most beautiful sound possible."Miranda said sweetly.

Rosendo tried the sound of the piano and found that everything was standard. He then said to Miranda, "Listen carefully to this song I'm playing and tell me how you feel." Rosendo placed his hands on the piano keys.

The beautiful sound of the piano echoed, with high notes like pearls falling onto a jade plate and low notes like rolling thunder in winter. Suddenly, Rosendo pressed several keys at once, producing a sound similar to ancient battle drums charging into battle. Then his fingers danced across the keyboard faster and faster. The music changed, becoming more majestic with each wave until it felt like an unstoppable force that made one's blood boil.

At the end, Rosendo swept his right hand from beginning to end with a cool gesture. "What do you think after listening to this song?" he asked Miranda with a smile.

Miranda looked at Rosendo admiringly and said: "It sounds so good! It makes me feel excited and happy."

Suddenly there was applause outside the door as Nicolas walked in clapping his hands. He wore glasses and a suit - he was Miranda's father. "Well done! Even piano masters can't play such beautiful music," Nicolas exclaimed happily.

Letha, Vanessa, followed behind him; they were all attracted by Rosendo's music.

"By the way, why haven't I heard this song before?" Letha curiously asked.

"Hehe... Sorry, this is a song I wrote myself, so it's not surprising that you haven't heard it before," Rosendo laughed. In fact, he wrote this song when he was studying at the military academy in the future century.

Nicolas was overjoyed because he had hired someone who played better than even professional pianists for only 50 per hour! It seemed that luck was on his side!

Vanessa couldn't believe how well Rosendo played; she suspected that he had been pretending all along since losing his memory didn't explain why he suddenly became so gentlemanly and skilled at playing the piano.

To make Rosendo take his job seriously, Nicolas offered to increase his salary to 500 per hour. Vanessa also benefited from Rosendo's talent as Nicolas paid her 100 per hour.

At 10 pm, Rosendo and Vanessa left their luxurious apartment with joyful expressions because they had earned a lot of money that day. Rosendo made 1,500 while Vanessa made 300. "we owe it all to you! We wouldn't have earned so much without you," said Vanessa happily.

"Of course! Don't forget who I am," joked Rosendo. But then he thought to himself: "Finally, I have enough money to buy new clothes."

"OK, let's go eat at the delicious restaurant!" suggested Vanessa.

"Yes! We should celebrate our earnings by having a good meal there," agreed Rosendo happily. However, what she said next left him speechless.

"What? Haven't you forgotten what I told you earlier? Every night around 11 pm we wash dishes for the owner of the delicious restaurant in exchange for a monthly salary of 500." explained Vanessa.

Rosendo finally understood why his hands were so smooth - he had been washing dishes all day long! "Vanessa, listen to me. Although I've lost my memory now, I'm confident that I can give you a happy life without washing dishes anymore."
