Chapter 17 - Why is she here?

Xander's POV.

Ryan??!!

What the hell is she doing here? Shouldn't she be home schooled or something of that sort?

"Where is Luka?" I asked inwardly as I looked around for a sight of him. I wonder why he's late and I didn't even notice. What sort of best friend am I?

June's POV

Ryan, what is she doing here? I mean I know she's here to school and learn but getting admitted close to the exams, that's on a different level of 'off'.

I noticed her smiling towards me and although I was surprised, I still smiled back at her.

"This is your new classmate Miss Ryan Spencer." Turning to face Ryan,

"Do you mind greeting your classmates?" Mrs Heather asked as she introduced Ryan.

"Hi! I'm Ryan as you've heard, I hope we can all get along. Please take care of me." She introduced with a smile plastered on her face.

" I hope you guys will assist her in catching up to us, I'll leave her in your care." Mrs Heather said as she gestured for Ryan to take any seat of her choice while moving towards the board to start her lesson for the day.

Placing my book on the table, I flipped through the pages towards the last topic of interaction.

"Do you mind if I sit here with you?" I heard the familiar feminine voice close to me making me raise my head to the source of the voice. Blinking a bit at the fact that she chose to sit with Luen and I.

"Ohh,yeah, you can sit here." I said shifting towards Luen to give her space.

"Thank you." She said with a smile on her face to which I politely returned.

I turned to face my book again when I felt a gaze focused on where I sat. I turned back and saw Xander with a slight frown on his face as he looked towards our seat. I smiled at him making the crease line on his forehead relax. He returned the smile and I went back to my exercise paying attention to what the teacher was saying.

Xander's POV.

Did she necessarily have to sit close to June? What happened to the other seats, I mean Stella's and Jazmin's seats are free and they are just like her proud and bitchy and I thought she disliked people below her status? No matter how much she seems to have changed, I just can't help feeling wary about her. I felt the urge to ask her move to a different seat but with June's reassuring smile, I relented in my action besides I still have to find out why Luka isn't yet in school.

Playing with my pen as the teacher kept talking endlessly, I feel extremely bored. I rested my elbow on the table as my palm found my face, my eyes showing extreme disinterest in what the teacher was saying.

From the corner of my eye, I saw a familiar figure by the window making me move my gaze to the window. There, I saw Luka as our eyes met briefly. He signaled asking me to step out. Taking permission from Mrs Heather, I went out of the class. Breathing in the fresh air, I was glad to be out of the class. I saw Luka by a pillar in the hallway as I walked towards him.

"What the...?" I almost cursed as I saw the state Luka was in.

"Did he do this?" I asked rage boiling inside of me as my eyes stung as though its been invaded by pepper.

"Yeah, Let's talk somewhere else." He suggested looking round the corridor.

"Yeah, okay. You need to get treated first, then we'll talk next." I said as I looked at his face while trying to contain my rage.

As we moved towards the infirmary, I looked at him again before asking.

"Why did you insist on coming to school, did you even see your appearance? What would you tell Luen when she sees you like this?" I asked without breathing as I felt like smacking this guy even though he was already covered in bruises.

Scratching his head, I laughed awkwardly,

"I didn't think of that." He said as we entered the infirmary. Rolling my eyes 'of course you didn't'.

"Oh my God, Luk who did this to you?" The nurse in charge of the infirmary asked worried as soon as she set her eyes on Luka.

"Hey aunt Lory." We both greeted at the same time.

"Don't hey me, what have you done to this handsome face." She asked as she touched the bruises on his face.

"Ouch!" He winced in pain as he tilted his face to the other side.

"Ohh sorry." she said retracting her hand.

Aunt Lory went to get the first aid box while Luka and I moved towards the bed. He sat down while I stood by the side.

"Who did you fight with this time Luka?" She asked as she came back with the box and started cleaning the bruise.

"Aunty must you always think negative about me all the time, I'm innocent." He said as though he was hurt emotionally. Scoff.

"What do you expect me to think when you always get bruised. Don't think I'll accept that lie of you fell or got injured playing football." She said.

"Aunt it's true I didn't fight anyone. Actually, it's a really funny story though." he said with a little laugh and smile on his face.

"Hmph!! Let's hear it then." She said clearly not believing him.

"So, I was on my way to school with my skateboard when I saw a woman beating a little girl. I tried to find out the reason and it was because the girl refused to give her money to buy alcohol. Can you imagine that? You know I can't stand such injustice so I spoke up for the girl and well I got the beating of my life. Ouch." he said wincing a bit from the sting before his face bloomed with a smile as though he was mocking his fate. I wondered how he even came up with such story.

"Oh Luk, didn't I tell you to be careful even when you want to help someone? Now look at you." She said as she placed the last band aid on his face.

"Sorry aunt Lory." He said scratching his head awkwardly. "Don't worry, I'll be careful next time."

"I hear you, you always say that." She said scoffing making me laugh at their interaction. "Just stay safe okay?" She said as she held his face in her hand with a worried look.

"Hmm." He hummed with a reassuring smile to which she smiled back. I would have felt like a third wheel if I wasn't used to this.

"That's my boy." she said as she patted his head like a small child.

"Aunt you'll ruin my hair." He said rearranging his hair.

"Scoff. Like it wasn't already ruined." she said as she rolled her eyes. Placing the first aid box in its place, she turned towards us.

"How is my sister?" She asked turning serious, eyes laced with worry. Getting down from the bed,

"She's doing okay. Her health have become more stable." he said with a little smile.

"Tell her I'm sorry for not visiting, I'll find a way to see her again soon." She said with a sad face.

"It's okay, I'm sure she understands." he said to which she gave a slight smile.

"How is Vi?" she asked as she turned to me

"She's okay, just hoping you'll pay us a visit soon." I said with a smile on my face. Smiling,

"Tell them I'll make it up to them okay." She said with a smile on her face. Suddenly remembering something,

"Don't you two have classes or are you trying to skip?" She asked with a stern front making us laugh awkwardly at the fact that we've been caught.

"Hurry along now. See you boys later." She said as we headed out of the infirmary.

"Bye aunt Lory." We said at the same time as we moved towards the class block.
