Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

In the dimly lit house, Sarah and Lily found themselves trapped in a nightmare as monstrous creatures burst into their home with despairingly evil aims.

"Leave your homes and-" the television was repeating this message until an imp evilly chuckled as it burnt down the device.

The clattering of the TV scared Lily as Sarah covered her mouth to prevent her from speaking as they shakily hid within the basement.

The monsters scattered around the two-floor house in search of any breathing human.

Fear built up slowly more and more as the duo heard the monsters crash through their homes eagerly.

"I'm scared…" lily trembled.

"Don't worry lily, they won't find us" Sarah responded.

"okay."

Suddenly, the basement door began to rattle, in fear, Sarah held the door as hard as she could to protect them, but she saw the hinges begin to ripple and shake before shattering. The door falls off.

As the creatures closed in on them, Sarah's maternal instincts kicked into overdrive. She grabbed Lily's trembling hand and guided her through the labyrinthine hallways, their footsteps barely making a sound as they tried to evade their pursuers. Their hearts pounded in their chests, their breaths shallow and rapid, their bodies coursing with adrenaline.

The monstrous beings, fuelled by an insatiable hunger for blood, relentlessly pursued the desperate duo. The sound of their thunderous footsteps reverberated through the house, mingling with their haunting growls and snarls that seemed to pierce the very fabric of their sanity. Shadows danced along the walls as the creatures closed in, their malevolent presence suffocating the air.

Sarah's mind raced whilst lily screamed, scanning the surroundings for any possible means of escape. She dashed through the living room, past overturned furniture and shattered glass, the monsters hot on their heels. Lily, her small hand tightly clasped in Sarah's, stumbled but managed to keep pace, fuelled by the sheer will to survive.

With every corner turned, Sarah's hope flickered, but she refused to let despair consume her. She led Lily into the narrow hallway, their footsteps echoing with urgency. The monsters were only steps away, their fetid breath sending shivers down Sarah's spine.

But the despair began to fade replaced by hope as they got closer and closer to the front door, but as they got closer Sarah was suddenly hit from behind causing her to stumble before eventually falling over with Lily following her shortly afterwards.

Sarah turned around crawling away from the monsters with Lily.

"Mommy…" Lily whimpered.

Sarah held Lily as tight as she could away from the beasts using her back to protect her daughter.

Sarah sorrowfully sighed as she saw the door, just inches away yet opening that door would be as difficult as crossing a chasm due to the imps surrounding the door laughing manically.

In the final moments before all seemed lost, a short black sword sliced through the door and an imp before slicing the top of the door in half onto another imp before the remainder of the door was kicked off into another.

"Ray!" Lily smiled with rays of hope, suppressing her fear.

"Go find a relief shelter now!" Ray shouted as they ran to him.

With a fierce battle cry, he charged at the oncoming horde of abominations.

The clash of metal against flesh reverberated through the house as Ray fought with a tenacity born of love. He delivered blows with unyielding precision. Each strike buying precious seconds for Sarah and Lily.

Their path now clear, Sarah and Lily ran towards the exit, their bodies fuelled by a desperate surge of energy. Ray fought valiantly, deflecting clawed strikes, and retaliating with unyielding resolve. Sweat mingled with the grime on his brow as he pushed himself beyond his limits, driven by an unbreakable spirit, his movement and reactions getting faster and faster.

As Sarah and Lily reached the threshold of the door, they cast one last look back, witnessing Ray's heroic struggle against the encroaching darkness.

Ray cast a brief look behind him, seeing they were staring at him from the distance.

"Run!" he screamed as he slashed the ceiling.

The sound of the ceiling collapsing blocking their only exit shut which echoed through the house, sealing off their shared horror. In the aftermath of the chaos, Sarah and Lily clung to one another, tears streaming down their faces, their hearts heavy with both gratitude and fear for Ray's safety.

"Will he be okay?" Lily asked.

"He seems to have awakened and managed to get here so yes, he will be fine" Sarah responded before running away like her son instructed.
