Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

The top-tier scientific facility exuded brilliance and innovation, featuring sleek architecture and advanced security. Inside, state-of-the-art laboratories, specialized facilities, and a central testing area hummed with cutting-edge research. Brilliant scientists pushed the boundaries of knowledge using state-of-the-art equipment, while collaborative spaces fostered interdisciplinary discussions. With a focus on security and confidentiality, this facility stood as a hub for ground-breaking experiments, where the brightest minds converged to unravel the universe's mysteries and drive human progress.

As Ray stepped into the impressive scientific facility, Daniel turned to him and said, "Ray, I need to set up the test for your rank analysis. Wait here in the reception hall for a moment."

Ray nodded and looked around, taking in the sight of the bustling facility. It was then that he noticed a group of individuals engaged in lively conversation near the reception desk. Curiosity piqued, he approached them, recognizing them as fellow hunters.

One man with a muscular build and a determined expression turned to Ray and greeted him warmly. "Hey there, new face. Are you here for the rank analysis?"

Ray smiled and nodded. "Yes, I am. I'm Ray. Nice to meet you."

The man extended his hand. "I'm Jake, a newly minted C-rank hunter. Good luck with your assessment. You'll need it."

As Ray shook Jake's hand, a woman with a confident demeanour and piercing gaze interjected, her tone tinged with scepticism. "Luck won't be enough, especially if you're as inexperienced as you look."

Ray raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the challenge in her voice. "And who might you be?"

She crossed her arms, "Name's Jessica, a B-rank hunter." She said with strong pride. "I've seen my fair share of newcomers, and most of them crumble under pressure. I hope you're not one of them."

Ray's determination flickered in his eyes. "Don't worry, Jessica. I've faced Wendigos and survived. I'm not one to crumble."

She chuckled, studying him more intently. "Surviving one encounter doesn't make you a capable hunter. But I suppose we'll see during the analysis."

Just as Ray was about to respond, Daniel returned, his presence commanding attention. "Alright, everyone, please gather around. We're about to begin the rank analysis."

The hunters formed a small circle, their gazes fixed on Daniel as he explained the process. "This speech is for the newbies, during the analysis, we'll be evaluating your physical abilities, combat skills, and aptitude for handling different types and ranks of supernatural creatures. It's a comprehensive assessment that will determine your rank within the association. Each time you take the exam, there is a chance, the foes you fight this time at each level will differ the next time."

Ray's heart quickened with anticipation, and he exchanged a nod with Jake, ready to face the challenge ahead. As the group moved toward the designated testing area, Jessica's words echoed in his mind, fuelling his determination to prove himself.

Inside the testing area, advanced equipment and specialized apparatuses awaited. Each hunter took their place, prepared to showcase their unique skills and abilities. Ray felt a mix of nerves and excitement, knowing that this assessment would determine his path as a hunter.

The test commenced. One by one, every hunter was tested and as time went by Ray realised he would be one of the final people being tested. Hours went by.

"Next, Ray Obsidian!" an official called, guiding him from the spectator area into the arena.

Ray looked around at the white arena with double-glazed double-sided windows on the left where he previously was as well as single sided windows off to the right.

As Ray anxiously waited, a piece of what he thought was wall separated, revealing a man who exuded an aura of intellectual curiosity and unwavering dedication to research.

"Hello Ray, my name is Doctor Luther Francis, and I will be the lead scientist guiding you through these exams," the man introduced himself.

"Hello Dr Francis," Ray greeted, a mix of nervousness and anticipation in his voice.

"Through the speakers above, I will provide instructions and support as you navigate the process. Since you're new, I wanted to personally meet you. I hope you perform well," Dr Francis explained.

"Thank you," Ray replied, grateful for the encouragement.

Dr Francis nodded before turning back around and walking through the white double doors as they closed slowly behind him.

A few moments passed in silence until Ray heard Dr Francis clear his throat, signalling his readiness to speak and guide him through the upcoming challenges.
