Chapter 27 - The weight of a loss.

[Back in the benches]

Fer was out of his mind; he has never seen a trainer using such strategies to defeat a Gym Leader.

Fer is the future Psychic-Type Gym Leader of the Star Region and one of the top trainers of the future crime fighting team: The Elite Squad, he's also a psychic himself like Sabrina.

He should be in his twenties but now has 15 years. We'll touch the time-traveling shenanigans eventually but to be fair, it'll be way beyond the 100 chapters.

Besides him is his sister Rosama the future Grass-Type Gym Leader. To explain the how they're both here, we'll have to build some background first.

Fer won a traveling ticket in a contest on the Star Region, his parents insisted on going with him but he convinced them to let him go on his own. His sister however, didn't do that, she tagged along and went to Kanto with him.

Although the Star Region is currently in a lockdown, it's only for those who are not natives to the region, their inhabitants can come and go however they want but they're closed up to the foreigners.

During his travels Fer learned many things in Kanto, he found different Pokémons, he saw many battles and even won two Gym Badges. But what really got his attention was the news of the Gym Leader of Saffron City: Sabrina.

He wondered how different her powers would be from his own Psychic abilities. Yes, Fer is indeed a Psychic himself, he has telekinesis, small pyrokinesis, and can communicate with Pokémon to a lower level.

But now, he was more focused on something else, it was Kaori. He initially ruled him out as an inexperienced trainer and that he would lose, but now he sees him on a different light.

'He used the effect of the Baton Pass to give Beedrill the Substitute. But even then, the damage from Alakazam wouldn't be enough for Beedrill to defeat him, even with the effectiveness on his side.' Fer.

His eyes began to glow and he saw some details in the arena, more precisely the part where Alakazam was standing.

'Burn marks? But that's impossible, Eevee couldn't have bur-- *Remembers Eevee using Sizzly Slide* Right! A fire-type move that can burn the target. The timing was perfect as well since the burn damage was timed with the Leech Seed drain. That's how Sabrina didn't notice the burn.' Fer.

'This trainer, unusual moves and powerful Pokémons. I'd like to battle him next.' Fer.

"Brother!" Rosama.

Fer was taken out of his train of thought and sighed.

"I know, let's cross the forest in search of your Bulbasaur." Fer spoke uninterested.

"YAY!!" Rosama.

[Back with Kaori]

"And that's what had happened." Kaori.

He had finished explaining Sabrina what happened without skipping any details.

"*SIGHS* To think that there was a move like those. And to think you actually timed it that well, you definitely deserve this Marsh Badge." Sabrina.

Kaori takes the badge and looks at it before smiling.

"Yeah, we've got the Marsh Badge!" Kaori cheers alongside his team.

"Mon!"

"Bee!"

"Veevee!"

"Saur-Saur!"

"Haun!"

But Kaori noticed that one of his teammates wasn't celebrating, it was Fearow, who was quite pissed while stomping on the ground violently.

"And in you go, pissy-pants." Kaori puts Fearow back in his poké ball.

"He'll be quite the troublemaker." Sabrina.

"I know, but I won't give up." Kaori.

"Since you've won the Marsh Badge, I assume you'll go to Fuchsia City for the Soul Badge." Sabrina.

"Yeah, but I better do some training beforehand. I've been too hasty with y traveling and really haven't devoted too much into training or enjoying the journey, just collect the badges and wait for the league." Kaori sheepishly said.

"Well, as l hope your journey goes well." Sabrina.

"Yeah, thanks. Anywhere interesting for me to go?" Kaori.

"Well, there's HopHopHop Town, it has one of the biggest grooming centers in Kanto. I've also heard of a tournament for fighting-type Pokémon, Grand Prix P-1 I think it was called. I think it will be enroute from HopHopHop Town to Gringey City." Sabrina.

"Thank you, I'll keep that in mind when traveling there, thanks, Sabrina." Kaori.

"The pleasure was mine." Sabrina.

Kaori returned his team and waved his hand back before exiting the gym. The first thing he did was run towards his hotel room and check on the system's message. He however, left two people that wanted to meet him.

"Dang it! we missed him." Fer.

"Brother, Bulbasaur!" Rosama.

"Give me a second! I need to speak to that trainer about his strategies." Fer.

"I want my Bulbasaur! I want my Bulbasaur!" Rosama.

Fer let out an exasperated sigh and gave up. He carried Rosama in his back and started walking towards the forest area, praying that there was a Bulbasaur there.

Meanwhile, Kaori is looking at his message from the system.

[Warning: Temporal anomalies detected; the stories are so intertwined together that unexpected factors have begun to appear.]

'Like what exactly?' Kaori.

[The Reborn and Star Region storylines have been rescheduled to much later, around 9 and 7 years from now respectively.]

'Wow, who's caused this? 'Cause I've gotta thank him for that.' Kaori.

[System cannot tell unless met personally with the suspect. This would also explain the Pokémon situation in Cinnabar Island can be a consequence of that.]

"Alright, I'm gonna take a well-deserved rest and tomorrow so will my team." Kaori.

He let his team out for them to enjoy the comfort of the room and get even better rest. Once nightfall fell, everyone was asleep, except for a bird Pokémon that was looking at the sky through the window and left through there.

Despite his big figure, Fearow has experiences from his days as a Spearow about making his body smaller and managing to enter into small spaces.

Fearow flew through the night and reached an open area with a lake. He dived in and attacked, he used several moves underwater before resurfacing and kept going.

He was just venting out his frustrations.

He knew that it wasn't Kaori's fault that he lost the battle, he rushed in mindlessly and allowed himself to be knocked out by Golduck. He knew all that and that's what made him madder.

He didn't go out in blazes and glory like Beedrill almost does or carried the team to victory like Eevee did. He had one simple job, defeat the blue oversized duck and make the yellow cereal enthusiast follow suit.

But no, he had to let himself be affected by some dumbass rage and lost a winnable battle. Now, there's no shame in admitting your shortcomings, but when said shortcomings affect those around you, it pains you.

Makes you feel completely useless and unreliable, that's what Fearow's venting out right now, and he would've kept doing that, if a friend hadn't arrived.

[Mach Punch.] Monferno.

Monferno came out of the forest and dashed at Fearow, who just came out of the water. The Mach Punch connected and threw him towards a tree.

Monferno followed up with a Fire Punch but Fearow Countered with a Wing Attack. The two attacks clash and they take a few steps back before recovering their composure.

[The hell's wrong with you!?] Fearow.

[Calmed enough?] Monferno.

Fearow then realized that Monferno actually followed him and he let his wings rest and sat on the ground. He knew that Monferno wasn't there for a fight.

[What do you want?] Fearow.

[Nothing really, just strolling through the night and then I saw a dumb bird failing to catch a Magikarp.]

[I wasn't fishing!] Fearow.

[How does it feel? To lose for the first time I mean.] Monferno.

Fearow was taken aback a bit due to the subject being brought straight to the point but only looked at the lake with his anger rising.

[It was the worst, if it was a stronger Pokémon I wouldn't have a complain, but Golduck was at a level within my reach to defeat, it's not that I was weaker, I was simply careless.] Fearow.

[Then, why're you mad? Kaori doesn't really give a damn about your loss, it happened but we can't get stagnant over it.] Monferno.

[You don't get it! *Fearow got up and pointed at him with his left wing* All my life I've been living to battle, be it by myself or on a flock I always brought victory no matter the circumstances, but now? A simple mistake got me to faint, Kaori almost loses the battle and it would've been my fault.] Fearow.

[Don't disregard your teammates, we're strong on our own to win our battles. Have some faith.] Monferno.

Fearow sighs and sits back down.

[It's not that, the feeling of letting everyone down, I HATE IT! regardless of you guys not having troubles, it bothers me to add weight on the platter.] Fearow.

[Well, he knew that you'd have a problem with defeat, that's why I'm here.] Monferno.

[Kaori… to be honest, I hated him when we first met.] Fearow.

[Really? I couldn't tell if it was the tackles or pecks, I thought you loved him.] Monferno.

[Piss off! He's a weird trainer.] Fearow.

[How can you tell?] Monferno.

[Heh! I've blacked out countless trainers before I met Kaori. He's easily the strongest.] Fearow.

[Even more than Ash? He was the one that beated your entire flock with just a Pikachu.] Monferno.

[It was raining and that damned rat knew Thunder for some reason!] Fearow.

[See? You've already experienced defeat, why getting so beat up about it now? Eh?] Monferno.

Fearow sweatdropped, his monkey friend did have a point.

[Look, let's just train harder to never lose again, that's what you should aim to do instead of moping and ravaging everything in your path.] Monferno.

[Tsk! Don't think I'll let you surpass me! I'll reach a level beyond yours, no, beyond my whole species!] Fearow declared as he got into a fighting stance.

[Good, I aim to reach such heights as well. Now, let's fight to our hearts content!] Monferno got into his fighting stance.

The two Pokémon stared at each other and rushed. They clashed and a fierce battle began.

(The Next Morning.)

Kaori got up and saw Monferno and Fearow covered in bruises and dirt laying on the hotel room, he also saw that the window was damaged and his other Pokémons were looking at him with an expression of "Really? You didn't notice this?".

"I'm a heavy sleeper." Kaori defended himself.

He prepared breakfast, apologized with the owner of the hotel, who was surprisingly chill about it, and paid for the damages.

"Well, that's one hotel I don't have the courage to enter again." Kaori.

[Sorry.] Fearow/Monferno.

Kaori sighs.

"I'm not mad, just confused and maybe a little ticked. Anyway, we should begin traveling to the next city, I'll be allowing you guys out of your poké balls more often, just so that you can enjoy the journey. Just don't stray off please." Kaori.

Everyone nods.

"Well, I've been looking all over the place for that supposedly prix for fighting-types and it'll be in a few weeks, it's more than enough time for me to go to Lavender Town and get a poké flute." Kaori.

Everyone nods.

"Well, let's go onwards!" Kaori.

The dream team was running towards their next destination, while another silhouette arrived at the city.

"So, this is Saffron City, huh? Good thing that I've already stolen most of Red's badges, I only need the remaining three." Green.

"HEY, SCAMMER!!! COME BACK RIGHT NOW!!!!!!" Red yelled from the horizon.

"Dang it! I hate persistent men, just take the L and live your life." Green.

She dashed towards Saffron in a hurry. While she was running through the streets, she noticed a pair of Rocket Grunts sneaking into Silph Co.

'What're they doing here?' Green.

She lost Red before sneaking into Silph Co. she saw all those Rocket grunts readying themselves for something big, something she couldn't find an answer to.

'I stole the data about Mew in Celadon City with the help of Red and Blue. And then Red and Blue repelled them from Lavender Town when they invaded it a few weeks ago. What could they want from Silph Co.?' Green.

As she started planning her next move, the front door was blasted away open.

*BOOOOOOOOM*

Every Rocket Grunt looked at the entrance and saw Red with Snorlax Behind him.

"I knew I saw some rocket grunts! What are you planning here at Saffron?!" Red.

Green looked at the scene with some awe and slapped herself.

'Why the hell are you making a ruckus, idiot!!!' Green.
