"I hope you all would select your Pokemon wisely. It would be the decision of your life as the Pokemon you choose will be your friend, partner and companion for the rest of your lives. So, don't regret it no matter which one you choose."
In a large room which was decorated with white marbles and complicated machines, an old man wearing a lab coat was speaking.
There was a table with three pokeballs on top of it besides him. He was Professor Oak, the most famous Pokemon professor in the world.
He has an interesting expression on his face, wondering which Pokemon the teenagers in front of him will choose. His gaze scanned through the faces of the three teenagers, eventually resting on a teenager with brown coloured spiky hair.
His expression changed to one of pride and expectations for a second as he looked at his grandson who was finally stepping in the same steps Professor Oak had once walked in.
The spiky haired teenager, Gary Oak, was looking the most confident out of the three as he had already thought about which starter he will choose and how he will go about his journey.
After all, it was something he was dreaming since childhood and now, it was finally coming true.
Next to him, there was a pretty girl with shoulder length brown hair and a nervous smile on her face. Her face was one which would certainly become popular no matter where she goes and from time to time, she would sneak glances at the person next to her.
Her name was Leaf and she was the infamous young beauty of Pallet town.
Her father was one of the assistants of Professor Oak. Coupled with her extremely good grades, she was selected to represent Pallet town as one of its new batch of trainers.
Although Leaf was here partly because of her father, the teenager next to her was completely the opposite.
There was a sense of serenity about him as he focused on Professor Oak in front of him. Unlike Leaf or Gary, he was neither nervous nor too confident. It was like he had gone through the choosing ceremony several times in the past.
And it wasn't wrong either…
'It's finally happening and this time, it's not a game.'
Arthur thought to himself as he blinked his deep, black eyes.
He had chosen several different starter Pokemon in his past life, but those were all in games and it was never in real life. After all, he lived in a world deprived of Pokemon.
Pokemon was just a video game franchise in his world which had spread to animation later, eventually becoming a global phenomenon. It was a world of fantasy which he had never thought can be real.
'All this still feels like a novel.'
Arthur thought back to his death in his past life. He was stabbed while protecting his girlfriend from a stalker and after two days of being in a coma, he had died.
He had thought that he would cease to exist, but the next time he had opened his eyes, he realised he had become a baby whose name was Arthur Blade.
It was not even the most shocking thing as the next thing he had seen was a Pokemon battle on the television and it was not anime this time. It was all real and flesh.
Arthur was too excited realising this that he had spoiled his diapers. (Being a baby is a painful experience if one had the mind of an adult.)
Anyway, starting from his shameful days of being a toddler, Arthur began finding more about the Pokemon world he was in. After all, he didn't know which dimension he was in and what year it was.
There were two main dimensions in the Pokemon world - The video games and the anime.
There were several protagonists in the video games one, but in the anime timeline, there was only one - Ash Ketchum. Arthur had thought that he was most probably in the anime timeline, but all his predictions and theories were soon discarded.
By the time he grew to be 5, his mom finally allowed him access to the internet from which he was able to get a lot of insight into the world he was in and to his surprise, it was completely different than he had imagined.
He was in a separate timeline than the two main ones and this Pokemon world was completely different.
First of all, people can't use or train Pokemon without a trainer license and it was illegal which means that there were no kids using Pokemon.
And you also can't go on a Pokemon journey at 10.
One needs to at least be 18 to be eligible to own a Pokemon and train it. At first, Arthur had thought that this was strange, but it had soon made sense.
He was not in an anime. He was in the real world and anime logic obviously won't work here. There would be no sane parent sending 10 year olds to train monsters that can spew out fire.
So all this made sense.
It seemed like the silly plot holes of Pokemon have been fixed to make it more like a real world. Arthur liked it, but it also meant that his anime and video game logic won't work.
That's why, Arthur started reading more about the world and the trainers.
The world was divided into regions and there was a Pokemon world alliance (PWA) residing in the middle, acting like the UN of his past life but with more importance.
All the leagues were conducted by them and it was the highest authority in the world of Pokemon.
Another thing that was different was that not many people had Pokemon.
It was not easy for an ordinary person to get his or her hands on a Pokemon. As they were difficult to tame, most people didn't have their personal Pokemon and only selected trainers would receive starter Pokemons.
The only choice for them was to catch a weak bug type that's easy to tame or join a job that will grant them Pokemon (Police, fire fighters, Pokemon rangers etc).
As Arthur never wanted to join the police and he was not interested in taming bugs, he had studied hard to get selected as one of the trainers who will receive a starter.
Every person was required to have education till high school and throughout his school years, he had always stayed at the top, even beating Gary.
He had even done a part time job at Professor Oak's lab to impress him.
All this has impressed the Professor who had finally recommended him to be one of the four people to get a starter this year.
'I will become the best trainer in the world!'
Arthur thought as he reminded himself of his dream again.
At the same time, Professor Oak stopped talking about the complexities of becoming a trainer and how they should treat their Pokemon like a friend, not a weapon.
"I will now reveal the three starter Pokemon that you three can choose from."
He gestured to his assistants to reveal the three Kanto starters and they all tapped on the pokeballs in the center of the room.
With a red light, the pokeballs finally opened, revealing Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander.
"Now, which one will you choose?"
Professor Oak asked as he looked at them.
