After departing from Saffron City, Kaori's Pokédex informed him about the limit of Pokémon being exceeded and requested a Pokémon to be sent back to Prof. Oak's lab. Kaori did the transaction mid-way while deciding to leave Abra with Prof. Oak.
In this world, 6 Pokémon is the recommended limit for trainers, even Champion class acknowledge this rule due to due efficient it is; however, some trainers are talented enough to carry more than the permitted limit.
There are certain conditions that will be listed below, it need to be noted that you only need one of those conditions to apply for the extension of how many Pokémon you can carry, I'm just listing which conditions are:
1. Champion of regional type of League Tournament sponsored by the League's High-command, or at the very least reach the top 5.
2. Be a renowned Pokémon researcher or have aided one in their research.
3. Defeat 8 Gym Leaders from 3 different regions or more with different team members, reusing past team members does not count.
4. Make great contributions to the security of the region.
5. Have a Legendary Pokémon.
These exceptions are the only way to have your capacity expanded. Of course, the combats will still be a regular 6vs6 standard battle regardless of how many Pokémon you have.
Now, since Kaori is technically Prof. Oak's assistant, he can ask him to allow him an extension of his team at least minimum of 1 more Pokémon. Now, Kaori can't expand his capacity because he needs Prof. Oak's help.
As the why didn't he did it earlier? There is some dumb paperwork that needs to be filled beforehand that works like a permission to let you carry more than six Pokémon, the professor said it would be done by the time they arrive at Lavender, the paperwork began since the beginning of his journey.
After Sending Abra, whom he barely just met, he noticed Red walking back with a bicycle.
"You have a bike?" Kaori.
"Don't you? It's way easier than walking around. Remember Gary with his car?" Red.
"I swear to Arceus I have no idea who in his right or deranged mind would give a ten-year-old a driver's license." Kaori.
"Simple, the same person that made a car big enough for a ten-year-old to drive." Red.
"Fair enough." Kaori.
"Everyone's ready?" Fer.
"Yep, let's go." Kaori.
"I wanna ride the bicycle!" Rosama.
"No." Fer.
"It's ok, I can carry her on the basket. She does have a helmet, right?" Red.
"Let her without one, maybe a good hit will finally fix that damaged brain of hers." Fer.
Rosama was mad and literally bit Fer on the leg, making him shriek in pain. Kaori and Red wasted a good 10 minutes separating the brothers and then buying Rosama a helmet before they finally departed.
While walking, except a certain someone with a bike, Kaori, Fer, Red and Rosama, now hereby referred in general as 'the gang', were talking about their past experiences.
"So, Poli was swimming against the current to save my life when BAM! Gyarados appears and tries to bite him off." Red spoke while carrying Rosama in his bike.
"Wow… and what happened next?" Rosama.
"Poli saw the Water Stone that Kaori gave me earlier and then evolved into Poliwrath! With the help of some punches, he defeated Gyarados and took me to the surface." Red.
"Why didn't you used the stone before?" Kaori.
"I wanted Poli to perfect his Bubble Beam attack since I heard that Poliwrath would have a harder time training said move." Red.
'Ah yes, in generation 1 Poliwhirl could learn Bubble Beam but Poliwrath couldn't.' Kaori thought.
"So where was I? Ah, yes! In the middle of the ocean… Poli took me to the surface and I was grasping for air as the currents were too strong, but that's when Poli has an idea! Taking a free poké ball, he catches Gyarados, whom I nicknamed Gyara, and 'convinced' him to carry me." Red.
'This story gets better considering that game Red only speaks in dots.' Kaori thought.
"See, Rosa? This is why I always carry a psychic type that knows Teleport." Fer.
"And what about you, Kaori?" Rosama.
"Well, I helped the civilians escape by making makeshifts boats with Beedrill's string and some scrap, yes, it was floatable enough." Kaori.
"Wow, so selfless and heroic!" Rosama.
'And then I took everything worthy of money and usable items and left. I think it's better if I skip that part.' Kaori.
"Have you heard from Blue, Ash or Gary?" Red.
"Funny you ask about that. I met Blue on my way here and had a bit of a meeting with Ash and his group." Kaori.
"Right, he's traveling with Brock and Misty." Red.
"I haven't heard anything about Gary though, changing the subject, you spoke of a scammer, her name wouldn't be Green by any chance?" Kaori.
Red got surprised.
"YES! She's the scammer! How do you know her?!" Red.
"Relax, Red. I know her because she's the one I gave the reserve Squirtle to." Kaori.
Red was shocked while Fer found it curious to hear about the water starter of Kanto.
"Why?! Do you have any idea of how many people she's scammed?!" Red.
"I didn't peg her as a bad person, I simply found it curious to say the least. Besides, there's something 'off' about her. You better keep that in mind and not be so impulsive next time you see her." Kaori.
"Well, you should really give her an earful." Red.
"Oh, I plan too. I won't force her to give you back your stuff though." Kaori.
"Why?!" Red.
"S. S. Anne." Kaori.
Red sweatdropped and whistled faking unawareness.
While they were walking, a group of Mankey appeared and began to growl menacingly.
"Hey, look! Mankeys." Red whipped out his Pokédex.
{Mankey, a fighting-type primate Pokémon. It is noted for its extraordinary footwork and super powerful fists. Although Mankey is usually calm, it has a very bad temper.} Dex.
"It says that but… I think they want to battle us." Red.
"Stand back, Rosama." Fer.
"Yes!" Rosama hid behind Fer's legs.
The Mankeys lunged at the three trainers and they sent Poliwrath, Kadabra and Monferno.
"Submission!" Red.
"Psywave." Fer.
"Fury Swipes!" Kaori.
Poliwrath grabbed a Mankey and threw him against the floor and got him on a lock. Kadabra shot a beam of psychic energy at a Mankey, making him faint. Monferno's hands glowed like claws and he slashed multiple Mankeys, making them faint.
The Mankeys scattered and left in a hurry.
"Don't you think it was too easy?" Red.
"Indeed, it felt as if they were afraid and were more focused on escaping." Fer.
"Maybe we should ask them?" Kaori.
He walked towards one of the remaining Mankeys and nudge him a little, Mankey recovered its conscience and tried to attack Kaori but he dodged it. Mankey tried to escape but one of his legs was injured.
Kaori sighed and grabbed the small primate while trying to not get hit.
"Look, I know we kinda beat you up but it was all in self-defense. You attacked us first and didn't even apologize so, tell me, what's going on here?" Kaori.
Mankey didn't answer but instead grunted. Kaori, seeing his approach was useless, decided to leave the negotiations matter into the hands of Monferno.
[Alright you undersized primate with lower-than-average IQ. Tell me what's going on with your crap and we'll help you out of the goodness in our hearts, or don't and we'll leave you to suffer. Either way I'm not bothered by it.] Monferno.
Mankey remained still as he weighed his options before sighing.
[I'll talk.] Mankey.
A few moments later, the group was now sitting under a tree as they interrogated Mankey.
"Wait, I'm good translating human thoughts, but Pokémon are more complex." Fer.
"Don't worry about it, Monferno will tell me everything." Kaori.
"You understand him?" Red.
"I taught him Sign Language. Not knowing what they want is kind of annoying so, I taught him this in case of anything." Kaori.
"Wow." Red/Fer/Rosama said impressed.
"Alright, this is the gist. Mankey talks, Monferno translates and I talk. Keep that in mind to ask her any question." Kaori.
"Monferno!" Monferno made a sign.
"Sorry, ask HIM any question." Kaori.
The three nodded and Kaori began.
(A/N: In case you don't understand, let me be clear. Mankey speaks, Monferno do the signs and Kaori speaks to the other 3. So, be easy, Mankey's words will be read as Kaori's translation. Meaning that it'll appear as if Mankey was talking human. Clear enough? Good.)
"What happened and why where you and your friends so… startled?" Kaori.
"It happened some nights ago. We were enjoying a nice morning eating berries when an explosion was heard at the distance." Mankey.
"An explosion?" Red.
"Yes, someone with a red scarf came along looking for something, I don't know what it was but he seemed mad when he didn't find it." Mankey.
"Any idea what it could've been?" Fer.
"It was some sort of rock or something, he got mad each time he found a rock and yelled 'that's not it'. I really didn't get it." Mankey.
"What does that have to do with you escaping?" Red.
"He occupied the whole area where most berry trees grow. We tried taking the berries several times but they intervened, we starved for days until they finished whatever they were doing and said they would leave." Mankey.
Mankey's expression darkened.
"That's when things got really out of hand." Mankey.
"What do you mean?" Rosama.
"That guy was so mad that decided to screw with us by leaving a dangerous Pokémon around the area. The Pokémon was gluttonous so he didn't want to share the berries." Mankey.
"What kind of Pokémon was it?" Fer.
"I never seen a Pokémon like that before. It was black with blue and red tones, levitated and also has three heads..." Mankey said but Kaori's voice was stopping.
"What's wrong?" Red.
"I hope I'm wrong, but I think I know who this Pokémon is." Kaori.
"Keep translating, we'll focus on it later." Fer.
"Ok, but just as heads up, I hope your psychic types know Focus Blast." Kaori.
"After the beast ate all the berries, it began to hunt us. The Primeapes tried to defeat him but to no avail." Mankey.
"Any moves he used?" Red.
"He used only Flamethrower and Dragon Pulse." Mankey.
"How did you escape?" Fer.
"My group was the last to survive in the area, that's when something unexpected happened. Our boss grew bigger and became purple as he battled the beast." Mankey.
'Really?! I guess Kanto's wildlife isn't as dangerous as other regions.' Kaori thought.
"What happened then?" Fer.
"I don't know, we were running for our lives, I don't know how long we ran but we made it here. Out of fear we attacked you, sorry." Mankey.
"Aww, don't worry Mankey, we forgive you." Rosama patted Mankey.
"Any thought?" Fer asked Kaori.
"If what Mankey said is true, we've got a big problem here." Kaori.
"How big?" Red.
"It may destroy Kanto's ecosystem." Kaori.
"What Pokémon could cause this?" Fer.
"Only one of the most aggressive Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon in the whole world, Hydreigon." Kaori.
Fer and Rosama tense up, having heard from the Dragon-Type from their parents.
"What's that?" Red asked.
"Here, good thing Oak gave me a National Dex." Kaori took out his Pokédex and scrolled a little.
{Hydreigon, the Ravenous Pokémon. It's the evolution of Zweilous, Hydreigon attacks anything in sight with the help of his three heads and devours everything.} Dex.
"He looks quite tough." Red.
"Mankey, is this the beast?" Kaori showed his Dex to Mankey.
Mankey immediately hid behind Monferno with great fear, confirming Kaori's suspicion.
"We have to take that Hydreigon out of here." Kaori.
"Agreed, even in our region, they were so powerful that it required half of the staff from the league to drive them into the Victory Road." Fer.
"I'm scared of the bad dragon." Rosama.
"Alright! Where is it, Mankey?" Red.
Mankey began to shake his head, even without translations it was clear that he wasn't going back.
*BOOOOOM *RRRRAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWRRRRRR*
An explosion and roar were heard in the distance within the forest. Kaori and Red rushed into it without a second thought, with Fer following after leaving Kadabra with Rosama and Mankey.
"Anything about this Pokémon, Kaori?" Red.
"Dark/Dragon type, special attacker but with decent physical coverage. Immune to Ground-Type moves, times four weak to Fairy but can learn Flash Cannon." Kaori.
"Damm! Only my Hypno has Focus Blast, and Metagross has Brick Break." Fer.
"Poli has fighting moves alongside Lax, but other than them, ah! yes, Gyara has Ice Fang as well." Red.
"Don't think this'll be easy, wild Hydreigons never hold back. Every attack will be filled with killing intent at our Pokémons. What we need is a fairy move, which luckily, I have." Kaori.
"Alright, let's go!!!" Red increased his speed.
They ran for some more minutes until they arrived at the area where the explosion took place.
Two Pokémon were standing while being heavily injured. The first was a the suspected Hydreigon and the other was a big purple primate-looking Pokémon that looked oddly like an Primeape.
"Seems like their battle is about to end." Fer.
"I don't think so." Kaori looked at Hydreigon closely.
Small white feathers surrounded Hydreigon as his wounds began to heal, it was the move Roost. The Primeape? Immediately lunged at Hydreigon with his punch glowing orange to deliver a powerful attack.
Unfortunately for him, Hydreigon finished healing and bit his hand with his left head, he grabbed his other hand with his right head and began to charge a powerful Draco Meteor.
The Primeape? Couldn't move and was struggling to no avail until.
"Flamethrower/Ice Beam/Focus Blast!"
Three powerful attacks flew towards Hydreigon and pushed his head aside, making him shoot the Draco Meteor elsewhere.
The Primeape? Seized the opportunity and delivered a kick to Hydreigon's chin and pushed himself backwards.
Red, Fer and Kaori rushed to the scene and took their battle positions.
"Fer, take care of the Primeape." Red.
"We'll deal with Hydreigon." Kaori.
"No! You'll need as much help as you can!" Fer.
"With Primeape here, we won't be able to fight at our best." Red.
"Teleport back to Kadabra and heal him with items." Kaori.
"Dammit, guys!" Fer.
Fer took Metagross out and looked at him.
"Help them with the battle." Fer.
"META!!!!!"
Metagross nodded.
"We'll be back once Primeape is healed." Fer spoke while Hypno walked towards them.
"Alright. Trust us in this." Red gave him a thumbs up.
"Also, you two realize that's not a Primeape, right?" Kaori.
"What?" Red/Fer.
Hypno grabbed Fer and Primeape? And left the area.
"I'll explain later, prepare yourself." Kaori.
Red took himself out of the daze and focused on Hydreigon, whom saying was pissed, was an understatement.
*WRRRRWWWAAAAAAAGHGHHHHHHHH*
