Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: The Fight to Leave a Mark

"Good day to you young Edil, I see you have willingly accepted the challenge made by young Fray?"

Neptune asked despondent, without the joy he was expressing earlier.

"Yes, vice principal Neptune" Edil saluted.

"Hmmm I see, well then I will proceed to inform you all of the rules." Though he said it with a straight face, to Edil he appeared to have smirked at end of his words.

Walking to the middle of the stadium, Neptune lifted his hand and a interface appeared and in which by pressing upon it, the flood in front him opened and up came a display case. The walls had a assortment of basic close combat weapons.

"You'll get to choose your weapons or if you carry your own, you may use it unless it is above a certain grade."

"Quick question sir?" Edil interrupted.

"Yes?" Replied the vice principal with slight annoyance.

"Does that mean we can use anything we want." Asked the boy to confirm the rules.

"I will rephrase, anything is at your disposal. Now young Edil please don't interrupt any longer, you may ask after I am done."

"Yes sir!" He again saluted though this time with exaggeration.

A vein appeared on the forehead of the vice principal but quickly disappeared, he gave Fray a look and proceeded to explain the rules.

("Well, I'm pretty sure I will be getting an extra beating ha?")

"Now then while this match will be of close combat, you are allowed to use any sort of ability to your advantage.

("Yeah, that's definitely advantageous to me alright.") sarcastically replied Edil innerly, further pushing the narrative of unfairness and disrespect.

"Attacks to vulnerable areas are prohibited, and so are maiming. Finally killing or attempt leaves to immediate expulsion, possibly instigating a trial conducted by the royal family." Concluded Neptune.

"Are we all clear?" He questioned.

"" Yes sir!"" The two boys replied.

"You are allowed 5 minutes to prep, now proceed." After saying so he walked to the side allowing them to explore their selection, more specifically Edil.

Having made up his mind Edil walked up to a typical double edge sword and inspected it.

The material is what you can call first rate without substance. Whoever made this clearly only cared for mass production, it didn't even have an edge.

Though not like it mattered, a sword or any of the weapons on display is not his main weapon of choice. It is rather a supplement.

Walking back to his position, Edil now had time to calm his nerves and observe his opponent. Due to the rapid chaos that brought him to this situation, it wasn't of concern.

Fray Jasper can only be described as handsome, unlike his relative he had a face that matched his well-defined body.

With his white hair and blue eyes with a scar under his left eye running down his cheek, only enhanced his looks.

As grows older, he will break many hearts.

The only flaw he saw on him was that annoying smirk he had on his face. He was completely disregarding him and had no doubt in his victory. All it took was one look from him.

("Well, I don't blame him.") Edil thought self depreciatingly.

. . . .

On the opposing sides of the stadium, the two children faced each other several steps apart. The child with purple hair and red eyes was welding a double-edged sword with two hands, tense and ready to fight.

While the child with white hair and blue eyes was casually standing with his tachi on his shoulder, welding it with one hand.

The vice principal and referee of the match stood in the middle and looked at the two contestants, seeing that they were ready.

He raised his arm up and brought it down signifying the beginning of the match. He disappeared immediately allowing no obstacles for the incoming fight.

"I FORFE-"The purple hair boy, Edil before can yell his surrender, he was interrupted.

With no time to spare, Fray took off. In Edil's perspective he vanished and was instantaneously confronted with a slash of a sword. His eyes couldn't follow his opponent's movement and only due to his senses was he able to react in time.

He was able to successfully intercept the blow, but the unexpected impact nearly made him stubble and lose his footing.

Before he could get his bearings, he was furthered greeted with consecutive slashes, each with the same amount of strength. With every block resulting in him being pushed back.

After the fifth slash, his senses picked up a threat. Instinctively he responded barely blocking the kick aimed at his stomach with his hand. He was sent flying, needing to roll to right himself.

Expecting an attack, he hastily got into the defensive stance but all he was met with was Fray standing at the same spot giving him an amused stare.

"I'm surprised you were able to handle all of that, and hear I thought you were just worthless shut-in. Looks like I was wrong thinking could end this instantly." He said amusedly perplexed, finding it all enjoyable.

Seeing Edil not answering back, Fray just shrugged and continued to speak to the mute.

"Well, all I have to do is try harder, just a little." He said with a smirk.

Disappearing and reappearing in front of the other child and attacking with more ferocity.

With the second round, the attacks have not only grown with force but with velocity as well.

The new pace not only send Edil rapidly scrabbling to block each attack, but he was barely able to keep an even footing. Each attack nearly making his knee buckle to mitigate the force transmitted through the sword's impact.

Occasionally in this fast-paced combat, Edil was met with unexpected kicks and strikes which he barely managed intercepting, leaving bruises upon the limbs he used to block the strikes with. Failing to negate the damage appropriately.

He was growing fatigue and accumulating injuries, impeding him to respond accurately to each attack. Finally, he couldn't stop a kick from landing at his ribs. To nullify the attack, he allowed himself to follow along, sending him flying.

The force to overwhelming, he coughed blood and impacted the floor. Making him roll for a couple of feet.

The impact causing the packet he had attached to his jacket to rip open while rolling, scattering several metal balls everywhere. Each ball being of the same size.

Finding the balls as nothing but decoration, Fray just spectated Edil struggling to stand.

All this happening within a short three minutes, left the crowd intoxicated. Silently specating the fight between the two soon to be students. They were surprised that Edil was able to endure for so long, but they also recognized that Fray was just toying with him. They were in awe with his capabilities despite his age and couldn't imagine his growth once he was an adult.

Finally up Edil didn't have enough time to breath and could barely stop a strike with his sword. Locking swords against his opponent. Struggling to prevent the edge of the sword in cutting his neck.

"Looks like this is all you have, this was enjoyable. But I will have to end this. Don't take it the wrong way I'm just following orders, blame it on your ancestors."

Fray by applying further strength parried away the sword in Edil's hands, moving it to side and leaving Edil open.

He lifted his arm welding the taichi and brought it down with immense pressure. A move to not only end the battle but to leave significant to long lasting damage.

The audience gasped in surprise.

The twins rose to their feet in protest too far to interfere.

Helena can only close her eyes in fear to see the outcome.

But only Lilith was seen smiling.

("Looks like they were planning on making me a cripple, well I'm not going to hold back my punches neither!") Exclaiming Edil lifted his head, fire burning in eyes.

As the sword was approaching him, one of the metal balls located at the back of Fray suddenly flew towards him at high speeds.

*BOOOOM*

Hearing the unexpected eruption and sensing the danger, Fray instantly stopped his swing and attempted to use the sword to intercept the projectile.

As the sword and ball virtually met, the ball swirled spontaneously. The sword missing and the ball heading towards his face.

With no time to react, Fray used his forearm to block while releasing his holy aura. A deterrent to special abilities and can be used as a shield. Expecting the ball to stop in its tracks, or slow down.

What he was met with however was a ball hitting his arm. Feeling the bones cracking under the force, nearly fracturing. Causing immense pain.

"YOU!" Enraged he attempted to take his frustrations out upon the culprit and was greeted with a sword heading towards his face.

As the other was distracted, Edil used all his strength to roll to the side and strike with his sword.

Instinctively, the boy genius simply utilized his footwork and moved inches away from the sword striking the bridge of his nose.

Sneering upon seeing the boy's last-ditch effort to fail and leaving him open for a devasting blow.

The heir of the Jasper family got ready to fully commit to crippling Edil, a nobody to injure him. Readying to strike hm with all his strength.

However, something caught his eye, a ball was attached to the tip of the sword. His senses flaring upon recognizing it and it only worsened when he saw his opponent smirking.

"bang" Edil said.

*BOOOOOM*

Was all the audience heard.
