Chapter 15 - CHAPTER 15

But I didn't back down. I held his gaze, determined to make my point. As the seconds ticked by, the tension in the room grew thicker. I could feel the eyes of everyone in the room on me, waiting for me to say something else.

But I didn't know what else to say. I had spoken my mind, and now it was up to the others to react.

Finally, the man across from me spoke. "And why do you think that?" he asked, his voice low and measured. I took a deep breath, gathering my thoughts.

"Well," I began, "he seemed so... intense. Like he was holding back a lot of anger. And then, when he finally let it out, it was like a storm had been unleashed. It was scary, but also kind of... exhilarating." As I spoke, I could feel the others in the room nodding in agreement.

They had all felt the same way, but I was the only one brave enough to speak up. And in that moment, I felt a sense of pride and confidence that I had never felt before.

As I spoke, his gaze shifted towards me, his expression unimpressed by my words. Kai's scowl deepened as he blurted out, "I think I might have to ring your father." The words hung in the air between us, heavy with tension. I

I could feel my heart racing as I tried to gauge his reaction. Would he call my father? What would he say? I swallowed hard, feeling a knot form in my stomach. This was not the outcome I had hoped for.

My heart skipped a beat when I heard the familiar name escape from the stranger's lips. It was my father's name - Kai. I couldn't believe it. My mind raced as I tried to process what was happening.

Was it him? After all these years? I stood there frozen, unable to move or speak. The stranger looked at me with a curious expression, but I couldn't respond.

All I could think about was my father and the memories that flooded my mind at the sound of his name.

Denice's eyes narrowed as she snapped at her husband, her lips curling into a scowl. She hesitated for a moment, considering her options.

Should she take the risk and ask him? The thought of rejection made her heart race, but the possibility of a positive response filled her with hope.

She took a deep breath and made her decision. "Maybe I should ask him," she whispered to herself, determined to take control of her fate.

"How did he manage to make you keep your mouth shut?" Kai scolded, his lips curling into a proud smirk. She stood there, frozen, her mind racing as she tried to understand what had happened. She couldn't believe that she had been accused of being rude.

Her heart was pounding in her chest as she struggled to find the right words. She didn't reply, not because she didn't want to, but because she was in shock.

She had never been accused of being rude before and didn't think she had said anything that could be construed as such.

She felt a knot forming in her stomach as she waited for the other person to speak again.

As we stood there in silence, we suddenly became aware of hushed voices emanating from the hallway.

Our hearts raced as we strained to make out the words being spoken. Who could it be? What were they discussing? We held our breath, waiting for the conversation to come closer.

Damian's deep voice echoed through the hallway, commanding me to ascend the stairs. I hesitated momentarily, unsure of what awaited me on the upper level of the house.

But the urgency in his tone left me no choice but to obey. With a heavy heart, I made my way up the steps, my footsteps echoing in the space.

Damian looked at her sternly, his piercing gaze making her feel small and insignificant.

"You know what you have to do," he said, his voice low and commanding.

She nodded, her heart racing with fear and anticipation. "Of course, Damian," she replied obediently, her voice barely above a whisper.

He gave her a curt nod before turning on his heel and striding away, leaving her alone with her thoughts.

She knew she had no choice but to follow his orders, no matter how difficult or dangerous.

She was bound to him, body and soul, and she would do anything to please him. She couldn't help but wonder as she caught sight of the woman walking towards him.

Was this just another one of his many conquests? The thought made her stomach churn with a mix of jealousy and disgust.

She tried to push the feeling aside and focus on the task, but her mind kept reverting to the woman and what she represented. Would she ever be enough for him, or would he always be searching for something more? Kai couldn't help but roll his eyes as Denice sighed deeply.

He had grown accustomed to her dramatics, but they still irritated him. He turned his attention back to the book he was reading, trying to ignore her presence.

However, her heavy breathing and restless movements made it impossible for him to concentrate.

He let out a frustrated sigh and closed the book, giving her his full attention. As Kai commented, my heart skipped a beat, and my eyes widened in surprise. I quickly composed myself, making sure to hide my reaction from both Denice and Kai.

She sat alone in her living room, staring blankly at the wall. The words echoed in her mind, haunting her. "My son and husband have no respect for women." It was a truth she had been avoiding for far too long.

She had always made excuses for their behavior, telling herself they didn't mean it or were joking.

But the reality was that they had a deep-seated disrespect for women that she couldn't ignore any longer. She thought back to the countless times she had heard them make crude jokes or belittle women in their lives.

She had tried to speak up and tell them it wasn't okay, but they had always brushed her off. It was as if they didn't even hear her.

As she sat there, lost in thought, she realized she couldn't continue living like this. She couldn't raise her son to be like his father, to think it was acceptable to treat women disrespectfully.

And she couldn't continue to be with a man who didn't value her as an equal. With a heavy heart, she made a decision. It was time to stand up for herself and all the women who had been belittled and disrespected by men like her husband and son. It was time to make a change.

Denice gazed down at her plate, her appetite wholly gone. She shook her head slowly, a look of disappointment etched on her face.

The food remained untouched as if it held no appeal to her at all. Kai stepped forward, his eyes blazing with fierce protectiveness.

"Ahhh, leaves him alone," he said firmly, his voice brooking no argument.

"He's just blowing off steam. He's a good kid, and he does have respect for women." His words hung in the air, challenging anyone questioning his son's character.

For once, Kai stood up for his child and would not back down. Kai's comment hung in the air, met with silence from the rest of the group.

He chuckled to himself, seemingly entertained by his joke. The others, however, remained stoic, their expressions unreadable. It was as if they were waiting for something more, something that Kai wasn't providing.

Despite the lack of response, Kai continued to grin, enjoying the moment. It was almost as if he was trying to prove something, to show that he was in control. But the silence persisted, and Kai's smile eventually faded.

He realized that his attempt at humor had fallen flat and that he was the only one laughing. Feeling embarrassed, Kai cleared his throat and shifted his weight from one foot to the other.

He tried to think of something else to say to break the tension. But the moment had passed, and the group had moved on. Kai was left standing there, feeling foolish and alone.

As she gazed at Damian, she couldn't help but feel a sense of resignation wash over her. She knew better than to expect him to drop everything and aid her. After all, he had his own life and priorities to attend to.

No, disappointment wasn't the emotion that coursed through her veins. It was something more akin to acceptance.
