Chapter 20 - CHAPTER 20

Olivia nudged me, a sly smile playing on her lips. "He likes you," she whispered conspiratorially, "and he's handsome." I felt my cheeks flush at her words, my heart beating faster.

I glanced at him across the room, watching him laugh with his friends. Was it possible that he could be interested in me? I couldn't deny that I found him attractive, with his chiseled jawline and piercing blue eyes.

But I was hesitant to believe Olivia's words. What if she was mistaken? What if he was just being friendly? I couldn't bear getting my hopes up, only to be disappointed. But as I watched him make his way towards me, a smile on his lips, I couldn't help but wonder if maybe, just maybe, Olivia was right.

As I looked into his eyes, I knew that he wouldn't be able to handle my lifestyle. The thought of everyday life, with a white picket fence and a 9-5 job, quickly faded away. I had grown accustomed to my life's fast-paced, unpredictable nature, and I couldn't imagine giving it up for anyone.

I could see the disappointment in his eyes, but I knew I had to be honest with him. I couldn't pretend to be someone I wasn't just to make him happy. As much as I wanted to be with him, I knew it wouldn't work out in the long run.

I took a deep breath and spoke words I knew would break his heart. "I'm sorry, but I don't think this will work out. You deserve someone who can give you the kind of life you want, and I can't do that." He nodded, his eyes downcast.

I could tell he was trying to be strong, but I could see the pain in his eyes. I wanted to reach out and comfort him, but I knew it would only worsen things.

As I walked away, I couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness. I had let go of someone who could have been great for me, but I knew it was for the best.

I couldn't change who I was or ask him to change who he was, either. It was better to let go now than to drag things out and hurt each other even more. Olivia's pout was hard to resist as she begged me to give him a chance.

"You can't keep shutting every guy down just because you're afraid of getting hurt," she said, her voice laced with concern. "Please, try with him. For me." I sighed, knowing she was right.

I had been hurt before, and the thought of opening up to someone again was terrifying. But Olivia was my best friend, and I trusted her judgment.

Maybe it was time to retake a chance on love.

"Fine," I said with a shake of my head and a grin. The question kept nagging as she sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the blank wall before her.

If Damian, her boyfriend of two years, was allowed to see other girls, why couldn't she see other guys? It didn't seem fair.

She couldn't shake the frustration and resentment building up inside her for weeks. She loved Damian but couldn't help but wonder if he loved her as much as she loved him.

The thought of him being with someone else made her stomach turn, but at the same time, she couldn't ignore the fact that she wanted to explore her options too.

She knew she had to talk to him about it, but the fear of what he might say or do kept her from bringing it up. She sighed and lay back on her bed, closing her eyes and trying to push the thoughts out of her mind...

Olivia materialized beside them as the group made their way to the field, her voice barely above a whisper.

" I'm coming with you, of course," she said, "I have to watch my baby play." It was as if she had been there all along, a ghostly presence that had suddenly taken form.

The others didn't notice, but Olivia was used to being overlooked. She followed them silently, her eyes fixed on the field ahead. Sitting across from her friend, she couldn't help but gush about her boyfriend, Ryder.

His name alone sent shivers down her spine and a smile to her lips. She spoke of his charming personality, infectious laugh, and how he made her feel like the only girl in the world.

Her friend listened intently, captivated by the love and adoration in her voice. It was clear that Ryder held a special place in her heart, and she couldn't wait to see where their relationship would take them.

As we walked through the school doors, I couldn't help but feel grateful for your unwavering support. You playfully teased her, making her laugh and easing any nerves she may have had. It was a small gesture, but it meant the world to her.

As we made our way to the bleachers, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement.

The sun shone down on us, casting a warm glow over the stadium. We found a spot to sit and settled in, taking in the sights and sounds around us.

The smell of popcorn and hot dogs wafted through the air, and the crowd's chatter filled our ears. It was the perfect day to watch a game.

We sat there for hours, cheering on our team and soaking up the atmosphere.

As the sun set, we reluctantly returned home, looking forward to the next game. Aye, Diaz," Ryder said with a smirk as he leaned in to give Olivia a quick peck on the lips. "I heard you're here for Blake.

Nonchalantly, I shrugged and replied, "Sure, I'll come to watch him play." Ryder's lips curled into a sly smirk as he raised his eyebrow, observing the person before him. "He's very excited," he remarked, his tone dripping with amusement.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes and let out a slight snicker. "Good luck, baby," Olivia yelled, her voice echoing through the empty stadium.

The wind whipped through her hair as she watched her partner take his place on the field. She couldn't help but feel a sense of pride as she watched him, knowing how hard he had worked to get to this moment.

As the game began, Olivia held her breath, her eyes fixed on the field. She knew that anything could happen in the next few hours, and she was determined to be there for her partner every step of the way.

Ryder's heart raced as he jogged back onto the field, his eyes fixed on her. He couldn't resist blowing her a kiss, a small gesture to show affection.

She smiled back at him, her eyes sparkling in the sunlight. Ryder felt a surge of happiness washes over him, knowing she was there to support him.

He took a deep breath and focused on the game ahead, determined to make her proud. The mere sight of them often induced a nauseating sensation within me.

Halfway through the day, I found myself engaged in conversation with Olivia. He turned around to see her standing there, her eyes searching his face for any sign of emotion.

"You came?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. She nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips.

It had been months since they had last seen each other, yet their connection was still as strong as ever.
