Chereads / The Target of Destiny / Chapter 22 - CHAPTER 22

Chapter 22 - CHAPTER 22

There was a long, tense silence as she processed his words. Finally, she spoke. "Fine," she said, her voice cold and distant. "If that's what you want." And with that, she turned on her heel and walked out of the room, leaving him alone with his thoughts.

Damian's voice boomed across the bleachers, causing heads to turn toward us. He was shouting at me, his words sharp and cutting.

Trembling with fear, I managed to whisper, "I was here." The room was silent except for the sound of his heavy breathing. I could feel his anger radiating off of him like heat waves.

I didn't dare look up at him, afraid of what I might see in his eyes.

I could only wait for his response, hoping it wouldn't be violent.

The football field was alive with cheering fans and the thud of cleats against the grass. The game was in full swing, with both teams fiercely battling for victory. Suddenly, a commotion erupted on the sidelines.

Ace, one of the players, was causing a scene. His teammates tried to calm him down, but he was beyond reason.

The tension on the field was palpable as the entire football team came to a halt, their attention now focused on Ace's outburst.

The spectators watched in stunned silence as the game was unexpectedly paused.

Damian's eyes blazed with fury as he stood at the bottom of the bleachers, his voice ringing out with a demand that brooked no argument.

"We need to get home...now," he spat out, his words laced with a sense of urgency that made the hairs on the back of his companions' necks stand on end.

As I strolled down the street, my feet carried me toward Ace. The sun beat down on my skin, warming me as I made my way closer to my destination. With each step, I felt a sense of anticipation building inside me.

Finally, I arrived at the entrance of Ace and pushed open the door, eager to see what awaited me inside. As we left, I walked beside him, my heart pounding with anticipation.

The cool evening air brushed against my skin, sending shivers down my spine. I glanced at him, taking in his tall frame and robust features.

We walked silently, the only sound being the crunch of leaves beneath our feet. I wondered where we were headed and what adventures awaited us.

"Lily?" I heard Blake's voice calling out for me in the distance. It was a familiar sound I had grown accustomed to over the years. Without hesitation, I turned and made my way toward the source of the sound.

As I got closer, I could see Blake's figure standing in the distance, his arms waving frantically. I quickened my pace, eager to see what he needed. Finally, I reached him, and he looked at me with a sense of urgency in his eyes.

"We need to talk," he said, his voice low and serious. I knew then that whatever he had to say was necessary, and I braced myself for what was to come.

As I gazed upon Damian's countenance, I saw his anger intensifying each moment. She called out to him as he hastily approached the door.

He paused for a moment, turning to face her with a look of uncertainty etched on his face. "I'm just going out for a bit," he replied, his voice tinged with hesitation.

She watched as he slipped on his coat and grabbed his keys, a sense of unease settling in her stomach. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, that he was hiding something from her. "Be careful," she said softly, her eyes following him as he disappeared. Blake's hand shot out as I turned around and grabbed my arm. As I felt a sudden jolt, my body flinched involuntarily. I turned to look at Damian, who had shifted his attention to Blake.

He glared at the man standing before him, his voice low and dangerous. "Did I say you could touch her?" The words hung heavy in the air, the tension between the two men palpable.

The woman in question stood frozen, her eyes darting between the two, unsure what to do. The man before him smirked, his hand still resting on her arm.

"I didn't think you'd mind," he replied, his tone mocking. The first man's jaw clenched, his fists balling at his sides.

"You thought wrong," he growled, taking a step forward.

The other man stepped back, his smirk fading. It was clear he had underestimated the first man's anger.

The woman finally found her voice, speaking up slightly, timidly. "Please, let's just go," she pleaded, tugging on the first man's arm. He hesitated momentarily, his eyes still locked on the other man.

Finally, he relented, turning to leave with the woman in tow. As they walked away, he couldn't help but feel a sense of protectiveness wash over him.

He would do anything to keep her safe, even if it meant confronting his demons. Damian's eyes narrowed as he glared at Blake, his lips curling into a snarl. Blake's eyes narrowed as he glared at Damian.

"You shouldn't have to say if I can touch her," he snapped back, his voice laced with anger. The tension between the two men was palpable as they stood facing each other, their bodies tense and ready for a fight.

Damian's jaw clenched as he struggled to control his emotions. He knew Blake was right but couldn't help feeling possessive of the woman they were both vying for.

They were playing a dangerous game, and Damian knew it was only a matter of time before things boiled over.

Blake looked up at Damian, taking in his height and broad shoulders.

He couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy at the other man's impressive physique. Damian seemed to carry himself with an air of confidence as if he knew he was the stronger of the two.

Blake couldn't deny that he felt a bit intimidated by his friend's imposing presence. Blake," she gasped, relief flooding through her.
