Chapter 28 - Shocking News

The next morning, before going to school Jake and Sky were having breakfast and Sky decided to take the picture of Jake when they were done eating. Standing up to keep their plates in the sink, Sky asked Jake for the picture now.

"Hey bro let's take a picture." Sky said bringing his phone out from his pocket.

"Why?" Jake asked washing off the dishes.

"Does there have to be a reason for me to want to take a pic with my brother?"

"Is this about what you were saying last night?" Jake asked now drying his hands with a napkin.

"No bro come on. You told me there's nothing going on and I believe you so I've dropped it." Sky lied. "Now are we taking this picture or what?"

"Okay." Jake agreed.

After taking the picture in the living room, Sky was glad that he had managed to take the picture with Jake. 'Now I just have to wait till that change happens again.' Sky thought to himself.

"Sky instead of walking to school today, let's go in a Glist." Jake told Sky. "I still don't feel like walking a long distance."

"Okay, but you're paying for both of us."

"What? Why do I have to pay?" Jake asked him.

"You're the one who wants to act like your legs are broken and go to school in a Glist aren't you?"

"Yeah but you have more credits than me, why can't you pay for yourself?"

"I can but I don't want to. Are you going to pay for both us or not?" Sky asked him.

"Fine. Only because I'm a good elder brother."

"Yeah yeah. Let's go."

"Dad." Jake called from downstairs. "We're leaving."

Coming down the stairs a little, Andrea said to them "Have a nice day."

"You too dad." Sky said as he shut the door. "Well where's the Glist?" Sky asked standing with Jake on the portico.

"Calm down will you. It's not like the Glist is going to just appear whenever we book it. Besides what I booked is the latest version of the Glist."

"Seriously? In that case I guess I can pay for my own bill. How much is it?" Sky asked.

"Not too much. It's 800 credits." Jake answered.

"800 credits for the both of us?" Sky asked surprised. "It's not as expensive as I thought it would be."

"No it's 800 credits each."

Sky said nothing and simply stared at Jake.

"Sky?" Jake called his name while waving his hand in front of Sky's face. "Hello? Earth to Sky."

"Are you crazy?" Sky shouted unexpectedly. "How can you book something so expensive just to take us to a place we can walk to. And why didn't you book a two-person Seetle instead, or a normal version of the Glist. Did you have to book the latest version?"

"Bro you really gotta work on yourself." Jake said stepping back slowly. "I booked the latest version because it's something I've always to get into, you know? And it's not really that expensive, I'm sure..."

"What's all the noise about?" Andrea asked coming out of the house. "I thought you two had gone to school already."

Pulling up in front of the house was a sleek vehicle. Red in colour, floating above the ground using an Ethanium powered energy core with tinted plexiglass windows, the boosters at the back of the vehicle were to increase the speed incase of emergency situations and the Glist was capable of containing four people.

"Whoa!" Jake and Sky exclaimed at the sight of the Glist that just pulled up.

"Did you guys book this?" Andrea asked referring to the Glist.

"No, Jake did." Sky answered. "And it costs 800 credits just for one person."

"Sky don't worry about that. I can pay for both of us."

"You both should go." Andrea said to both of them. "I'll pay for it."

"Thanks dad." Jake said already going to enter the Glist.

Going to meet the driver, Andrea brought his credit card out from his pocket and paid the 1600 credits for Jake and Sky. "Bye." he said to Jake and Sky as the Glist drove off.

"I gotta admit, this is pretty rad." Sky said to Jake on their way to school.

"I know right." Jake said. "Soft, fluffy Secerian leather, a screen showing you the route to your destination, a built-in refrigerator, this glass to ensure some kind of privacy for the passengers." he said pointing to the glass in front of them which divided the driver side from the passenger side, "And all these other cool-looking things. Kinda makes our 1600 credits worth it." Drinking something he took from the refrigerator, Jake asked Sky "Why were you so bothered about the price anyway? It's not like you can't pay for it."

"I'm saving my credits for something." Sky told him.

"Saving your credits? Yet you're still buying all these expensive clothes, shoes and other expensive stuff." Jake said not buying what Sky told him.

"Yes. That's why I can't spend more credits than I have to on things like... This." Sky said using his hands to signal the Glist they were currently in.

Getting down from the Glist which had just stopped and walking through the school gate, Jake asked Sky "So what are you saving for?"

"A Glist."

"Seriously? You're not even old enough to drive one yet, you have to be 18 and a half years."

"I know, that's why I'm saving for it now. By the time I'm old enough to drive I'll have enough credits to purchase the version of the Glist which will be the latest in two years." Sky explained.

"That's a lot of planning. Why don't you just tell dad to buy you a car?" Jake asked him as they entered the school building.

"I'll still tell him I want a car. That way I'm gonna have two."

"What are you going to do with two cars?"

"I'm gonna drive them of course. Talk to you later." Sky said going to his class.

Going to his own class, Jake stopped at Cat's seat to have a quick chat before going to his seat which were close to Kevin and Smith's seats.

"Sup." Jake said to Kevin and Smith.

"Oh look Kevin." Smith said to Kevin. "It's the guy who forgot about us then got into a fight for a girl and went ahead to leave us at the party."

"Oh hey guy. You liking your newly acquired popularity? Everyone just can't get enough of you, see how they're all staring at you." Kevin said.

"Come on guys, don't be like that. Of course I had to help Cat, I couldn't just stand by and let that idiot do what he wanted. After that she said she wanted to leave so I followed her. I looked for you guys but I couldn't find any of you."

Walking into the class was their teacher Mr Blackwell. "Good morning class. Those of you who followed my advice and studied consistently are about to get the reward of your labour. Examination starts tomorrow."
