It was another Monday morning in the sunny city of Sanya, Hainan. Derrick and his teammates were assigned to find the killer behind the recent murder of a well-known businessperson, Michael Bai, of Hong Kong. Based on the information given by the higher-ups, Derrick could already sense this will be a complicated case. He sighed as he closed the folder and rubbed his temple. One of his teammates, Leo, tapped on Derrick's broad shoulder. Derrick was an attractive young man and an outstanding police officer.
"Is everything all right, mate? You look like you're going to pass out at any moment." Leo looked with concern, but Derrick reassured him, "I'm fine. I didn't get a good sleep last night." Derrick got up from his seat and went out to get some fresh air. The police chief, who was in the hallway, stopped Derrick.
"Derrick, what do you think of this case?"
"It's not a simple suicide case. I feel like someone murdered him, but I'm not so sure. I need to look into it more." Derrick looked at the Chief and he nodded, "Derrick, I trust you and your teammates. We need to find this killer as soon as possible. Since he's on the loose, he might kill more people. It's only a matter of time." The Chief patted Derrick's shoulder and said, "Derrick, I've known you for such a long time. But your mother's death wasn't your fault. Get some rest today because you are going to get busy soon." Derrick nodded and reassured the Chief, "Thank you. I'll be fine."
Derrick and his teammates kept an eye out for a criminal at a bar near Paradise Hotel in the evening.. Derrick and his men all wore T-shirts and jeans. They showed their ID to the personnel and they were allowed in. Many people who came here were all young adults in their 20s to their early 30s.
"I wish we can drink tonight but too bad we can't." Leo was disappointed because he really wanted to get a booze.
"A cup of water, please." Derrick asked one of the male bartender and he nodded.
"Enjoy." He replied.
"Officer Derrick, long time no see!" Derrick's university friend also came to the bar to enjoy themselves. He looked at his friends and asked, "Is she your girlfriend?" While Derrick's friend talked to him, Derrick pretended to listen to him because he had to be on the lookout.
"I met her at work. She's a very smart woman." Derrick's friend replied and held her hand, "By the way, Derrick... how about you? Do you have a woman yet?" Derrick looked at him and shook his head. "I don't have time to date. I don't want to fall in love. It's a hassle." Derrick's friend looked at him and shook his head as well, "You are going to stay single forever if you don't find someone. Come on, buddy, I want to go to your wedding soon." Derrick smiled and got off his seat. He put his hand on his friend's shoulder and whispered, "I'm at work now. I don't have time to talk."
Derrick signalled his teammates because he saw someone suspicious. The person was a middle-aged bald man, and he looked very drunk. Then Derrick saw a beautiful young lady with her hair tied up in a ponytail. She was a bartender serving drinks to customers. The bald man approached the young lady by grabbing her wrist. But the young lady didn't say anything. Her cold eyes looked at the bald man as she nearly broke his wrist.
"You! You're gonna pay for this!" The bald man took out a knife and winged at her that made other customers run for their lives. The young woman didn't flinch at the sight of the knife. Derrick saw her as she fought with the bald man. Her movements were swift. She wasn't afraid of being attacked. She dodged quickly and quickly stopped the bald man from attacking her. She didn't smile at all, but Derrick's heart was pounding. He felt his chest and looked at her.
"That young lady was so badass." Leo was shocked by the whole incident, and Derrick stood there like a statue. He wasn't sure what happened, but when he looked at her, his whole body tensed up. He looked the other way while a few officers got the bald man in custody. While Derrick and his teammates were talking to the other officers, the young woman touched Derrick's hand gently, then walked away. Her soft hair touched his elbow that made his body hair stand up.
He looked back, but the young woman was gone from his sight. He wanted to get to know her more, but he shook his head. I should concentrate on working. I cannot get side-tracked, he kept on reminding himself by keeping himself busy with work.
Elvira looked at Derrick from the second floor of the bar and formed a small grin.
