The jet touched down on the pack lands, its engines gradually winding down as the wheels met the runway. The journey back had been full of silence with Marie sat in deep contemplation watching the clouds pass by. Blake had wanted to question her on the events so that he could locate who was responsible and punish them himself, but he knew he could not push Marie to fast or she would simply run again.
The door to the jet opened and in silence Blake took Marie's hand and led her to the black range rover that was sat on the tarmac waiting. Blake helped Marie into the passenger seat and lent across securing her seatbelt. He then walked around and jumped into the drivers seat. Marie glanced over at Blake with a small smile on her lips but remained silent. She leant her head against the window and watched as she once again travelled through the pack lands. Soon Marie was fast asleep.
The pack house appeared and Blake stopped the car at the bottom of the steps. He did not want to wake Marie so he gently undid the seat beat and lifted her into his arm, her form light against his strength. Marie stirred slightly but nuzzled herself into Blakes neck and was fast asleep again.
Blake made his way up the stairs and in through the front door followed by Steve. As soon as the doors opened Sophie came rushing forward but her pace saw when she saw Marie draped in Blakes arms, she slowed her pace. Worry and concern flashed across her face.
"Blake, how is she? What happened?"
Blake shook his head "I will fill you in later mum. I just want to get her to bed" he continued on his ay.
"Of course" Sophie replied as she watched Blake disappear up the stairs.
Blake pushed the bedroom door open with his foot and marched over to the bed. Carefully, Blake laid Marie on the bed, tucking her in with a gentle touch. He watched her for a moment, his fingers brushing against her cheek as he whispered, "I love you".
Blake quietly left the room and opened the mind link. "mum, where are you?"
"In the library my dear"
Blake closed the mind link and with tired steps headed to the library. Sophie lowered her book and lifted her gaze to meet her sons when he entered the library. Sophies eyes were filled with warmth for her son.
"Blake," she greeted, setting her book aside. "How's Marie? Is she alright?"
"Marie's stable now. Doctor Michael had taken her to the hospital, she had to undergo surgery. She's been through a lot, but she's resting."
Sophie's concern was evident as she listened, her gaze unwavering. "What happened, Blake? What led to all of this?"
Blake sat down next to Sophie and and ran his hands through his hair. "Oh mum, I do not know. Marie has not said anything yet. She has been though so much and is exhausted"
Sophie pulled her son in for a hug. "All she has said is that she was scared they were right and she ran"
"they?" Sophie questioned. "Who would be stupid enough in this pack to attack Marie after you had just announced her as your mate?"
"I don't know mum, but I am going to find out and make them pay" Sophie smiled at her son and stroked his hair as he rested his exhausted head on her shoulder. Suddenly Blake began to feel panic rise in his chest. He knew he was feeling Marie's feelings not his own. He jumped up from his speat next to his mother.
"Marie.....Mum I have to go" Blake said as he ran from the library.
As Blake's footsteps quickened, a wave of panic surged within him, his heart racing in response to the emotions he was sensing through the bond he shared with Marie.
With every step, his concern deepened, his mind racing through the possibilities of what could be causing such intense distress for Marie. He reached their room and pushed the door open. His gaze darted straight to the bed where he could see Marie thrashing around the bed in the midst of a nightmare. Blake approached the bed and kneeled by the side. He reached out and stroked Marie's face. His touch made Marie flinch and she sprung up in bed gasping for air and clutching at her chest.
Blake jumped straight on to the bed next to Marie and pulled her against his chest. hoping his Prescence and touch would help calm her.
"Its okay baby, it was just a dream. You are safe"
Marie's breaths gradually steadied, her grip on reality strengthening as she focused on him. "Blake…"
He leaned in closer, his fingers brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "I'm here, Marie. You're safe."
Marie nestled into Blakes chest and let her tears fall. Blake tightened his grip and sat in silence letting Marie release the emotions. After a while the tears stopped and Marie sat up looking into Blake eyes.
"What were you dreaming about baby?" Blake asked as he moved a stray hair back behind Marie's ear.
"The...The night I was attacked" Marie answered him sadly.
"Oh baby!. You are safe now. I will never let anything like that happen again"
Marie smiled softly at Blake and rested her head back down on to his chest.
"Marie, Can you please tell me what happened?"
"I was at the lake when I heard a noise behind me and when I turned around a female Lycan approached me"
"A female?" who was she?" Blakes grip on Marie tightened as he felt his anger bubbling.
"I..I don't know who she was. She is not somebody I had been introduced to that night" Blake remained quiet allowing Marie to finish.
"She told me that I was not welcome in your world and that you deserved a real queen not a human. She said that you would soon realize that. That is when she.... " Marie stopped, she could feel panic rising in heir chest and tear pricking at her eyes again. Blake grabbed her cheeks with both hands " you are safe baby, I am here. Tell me"
"That is when she pushed me down the embankment and I hit every rock. Before she left she told me that if I did not leave, she would do more than push me"
With those words Blake could not suppress his anger any more. A loud growl rumbled from his chest and Jet was angrily pacing in his mind. He did not want to move away from Marie but he knew he needed to put space between them due to his anger.
"I am going to find this woman and I am going to kill her" He roared as he paced around the room.
