The distance created between the battlefield and Heindrik did not hinder his ability to see what had transpired. It all happened way too fast for him to catch up.
Under the dark night sky, the person named Night, who was known to be only a newly awakened Legion, fought a calamity-tier Chaos creature and was able to defeat such a monster that even Heindrik himself doubted winning against.
The darkness concealed so much of their fight, but the silence made up for it. With eyes still widening in astonishment and disbelief, he marched his way to the victor.
Meanwhile, Night knew that someone was currently heading in his direction but remained standing still as new words continued to appear and reflect on his retina.
[The probability of the fight is being calculated.
It may delay the disbursement of rewards.]
Night watched the sky. It was still dark, but not so much that it would hinder his sight.
'The surroundings got better after the fight. Did I exhaust the special effect of the short sword? '
The short sword granted its owner an incredible amount of luck. Well, the former short sword did.
Night's hand flew to the chain, still wrapping his right arm tight enough for him to figure out that he wouldn't be able to take it off easily.
The moonlight peeked occasionally through the clouds carried by the blowing wind.
[Master, the rewards...]
"Not now, Rafael."
Night's eyes squinted. His vision began to blur, and he could feel the ground beneath his feet moving like the ocean waves, or so he thought.
He staggered for a few seconds before his body tilted backwards. He could feel the wind repelling his fall, but wasn't able do anything about it.
'Rafael...'
[I'm on it.]
It was midnight; the bell had rung. A new day has started, which means that Rafael will be able to help Night once again.
With his current state, he was not aware of how the formless Whispers, which had become his temporary armor, disappeared with such glee that they could be of help to the person they intended to serve.
Night was about to close his eyes as his body tilted backwards, but to his surprise, the person approaching, who did not even make an ample effort to hide his presence, caught him before he could slam on the muddy ground.
"Legion Night!"
Heindrik yelled his name as his movements hastened when he saw him close to falling. He caught his body just in time, but was unsure about what to do after seeing Night's face.
A black residue continuously dripped from his mouth, and his body felt cold under his palms. He knew too well what would happen if a person was in such a state.
"He's dying."
Heindrik's head snapped behind him. Secretary Lee stood not too far from where they were. He ordered him to get out of there, but surprisingly, Secretary Lee, who did every single thing he told him, did not obey this time.
"First, we must take him to the hospital."
"No, we can't. He has a bounty, and I'm sure he wouldn't want that either."
'Well said, old man.'
Night, who had his eyes closed after seeing who had caught him, thought inwardly. He decided to turn a blind eye to why Heindrik was in his territory and to trust him for now. He had no choice, as fatigue was eating him up wholly.
The feeling of his warm blood gushing out of his wounds didn't make him feel any better. And as for the bounty, Heindrik mentioned:
'I'll take care of it once I'm healed.'
Night decided to not think too hard about it and rest without knowing that his plans to take care of it would be pushed back much later.
As his mind drifted off into the unknown, Heindrik and Secretary Lee took him to their house. As soon as they arrived, Heindrik carried Night on his shoulder and headed to the third floor of the house. He didn't see the look of surprise on Secretary Lee's face.
***
The first floor of the house was a place that was opened to people that the two of them invited inside, while the second floor was a place that Heindrik's visitors were allowed to enter. And the third floor was a place exclusive only to him and Secretary Lee, which was why when Heindrik took him to the third floor, he instantly knew that Night was someone who would become someone included in the people who could reach the third floor at anytime. He was someone that Heindrik had decided to trust, but as to why that was, Secretary Lee was only about to find out.
Heindrik laid on Night's limp body, and the white sheets were instantly dyed red.
"He's losing too much blood at a fast rate."
Heindrik's eyes narrowed on the three gashes on Night's waist and the three holes on his upper waist at the other end.
"Just how the hell did he manage to kill that monster in this state? No. That's not important. Call Samuel."
Heindrik massaged his temples and wrinkled his forehead. He viewed the situation as too dire to not react like that.
Sweat formed on his forehead as he started to pace around the room. Meanwhile, Secretary Lee was in the corner, dialing a number on his phone.
"Someone is dying. Please come to Sir Heindrik's house immediately."
Secretary Lee's words caused Heindrik to stop pacing. His eyes shot to his secretary with much amusement plastered on his troubled face. And although Secretary Lee was aware of his master's gaze, he decided to set it aside.
'That was the only way for the doctor to head here as soon as possible.'
Secretary Lee thought inwardly as he turned his head away from his master's prickly gaze.
It wasn't long before someone came banging on the door of the house.
"Where is Heindrik? Just what could cause that overly vital man to be on the verge of death?"
Doctor Samuel, who had barged in, looked like he really came running with his disheveled hair, pajamas, and mismatched slippers.
However, as soon as his eyes caught Heindrik, who was perfectly fine while leaning on the staircase, his ghost-like face turned red in rage.
"Why are you okay?"
Heindrik ignored how Samuel spat at him as his eyes wandered to the other's hands.
"At least you've brought your tools."
Heindrik stood straight and motioned for him to follow him upstairs. The doctor could only glare at Heindrik back but still followed him.
"There is no way Secretary Lee would call me himself if he were at death's door."
"It's because it's not him but someone else."
"That's really strange of you to allow someone into your house. For all I know, only a few people could go in with your permission."
As they reached the second floor, Samuel headed straight to the hallway, which would take them to the guest rooms, but to his surprise, Heindrik headed further up.
"What are you doing?"
"The third floor?"
Samuel almost dropped the bag on his hand. Heindrik sighed and paid no attention to Samuel's exaggerated reaction.
'I guess it's not that much of an exaggeration? '
Because the third floor was exclusive only for him and Secretary Lee, even Samuel never stepped foot there. If there were times when he was called in for help, he would always treat them on the second floor.
Samuel couldn't help but look around as he stepped foot on the third floor for the first time. And as they entered the room, Samuel's eyes widened at the sight of what's on the bed.
"Hey, that's not a corpse yet, isn't it?"
He rushed inside and pushed Secretary Lee aside, who was trying to stop Night's wound from bleeding.
In an instant, the bag was opened, and several surgical tools floated in the air. A green light then surrounded Samuel's body. Cutting Night's clothes with a scissor revealed the wounds hidden inside.
Samuel was a Legion with a deviant class. He was a healer, to be specific. The green light surrounding his body extended into streaks, and those became threads that connected to each surgical tool floating in the air.
It didn't take long for him to patch Night up, and that was mostly because he was self-healing with Rafael's help.
"Huu!"
Samuel released a deep breath and deactivated his skill before turning around.
"He's alright."
Relief washed over Heindrik's eyes before it disappeared like a bubble.
"I'm sure you have lots of questions."
"I do. Serve me some coffee downstairs. We should let him have some rest."
Samuel grabbed his bag and headed to the door. Secretary Lee didn't waste any time staring at the person lying on the bed and headed down to prepare the coffee.
The coffee was served as soon as they arrived downstairs. Samuel sat on the counter while Heindrik leaned near the sink.
"So, who was that kid?"
Heindrik could feel a headache coming and pinched his nose bridge.
"I don't know, too."
"What do you mean you don't know?"
"He was introduced by Louis as an awakened. He fled the Central Awakened Station after destroying it to nothing, then I found him at that deserted park fighting a calamity-tier Chaos creature."
Samuel slammed the cup down on the counter and raised his hand to stop Heindrik from talking.
"You're throwing too much information at once."
"Well, you are the one who asked."
Samuel softly closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"So Legion Louis found him and went to introduce him to you. That, sure, makes sense. But an awakened one destroying the CAS into what? Nothing?! Fighting against a calamity-tier Chaos creature?! Were you sleep walking? Do you need me to give you some medicine? No, is it much better for me to heal whatever mental damage you have? I guess you haven't been touching grass lately because your swamped with your work and have been cooped inside your office for far too long, but taking your frustrations out on a kid with nothing but skin and bones is still too much, don't you think?!"
Veins bulged in Heindrik's forehead as his jaws tightened.
"You sure assumed a lot of things right there."
'Opps.'
Samuel covered his mouth, but it was all too late.
