Secretary Lee excused himself and headed to Night's room. The sheets were still dyed red, and the blood was starting to dry. Sighing, he took clean sheets from the cabinet inside the walk-in closet and changed the sheets carefully enough to not cause any discomfort to the patient.
Secretary Lee pulled a chair beside the bed and sat down.
"I know you're awake."
Night opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling.
"In this kind of moment, shouldn't you pretend that you don't know?"
"You'll get enough rest after answering my questions."
Night turned to Secretary Lee. The latter looked unperturbed about the glare that was sent flying to him.
"This is why I hate strong Legions."
"Please don't compare me to Legion Louis."
Night sighed and pushed himself up and leaned on the bedrest.
"So, what do you want to know?"
His eyes fell to his clothes. They didn't change his clothes, which were now ripped open because of the doctor. A frown appeared on his face, and he took them off. The sweat that had dried made him feel uncomfortable. Secretary Lee noticed this and opened his mouth.
"This won't take long if you cooperate."
"I think hygiene is much more important than your questions, though."
"That's strange coming from a slum rat like you."
Night's face became stoic as he took off his ragged clothes and wrapped the clean blanket around himself.
"Who are you?"
Night's eyebrows raised. It was a nonsensical question for him to be asked.
"Get straight to the point."
Secretary Lee's face then crumpled.
"An awakened one suspected to have become a Legion by himself without any guidance, and that person was from the ghetto of rats located at the border of Area 2 and 4. He was suspected to be favored by the Sage, as per his bounty's description. And that person, you, Legion Night, who only became a Legion suspected to be a few hours ago, was able to not only fend off a calamity-tier Chaos creature but defeat it. And you..."
Secretary Lee paused. His hands clenched into fists, sweating profusely as he cleared the lump building in his throat.
"You give the feeling of a god."
Night blinked a couple of times. His lips slowly parted as the sides turned upwards. A laugh escaped his lips, but his eyes remained stoic.
"You're a funny guy, you know. Did you really suspect me to be a god? Me, who you said lived in the slums? Your words are contradictory to each other, my good sir. If I was indeed a god, then shouldn't I have lived inside a temple?"
Secretary Lee's eyes fell to his clenched hands resting on his knees.
"If you are going to continue asking your ridiculous questions, then I would rather prefer to wash up than to answer them."
Night got out of the bed and walked to the only other door that hadn't been opened, suspecting it was the bathroom, and washed the dirt off himself.
Meanwhile, Secretary Lee got up and prepared Night's clothes and left them on top of the bed before leaving.
[I have healed most of your external injuries, master. Although it would take a little time before your internal injuries get a full recovery, but you'll be fine. That healer was surprisingly a good one.]
Night switched off the shower. Steam was all over the bathroom as he washed himself with warm water. It's been a while since he had one, but he couldn't even enjoy it to the fullest.
"Rafael..."
[Hmm?]
"You're not peeking, are you?"
The silence became too unbearable to him as he waited impatiently for Rafael's response.
[Master, there's not even much to see.]
"You...!"
[First of all, you are too skinny. You're basically skin and bones. There is no muscle in your twig-like body. And as for your man, uhmm, well, I can't see it even if I want to. The steam is too thick.]
Night's hand slammed on the wall, and he turned the shower back on with a higher heat than before.
[You'll burn yourself.]
"Shut up."
Night came out of the bath and noticed the clothes on the bed. He changed into them and was tempted to throw himself back to bed, but he had other matters to attend to.
His eyes wandered around the room, and he only realized how much he was missing out on in his entire life. The small chandelier hanging on the ceiling, the king-sized bed, the furniture that only people of high status could acquire, and the decorations that he wouldn't be able to buy even if he sold his organs.
'But I have no use for such material things.'
Night went out of the room and came down to see that Heindrik, Samuel, and Secretary Lee were all seated. Three pairs of eyes were locked on him as he made his way to the single chair, which was the only one not occupied.
"I might sound arrogant saying this, but I'll say it anyway. Before you ask me any absurd questions you may have, I would like you to listen to me first."
If there was one thing that he resolved himself to do as the eyes of the predators locked on him, it was to not let himself be taken along with their own wave.
'If they are going to ask me questions anyway, then I'll make sure that they wouldn't be able to ask me questions I don't want to answer.'
"My name is Night, and as per your information, I have recently become a Legion—not a few hours ago, but a few days ago. What you might or might not have seen back at the deserted park during my fight with the calamity-tier Chaos creature called Six Mirrored Wraith is one of the skills that I have acquired through the system. As I am only a newly invited awakened one, I'm not certain about the extent of my own powers, which is why I may not be able to answer any of your questions regarding that topic."
Night took a deep breath and tilted his head to the side and grabbed the untouched cup in front of him.
'That should be an ample amount of information to reveal.'
Samuel sighed, Secretary Lee cleared his throat, while Heindrik remained silent.
"I see. So we were wrong from the start. Since you said that even you yourself don't have any idea about your limits, there is nothing I can do. But if you agree, I can set up an appointment at the Awakened Association for your assessment. Of course, we will not reveal your true identity."
"Bold of you to think that I will trust your words. I'm not naive to believe that you would betray the association just to hide my identity."
Secretary Lee's forehead creased after Night nonchalantly talked back to Heindrik.
"I have already betrayed the association the moment I took you in."
"Ahem!"
Samuel cleared his throat. Night glanced at him and caught the latter staring. A smile appeared on Night's face and said:
"Thank you so much for healing me, Doctor..."
"Samuel."
"Yes, Doctor Samuel."
Night slightly lowered his head towards Samuel before turning back to Heindrik.
"I have a proposition."
The atmosphere grew cold after what Night stated. Heindrik's eyes narrowed at him, while Secretary Lee attempted to shoot up if not for Samuel shaking his head. The crease on Secretary Lee's forehead deepened.
"I'll believe what you said for now. In that case, what do you want from me for you to make enemies with the association?"
Heindrik fell silent. His face didn't reveal any of his thoughts, but his poker face was nothing to Night at that moment.
[Rafael has granted you Stolen Comprehension! You can now glimpse into others' minds! Due to the Legion's low level, a limit has been set.
Your usage of the skill Stolen Comprehension has been reduced to twenty minutes!]
The side of Night's lips raised. Heindrik felt the hair on his arm beneath his shirt stand. Night's gaze felt like it pierced his soul. He shifted in his seat.
"I trust my gut. That's all I can say."
'I know it. This guy will be someone who could change everything. He might become the most powerful Legion in the world. I need to watch him. Will he become the hero that could save the world or the monster who will bring destruction upon it?'
Night scoffed inwardly as he read Heindrik's thoughts. He had no qualms about him being the strongest Legion because he had Rafael to help him, but being a hero was a different conversation.
'I only plan to be the strongest so that my existence wouldn't be threatened by anyone. Getting hurt is not an option, and more so when it comes to death.'
It was only a week ago when his existence was something that could disappear at any moment. He hated how he was in constant agony, but he couldn't complain about it as he was someone insignificant.
Night was someone who could disappear without anyone knowing or caring about.
'I've had enough of that life.'
"Then, I suppose that means you will help me in achieving those thoughts?"
His face, which had become stoic due to his earlier thoughts, had a smile creep on it. Heindrik's eyes widened as beads of sweat started to appear on his forehead.
"Ha... haha!"
'I knew I wasn't wrong.'
Heindrik stood up from his seat and walked towards Night.
"I shall help you tread that path."
Heindrik reached his hand to Night, while the latter's smile widened before he took his hand.
The deal was sealed.
