"What do you mean?"
Heindrik asked in confusion. Being a Legion himself made him see the unusual mana fluctuation in the distance, but other than that, he couldn't see.
Night sighed and momentarily closed his eyes.
'I guess it would be better if I tell them myself,' he thought and pushed Secretary Lee aside.
"The gate is slowly forming in that direction. As you can see, there is an unusual mana fluctuation, right there," Night pointed over to the direction of the forming gate.
"The murky mana which we can feel when fighting with Chaos Creatures and the natural mana in our surroundings are mixing, which creates Chaos Creatures."
"Do you mean that the Chaos Creatures don't come from the Abyss?" Samuel raised a question.
"They do, I don't really know and understand the principles. But I think that the murky mana doesn't originally come from the Chaos Creatures, but instead, it comes from the Abyss. Chaos Creatures are born by that murky mana and other unknown things.
"Assuming that there were too much murky mana from the Abyss and there were too little of the other 'unknown thing', what do you think would happen?"
Samuel opened his mouth to speak but Heindrik was a beat faster.
"The murky mana would leak into our world and Chaos Creatures would be born here."
"That's right. Just because the 'unknown thing' is scarce in the Abyss doesn't mean that it is here, too," Night nodded his head and spoke with a slight smile on his face.
[You seem to have too much information in that head of yours, master.]
'What do you think did I do while living in the slums?' Secretary Lee pinched his chin and fell into a deep thought.
"Does that mean that the 'unknown thing' which is scarce in the Abyss is the natural mana?" He whispered and caught everyone's attention.
"Well, Secretary Lee, why don't you go to the Abyss and come back to tell us about it?" Night joked, but it didn't sound like one with his stoic expression plastered on his face.
"Anyway, it might be because the Abyss is filled with too much murky mana and got no space left for natural mana to reside or maybe that place just doesn't have the ability to hold such natural mana in the long run. Whatever the case is, it doesn't change the fact that the murky mana will overflow in our world through the rifts and Chaos Creatures will be born here."
Night took a deep breath and walked over to the door.
"Where are you going?" Heindrik followed him to the door.
"I'm going to rest. Didn't you tell me to regain my mana?" Heindrik's lips fell agape, but Night just shrugged his shoulders and went out.
He felt a warm feeling through his skin as he passed through the veil that Heindrik put up earlier.
[That veil is interesting.]
Rafael spoke as Night walked his way to the room he was put into.
'What do you mean?'
[It's just. It's a little similar to how Whispers work.]
'What?'
[I'm not really sure as only a little is known about them ever since the Whisper's Sovereign fell from his throne.]
'The Whisper's Sovereign?'
[Well, it is what it is. You can think of him as a god if you'd like.]
'I'd rather not. I don't want to be associated with any god if possible.' Night thought and it was read by Rafael as usual.
Rafael thought of something as well, and if that thought ever reached Night, he would probably faint:
[Even if you say that, you are already associated with two of the most powerful gods.]
The next morning arrived and the sun hadn't even risen from the east when Secretary Lee was already knocking on his door.
"Legion Night, you need to wake up. Your evaluation is at 9:30."
Night groaned and pulled the duvet over his head. The cool fresh air from the air-conditioner was too different from the cold night breeze mixed with all kinds of scents from the slums. The soft bed beneath his back and the pillows which almost buried him felt too vivid for Night to think of his situation as a dream.
His body opposed what his brain's command to wake up.
"Legion Night?"
Another knock came from the door. This time it was much louder and longer. It sounded like Secretary Lee was already banging on the poor door.
Night kicked the duvet and stared at the ceiling for a few seconds.
'Truly, a nice, warm, and cozy room is the best.' He thought, his eyes half closed.
"I'm awake!"
Night cut Secretary Lee off. Getting up from the bed took too much of his strength. The king-sized bed had a latched on Night's deepest desire and was tugging at it too hard for him to resist.
[Please, no. That guy might break down the door.]
"Haa."
Night sighed and scratched his nape walking into the bathroom for a quick bath.
Samuel slept at the house and said that he would join them on their way to the Awakened Association. His reason was because he had to watch over his patient and make sure that he doesn't get into hellacious activities.
Night agreed without a hitch. For the first time, his thoughts aligned with Samuel's.
They went by car, although it would have been faster for them to go by foot if they ran full speed, but because they had a healer without any physical reinforcements with them, they couldn't possibly run and leave Samuel behind.
He might become a gasping mess before they could reach the Awakened Association.
"The hair really looks good on you," Heindrik commented, attempting to start a small talk to brighten the atmosphere inside the car.
"I guess it made me look more like a human being rather than a briard," Night's response made Heindrik clear his throat and Samuel shift on his seat.
Secretary Lee drove the car, Samuel sat on the passenger seat, while Heindrik and Night sat at the back. Truly the best seat for a tensed ride.
The ride was silent for the whole time after the small talk ended horribly. They passed by rifts which were close to opening, but they didn't have to take actions because parties consisting of different class Legions were stationed near.
At the entrance, they were greeted by the President's secretary.
"Please, come this way."
Secretary Lowell, the person who was better suited to be the District 1 Awakened Association President's assistant, led the way to the room where Night would be evaluated.
Several dozens of Legions were glancing their way as they walked to wherever Secretary Lowell would take them. Once they arrived at the room, Night's brows furrowed.
The room which spread wide was covered with white walls. Except for the humongous ball in the middle of the room and some holograms floating at the far corner, it reminded him of a place too familiar for him not to notice.
"Please get inside."
Secretary Lowell wore a poker face the entire time. Although he might be feeling dissatisfied that he had to serve Night and the others for the time being, his personal feelings showed none in his face or his actions.
"According to the document submitted to us, you are Legion Dark, correct?"
Night nodded his head.
'Who the heck is that?' He thought.
Night had no idea that they had submitted a document about him with a different identity. However, Secretary Lee only submitted it without him knowing because he was in deep slumber by the time he finished making his fake identity.
Of course, Night had no way of knowing this. And it was too late for him to know.
"Please place your hand in the mana evaluator please."
Night nodded his head and raised his hand, but stopped midway.
[Master! Be careful!]
It was because Rafael's loud voice made his head ring.
'What's the problem?'
[That thing is directly connected to the Sage, someone like you who was not invited by her will raise suspicion!]
'Can't you do anything about it?'
"Legion Dark?"
Secretary Lowell's voice could be heard from the far corner of the room.
"Dark?!"
Heindrik's voice followed.
Night raised his other hand with his forefinger up gesturing them to give him a moment.
[Well, I can disguise myself as the Sage for a maximum of ten minutes. Just hope that this test doesn't get any longer than that.]
'Please do. Whatever this test will be, I'll finish it within ten minutes.'
[Alright, then. Disguising will begin in three, two, one.]
In an instant, words reflected in Night's retina.
[Two-way communication with Rafael has been cut off!
Leveling system has locked!
Inventory has been locked!
Skills have been locked!
Talents have been locked!
Unique Traits have been locked!
Titles have been locked!]
Within a couple of seconds, several warnings popped in front of him which covered his sight of the mana evaluator.
'Rafael... you never said anything like this!'
