There's nothing much better than waking up to a beautiful Saturday morning, with birds chirping and singing by your window side, right?
Trust me, it felt so good.
I turned in bed, hearing the sound of my mom's voice beckon to me.
"Nia, breakfast is ready." She called from the kitchen.
A beautiful day it was, the aroma of my mom's cooking filling my nostrils, confirming the goodness of dawn.
Getting out of bed slowly, a weak yawn escaped my lips, while my hands rubbed at my eyes which were still yearning for more sleep.
Stepping out of my room, I proceeded into the little bathroom mom and I shared to run myself a warm bath.
Not long after half an hour of me washing and undergoing a round of thoughts while in the bath, I got changed into proper clothes, and then made my way to the kitchen.
I found mom over there, busy making toast.
She was back to her usual act of getting food ready, just in time for me to have my breakfast, right before leaving.
Her gaze took in my figure as soon as I walked in, a smile growing on her lips at my presence.
"Hey sunshine" I heard her call while handing the food over to me.
"Taking a quick bite into it, a quiet moan escaped my lips at how good it tasted.
"I can't remember the last time I tasted something this good." I voiced in between my chewing, voice coming out muffled.
"Thanks for the food, but I gotta hurry now,"
"Don't wanna be late for work."
I dropped the plate in the sink, and was just about leaving, when my mom's voice took me to a halt.
"About that... I wanna talk to you."
Turning to her, I realized the smile on her face was gone, and her expression had suddenly changed to a serious one.
"Nia?" She called, eyes boring into mine.
"I would like to know the reason why you're still working at that place....You can see I'm fine now" I heard her utter
I let out a sigh at her utterances, my eyes focused on her form.
"I need to keep working, mom. How else will our bills get paid? I thought we talked about this"
"Leave the bills to me. Right now, all you should be worried about is your education. That's all that matters" She uttered, taking a step closer to my figure.
"You can't stress yourself. Not after what the doctor said." I said to her.
"What about your education?" She questioned.
"It will all be fine, mom"
Were my words an assurance to her that all would turn out good, or was I only hoping so?
At this moment, I was utterly torn.
Wrapping her into a hug, I felt the tears sting my cheeks, while I remained in her embrace.
Not long afterwards, I proceeded out of our mini apartment, my heart bearing much worry.
***
Getting to the Williams mansion, I found the whole family present in the living room.
Every member there, excluding the oldest son, Jordan. I also took notice of Logan's absence.
At once, I sighted Savannah sat next to the figure of Cameron, her arms wrapped around him.
It was hard not noticing her as she had her face hovering over his at each second that passed by.
The triplets were sat close to their parents, discussing in low voices.
Ashley far away from the rest, her eyes glued to her phone.
Even the maids were also present.
All eyes turned to my figure the moment I stepped in, acknowledging my entrance.
I paid my greetings to Mr and Mrs Williams, and then, I hurried over to meet Denna, enquiring whatever was wrong.
"What did I miss?" I muttered in a whisper.
"Logan's missing." She whispered back.
"What?"
My lips gaped, eyes watching her while she went on with the details.
"He hasn't been seen since last night. They tried calling him but his line's dead."
Right at that very moment, the instant Denna was done speaking to me, like a miracle, the door pushed open, and in walked the subject of discussion.
"Logan!" Mrs Williams exclaimed, hurrying over to his figure to have a proper examination of the boy.
Mr Williams at once let out a low sigh, bending his head in his hands.
Ashley seemed uninterested while Cameron just watched on.
Tyler got up at once, advancing towards Logan.
"What the hell?"
"We were sat here all morning waiting for you" He uttered, voice getting a bit raised.
"Never knew I was this loved" Followed a response from Logan hinged with sarcasm.
"Young man, where were you?" Mrs Williams demanded at once.
Everyone was worried.
"I was over at a friend's" He replied,
"I told you he probably went visiting one of his friends. Now, can I leave?" An impatient Ashley uttered out of frustration.
Savannah gave a light scoff, looking away, resulting in a glare from Ashley, while she proceeded out of the room.
"Leaving the house without informing anyone? We couldn't even reach you" Mrs Williams resumed her scoldings towards Logan.
"I'm fine, alright" He gave a low chuckle, gaze peering at his mother.
"It's okay" Mr Williams uttered to his wife, speaking for the first time since I walked in.
He turned his attention to Logan, eyes boring into the boy.
"You're grounded" He pronounced
"For the week" He added in a low voice.
"What?! You can't ground me" The voice of Logan rang out, yelping.
"After school, you are to return home straight"
"You wouldn't wanna know what I would do if I found out you went somewhere else after closing hour"
"Dad!"
With that, he got up at once, walking out of the living room, leaving silence behind.
Mrs Williams soon turned over to Logan, saying something to him that I could barely make out from over here where I stood.
She was just about taking her leave, when miss Tara walked into the living room with a girl right by her side.
I recognised her immediately.
It was the same girl who I found making out with Logan in the laundry room the other day.
"Tara!" Mrs Williams called, eyes gazing at the woman.
"Whatever could be the reason for you arriving late?" She queried
"Is everything alright?" She added
"Yes ma'am" Ms Tara responded at once, voice barely audible.
"I was down with a cold, so I couldn't make it early"
"I had to bring my daughter along with me here"
Daughter?
Miss Tara's daughter?
Was that what she just said?
No wonder she looked so familiar. Now I could see the resemblance, staring at the two stood side by side.
Logan stole glances every now and then at the girl, turning his gaze away for just a moment, and then fixing it back on her figure.
"How are you, Arabella?" I heard Mrs Williams utter, eyes peering at the girl.
"I'm very well, ma'am" Followed her response, a bright smile beautifying her face.
"Good"
"Make yourself comfortable."
My eyes rested on Logan, watching as he gazed on at Arabella, while the figure of his mother proceeded out of the room.
Why were they both acting like they didn't know each other?
I'm pretty sure I saw them kissing and groping, the other day in the laundry room, yet here they were acting like strangers, secretly throwing gazes at one another.
Logan quickly muttered something to his twin, Tyler, right before he turned, leaving the room.
What was it with everyone walking out?
"Let's all begin working" I heard miss Tara call out to all the maids, gaining every of our attention, ordering for our chores to commence.
I joined Denna as we all filed into the kitchen, Arabella tagging right behind.
The rest of the maids began doing their chores. Some went watering the plants in the gardens, others went wherever they were assigned to.
It was just Mary and I left over here in the kitchen, and as usual I assisted in cooking the meals.
Dicing vegetables just as instructed by Mary, I focused my my gaze on the chopping board, making sure my fingers wouldn't make the list on the ingredients to be used.
"Hey" I heard someone call from behind me.
Turning around, only to find Arabella stood feet away, peering on at my figure.
"I'm Arabella" She muttered to me in a low voice, her gaze faltering for a second.
"Do you need any help? I could help with the vegetables, if you want"
"Thanks. But you need not worry, It's what I get paid to do" I uttered to her, while resuming cutting the vegetables.
"Okay" I heard her mutter softly.
Silence followed.
Her figure stood away from mine, while I went on with what I was doing"
"About what you saw the other day" She began, voice low.
My back was turned to her, still, I made sure I paid much attention to her utterance.
"Logan and I...we're"
I turned to look at her, noticing how she struggled to find the right words.
"It's alright, I won't say anything to anyone" I relieved her of the stress.
She fell silent, staring on at my figure, perhaps reading past my expression.
"Thanks"
Her voice came out weak, barely pronounced.
Returning her utterance with a smile, my gaze rested on her.
"I'm Nia, by the way" I made known.
She at once without uttering a word, moved over to me, giving me a hug which I wasn't expecting.
My arms fell stiff, while I just remained there letting her embrace me.
Pulling back, a smile grew on her lips.
One so warm.
Only now could I tell how much beautiful the girl was.
Eyes a beautiful shade, lips, plump and rosy. I see no reason why Logan kept their relationship a secret.
***
At the hour of the midday sun retreating into a cloud, signaling the come of dusk, I was done with all of my chores, done cleaning all of the rooms, excluding the one room I forbade entering ever again, deciding it would be best if I stayed away from his room.
"Don't you think it's time we told everyone about our relationship. It's been a secret for so long"
I heard voices coming from one of the room in the halls.
Faint and barely audible, yet I could make out the words.
Moving over to the door where the voices came from, I fixed my ears closer, my curiosity pitching in.
"I want nothing more than to tell everyone about us, but we just can't."
I recognised the voice at once.
"We have to keep it a secret, just for now. Eventually, they'll all find out"
I knew straight away it could only be Logan, perhaps conversing with Arabella.
Why did he choose to keep the relationship a secret?
What exactly was I missing?
Moving my figure away from the door, I decided whatever was said was no concern of mine.
I turned around in the other direction, taking my leave, ready to end work for the day.
