Chereads / Maid To Bea / Chapter 16 - 16

Chapter 16 - 16

Sunday went by so quick, and then came Monday, resumption of work, resumption of aches and worries.

I got to the Williams mansion earlier than usual. The house being eerily silent upon my entrance.

Not a single figure could be seen around.

Grabbing my apron from the rack where it was hung, I commenced my round of duties.

Few of the maids, I spotted roaming around getting one thing done or the other.

An hour in, and I still didn't hear the voice of Ms Tara yammering about one thing or the other. If it wasn't the floors not properly scrubbed, it would be the walls bearing stains.

Maybe, just maybe she had decided to give it all a rest on this fine Monday. Very unlikely of her.

The sound of a car pulling up in the driveway, got me peering out through the window of the living room, wanting to check on whoever it was.

Realizing it could be Mrs Williams who had returned home, I hurried up with the dusting, hastening up at once.

The door tore open, and next came in a figure.

Cameron.

Eyes scanning the room, and quickly resting them on me.

His brows furrowed, his fingers scratching at his forehead.

Seemingly ignoring me and was about ascending the stairs, when another car pulled into the driveway. My eyes at once took a peep out, and this time, it turned out to be Mr and Mrs Williams.

My gaze shifted to the figure of Cameron, hurrying over to the window, panic crossing his eyes the instant he saw the figures of his parents.

"Crap" He muttered under his breath, backing away from the window, and then moving over to the dining area to stay out of sight.

Mr and Mrs Williams proceeded in few seconds later. The heels worn over the feet of Mrs Williams, clicking as she made her way in.

"Isn't that Cameron's car in the driveway?" I heard her utter to her husband, while her eyes searched around the living room.

"He better not be home, else, he'll be grounded for real" Mr Williams responded in a low voice, walking up the stairs, perhaps going on a search for his son.

"Did Cameron return home?" Mrs Williams questioned Denna the moment she stepped into the living room.

Thank God the question wasn't for me, seeing as to how I probably would have said something which would cause Cameron hating me even more.

"I haven't seen him" Denna gave a quick response.

From where I stood, I could see his figure peeping from the dining area, eyes gazing at his mother.

"Good" Mrs Williams uttered right before walking away.

"Ms Tara would like us all to hurry with the chores" Denna announced to me.

Oh, so the lady was around after all. How peaceful the house had been despite her presence.

"I'll be in the kitchen" Denna spoke, right before leaving the room.

"For no reason must they find out I'm here"

The figure of Cameron appeared in the living room, pacing around.

The worry on his face was much evident, I took notice of it. Not like I cared at all.

He took a stop suddenly, eyes peering at my figure, yet, I acted like I didn't see him, not until he began moving over to where I stood.

"Hey." I heard his annoying smooth voice.

Turning to him, my eyes finally matched his, both our gazes locking.

"Talking to me?" I questioned.

It came as a shock hearing him speak to me, even more shocking that his utterances weren't forced, or uttered in yells.

"Look, I need your help" He began, voice low.

"I need you to take me to your house" I stared blankly at him, the words sinking into my ears.

"Just for a couple of hours.... I need to go there, just so they won't suspect I came home" He said all at once.

Was he being serious or was this all a joke?

No way would let a stranger into my home. And yes, I consider Cameron a stranger.

I hesitated to speak, just watching him with much confusion ascribed to my expression.

"I don't think I can let you in my house" I responded, my eyes staring at his figure.

"I mean, I barely know you, except from the fact that I work here"

Silence ensued.

"Since I began working here, not for once have you uttered anything not-rude to me, and all of a sudden, you want my help"

Oh, Lord"

"Are you seriously doing this right now?" He questioned, brows furrowing.

"I'm sorry, but I just can't let you go to my house." I spoke, turning my eyes away from him.

"You seem to be forgetting that you owe me" He muttered in a low voice, his words causing my finger gripping tightly to the duster held in my grip.

I dug my nails into it hard, almost resulting in an injury.

Turning to look at him, I heard him speak.

"You have no say in this, Nia. You have to take me to your house"

Yet again, the way he pronounced my name, remained so pulling.

"If I do this for you" I began, eyes following his "Does it mean I'd no longer owe you?" I asked immediately, wanting to be sure I was doing the right thing, which I wasn't.

"Yeah." He whispered.

I really wanted to be free of his unjust taunts.

For a moment, I thought he would request something impossible from me. I mean, who could tell? He remains Cameron Williams, after all.

But instead, this was something much easy.

Finally agreeing to it, yet, I had no idea what to tell Miss Tara.

What excuse could I come up with that wouldn't result in me getting yelled at or spat on.

"Can we go now?" I heard the voice of Cameron.

"I--I don't know what to tell Ms Tara." I said to him.

"Just tell her your mom called or something." He uttered without looking my way, his figure already advancing towards the door.

Wow, so eager to leave. Wasn't he?

I left the living room at once, going into the kitchen, to spew out a lie and put up an act I prayed would be hard to see past.

After going through different excuses, pondering on what to tell Miss Tara, I finally came up with a lie

The one excuse common amongst girls-- I informed her my 'monthly visitor' had arrived and I just had to go home cause my legs were already turning weak.

She believed me at once,  dismissing me for the day.

Of course, it worked. It always does.

Getting outside the house I found a worried Cameron stood there.

"What took you so long?" He half yelled, half whispered.

"I had to come up with lies. Lies that were hard to come up with." I replied back.

"What did you tell her?" I heard him question, his eyes peering at my figure.

"I don't think you should that" I responded.

He said nothing else, instead, he began walking away.

I remained where I stood not moving a step, just standing there watching as he moved further away.

"What are you doing? Come on" I heard his voice call from where he was, just as he took a stop, while peering back at my figure stood still.

"I thought you knew the way, since you were taking the lead."

At this point, I knew very well I was only pissing him off, and I just so much enjoyed every moment of it.

"Can we leave already?" He yelped frustratedly.

Not uttering any other word to him, I began leading the way.

We walked side by side, not muttering a word to each other. Instead, he texted on his phone,  probably texting one of his friends or perhaps it was his girlfriend, Savannah.

Thinking of it, why didn't he go to any of their houses?

Oh that's right. Cause they had to be in school, unlike him.

Taking a glance at him, I noticed how focused he was on the cell held in his hands. He acted like there wasn't a person beside him.

Deciding to stick to my own business, I resumed walking, silence englobing the spaces between our figures.
