I walked into the class, avoiding eye contact with anyone as their peering eyes kept boring holes into my body. I felt uneasy as I walked to the back, taking a seat there.
You might guess what's going on. Mum brought me to a new school which is totally different from my last school. Cuz it's high school. I've always dreamt of being here and now I'm her for real but I never thought it'd be like this; no Reece, no Katie, no Carl. I guess this might be boring for me.
"Hi"
"Uhmm... hi"
"I'm Eunice"
"Alexis"
"What sort of a name is Alexis?"
Who doesn't know the name Alexis?
"Well, what sort of a question is that?"
She looked at me weirdly as she made an 'oh' sound "nice to meet you, anyway"
"You too"
"Hey"
Oh! I wish I could get invisible right now. Are they taking turns??
"Hey too"
He smiled "name?"
"Why do you care?"
"Just asking, by the way... I'm Dexter"
"Alexis"
"Nice name"
My cheeks flushed pink "thanks" I smiled.
He sat on the desk "so, may I know...."
A lady walked in, interrupting him "Oh shit! History" he muttered, walking away.
"Who are you, pretty? That's my seat"
"Oh! Sorry"
"Well, we could pair for now" he sat.
"I'm..."
"Can you stop talking, Jayden?" the supposed history teacher warned.
He rolled his eyes "I'm sorry"
"And why are you with him? Are you his new chic?"
"Oh boy!" I muttered, under my breath.
"You can't talk?"
What was I supposed to say?
"She's a newbie" the Dexter boy explained.
"So, is she dumb?"
Oh Jeez! I hate her already.
"Y'know, History classes sucks!" Jayden whispered "she uses most of her time making fun of us" he explained further.
"Pretty but a jerk" I mumbled.
"Perfect word" I giggled.
"Well, come up and introduce yourself to us" she smiled, revealing her fine white teeth.
I walked up to the front of the class.
"I'm Alexis Simpson"
"Alexis? Well, I'm Miss Bailey"
I just smiled.
"History" she added.
"Oh!" I walked back to sit with Jayden.
"Why him?" she asked.
I couldn't reply.
"Don't you think you should answer that question?"
"Uhmm... I..." I scratched my head as the bell rang, interrupting.
"Thank goodness" I sighed as she hurriedly picked her book and left.
"Is she always like that?"
He nodded "most times"
"What next?"
"Break"
"So, I'm late?"
"That's not important, I wish we could just sit together all the time"
"You mean?"
"Ignore it, there's an empty seat right there" he pointed.
Oh no! I'm in the middle of the Eunice girl and a weird looking boy.
"Doesn't look good"
"I know, right?"
..................................................................................
"Alex"
"Oh! It's you"
"Yeah, what do you intend on doing right now?"
"Just read this book"
He rolled his eyes "you don't have anything better to do?"
"Like what, Dexter?"
"Know more about each other?"
"I don't think that's necessary"
"C'mon" he made a cute face.
"Okay, fine"
"Your favorite colour?"
"Actually..."
"Let me guess, you don't like pink"
I gasped. Could he have read my diary? "How did you know?"
"I'm a wizard"
"That's a joke, right?"
"Nope, it's certainly not"
"Great" I sighed.
"Your address?"
"You're a wizard, you should know"
"Well, I used up my powers finding out you don't like pink. So, tell me"
"I'm not doing that"
"Fine" he sighed.
"Uhmmm... I have to go now"
"What do you have?"
"Economics"
"Oh! Let me take you there" he offered.
"Thanks"
..................................................................................
I sat on my bed, thoughts of Dexter flushed into my head. I prefer Jayden though but he wasn't really giving me the attention I needed.
"Why am I thinking of him?"
I picked up my diary. I scribbled 'Dexter' in it. And I designed 'Jayden'. I smiled.
My phone beeped and I glanced at the screen.
"Dexter?"
"How?" I tapped it.
A message popped up and it read 'Hey, can we meet at the chocolate bar tomorrow by four? Deal?'
I bit my lip slightly and sighed, not like I don't like him but I think I like Jayden more. What if Jayden doesn't give me the attention I seek. I mean, he's handsomier, lovelier, funnier. If I ignore Dexter now and Jayden isn't interested in me then I'd be left with no one.
I replied 'Hey too, how did you get my number? Deal:)'
He replied 'thanks and see you tomorrow'. I dropped my phone on the nightstand and sprawled on my bed, scattering the well laid sheets. I hadn't thought high school would be like this, more interesting than ever. I guess this'd be my 'first date', that's if it's actually a date.
..................................................................................
I walked through the crowded hallway, clutching my diary close to my chest as I scanned the area with my eyes, looking for either Jayden or Dexter.
Just then, this cute, dark curly haired handsome guy bumped into me. I'd have gotten angry but his face consoled my anger. Worst part is, my diary fell and the page I designed Jayden's name flipped open and he picked it.
"Wow! Jayden right?"
"Just give it back" I demanded.
"Make me" he walked away and I walked after him.
"Please, give it back"
"Fine" he tore out the page and dropped my diary on the floor. Why are cute guys so annoying? This guy is getting me annoyed, honestly. I picked up my diary and kept following him.
"Please"
"What? I gave it back, didn't I?"
"The paper you tore off"
"What paper?"
"Stop fooling around and give to me"
"Jayden must see it first"
"Buh..."
He waved and raced off, I couldn't catch up with him. On my way to class, someone yelled my name and I didn't answer. she tapped me and I turned. It was the Eunice girl.
"Hey" I managed to say, dryly.
She gave a smile, which was awkward though. I never thought she would ever talk to me but here she is, taking my hand in hers.
"What are you up to?"
"Nothing really"
"Ok then" she smiled.
I smiled back.
When we got to class, I decide to avoid Jayden as best as I could. I was working till break, he came to me and sat on my desk.
"Hey sweetie"
"What?"
"You've been avoiding me, so I came to talk to you"
"Is it necessary?"
"Yes. Or I'd fall sick"
I blushed a little "well, I'm just knowing"
"I heard a little gist"
Oh no! It shouldn't be "What?"
He gave me the sheet of paper.
"Nice artwork though"
I sighed, using my palms to straighten the sheet of paper. I avoided his eyes.
"So, you have something for me?"
I rolled my eyes "just forget it, Jayden"
"Just tell me, sweetie"
"Look, I..."
Eunice came with cheeseballs "care for some?" she gave me one
"Thanks" I opened the sachet.
"I'd prefer popcorn" he took one from her.
She rolled her eyes "not that you asked for it or something"
He laughed "but I'm just..."
Dexter walked up to us, worry written all over his face.
"Hey yo" Jayden smirked.
He ignored him "Alex, we need to talk"
"Why?"
"None of your business, Jayden" he shot.
"Ohh! I see" he chuckled.
"We need to talk" he retorted.
"Okay, I'm listening"
"In private"
"Why private?"
"Stop it, Jayden" I stood up, flashing him a smile before leaving.
"Don't be long"
"Okay"
After pulling me to the locker room, he pinned me to the wall. I tried to pull away but his grip was too tight and it didn't seem like he'd let go anytime soon.
"Dexter, what's your problem?"
"So, you actually like Jayden?"
I laughed "is that why you pulled me here?"
"Answer"
"Well, I do but..."
"But what?"
"Let me go, first"
He released me and I massaged my arm, slowly "who told you that?"
"Almost everyone knows about it"
"Seriously?"
"Of course, yes"
"I actually don't have an explanation to that but..." I patted his shoulder "see you at the chocolate bar" I winked, walking out.
When I got back to class, Eunice was doing Math and Jayden was writing lord knows what? I went to my desk and buried my head in a novel.
Soon the bell rang for Geography.
