Chapter 30 - Tasks V: Paideia/ Chased Down part 2 (Extended)

The HPA agents all heard what happened to Drey over the agents mic, a loud high pitched screech was sent through the mic before it was suddenly cut off.

They heard Kyle's voice and from the seeming distorted tone and that odd feeling in their bones they knew it was the vampires.

"You heard that, Drey was the one who took the nurse. Which means the gear actually works against them!" D124 said as sped up on his motorcycle.

"They were in Elmhurst, do any of you still have an eye on them? Can you confirm that the bullet actually worked?" S201 said into the earpiece as he was right behind D124.

"Yes, the bullet worked. One of the Vampires are Drey while following behind another. I can't see their white hair but based on their movements you can tell, they aren't human." The agent in the helicopter said as he followed behind Kyle and Melissa.

"Can you tell us which direction they are going?" S201 asked.

"They are in Middle Village." The agent said.

"Alright, this is it. Well close down on them and make sure they can't escape Brooklyn. This ab order from the lead agent- D124. You are free to kill the servants but we must capture the master." D124 ordered through his mic. "Well put an end to them today-" before he could finish that thought he saw two figures land right beside him.

*SCREEEECH!*

He drove past them but turned his motorcycle to the side to see what was behind him, however just as he did the cars on the street were suddenly driving out of control trying not to hit something but they couldn't tell what it was as the cars blocked the way.

"What the hell is going on." S201 said as he saw some cars spinning out of control.

"The vampires caused the cars to go out of control. One of the cars crashed into them. We have them surrounded but the cars will make it hard for us to get to them." S221 said as she was staring at them with her gun pointed at Melissa.

Kyle stopped the car from crashing into Melissa and Drey, using his shoulder as a shield. The car gave his skin a few scratches however the impact hit his muscles like a hammer. Leaving a sharp pain, that made it hard to move his right arm.

They both noticed agent S221 aiming at them and immediately began to run away through the cars. Hoping to use the commotion as a distraction to get away but the helicopter was still chasing them.

"The vampires are getting away, I'm going to follow them. Anyone who can should continue as well. They are currently on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Going towards Brooklyn." S221 said as she started her motorcycle and started driving after them.

"Me and agent S201 will catch up to you later, we need to find a way around this commotion." D124 said as he started driving towards another street.

Melissa and Kyle were slower than usual with the damages they suffered and with Drey having to be carried, it's making it harder for Melissa to climb. They resort to running on the highway to find a subway station that leads to Manhattan.

"Are you okay, my lord?" Melissa asked as she saw how limp his arm was.

"I'll be fine, we need to hurry up and find some place to hide for a while. Do you have any idea.?" As Kyle kept his eyes averted from Drey.

"Alright, I can still feel his heartbeat, and his brain. It's still active, he can still hear us and he still has thoughts running through his head." Melissa said as he moved closer to them.

"Good, did you see that bullet? It looked like silver but it smells different." Kyle asked as he looked behind him.

He saw a few car lights, he could tell they were following the helicopter.

"It's most likely silver, but I'm not sure it smells like it was dunked in a mixture of herbs." Melissa asked as she saw him running towards the edge of the highway.

"Can you tell what's in the mixture?" Kyle asked as he jumped off the highway.

"It'll take some time for me to separate the smell but if it's poisonous then I may be able to make an antidote or at least a neutralizer for him." Melissa said as she landed behind him.

As they landed, an HPA squad immediately surrounded them.

"Drey is currently unconscious and Melissa is

carrying him so she can't protect herself." Kyle quickly began to think about his current position.

"The ANM can't risk being followed by the HPA so until we lose them, they can't help us. So I have to get us out of this." The realization made his blood rush. The pain in his shoulder is finally gone so he could move both of his arms as he likes.

He looked all around him trying to figure out what to do without wasting too much time on them. He didn't look for too long as he laid eyes on Melissa's face, covered in worry although she's holding herself together.

That look gave him another rush and finally. He sees them. "Follow my lead." He didn't have to say a word as she already knew what he was thinking just before looked away.

The HPA quickly lifted their guns but Kyle disappeared. Not even their gear was able to tell where he went.

*TDHOM* Kyle reappeared landing a drop kick on one of the agents, kicking him off of his bike before he grabbed the steering wheel and pulled himself to the seat.

Just less than a second later, Melissa sat behind with Drey in between- she adjusted him so she can hold onto Kyle without losing grip on him.

Two blurry figures led her eyes to the motorcycle but it only clicked for her after they got on the motorcycle. "THEY'RE-" her reaction was too slow and the other HPA agents only saw them once it was too late. Kyle drove off, thankfully the motorcycle wasn't off because any second later they would've been filled with holes.

However the agents were quickly right back on their tail. "They're off the expressway and heading towards Bedford Stuyvesant ." One of the agents shouted as they didn't miss a beat and began chasing the vampires once again. "Agent S235 is out of commission on Rodney st. The vampire took his motorcycle and Squad 4 is still chasing them."

Kyle and Melissa are still completely focused on getting away from the HPA but after they drove past multiple blocks, he began to realize something very important.

"I can still hear the helicopter. It's right above us, we need to lose it." Kyle said as he saw an intersection.

"We need to get under something like a bridge or a tunnel." Melissa said as she tightened her hold on Drey.

"You're right! We were supposed to go back to the tunnel in sunnyside but I forgot. I'm not sure which way it is either." Kyle quickly remembered what David told him. "Oh shit. Do you remember what train tracks are connected to the tunnel?" Kyle asked

"Yeah, the gray line, green line, brown line and the blue line. I'm not sure which trains those are but those are the lines that are connected to the tunnel." Melissa said as she saw multiple vans appear just a block away from them.

"Grey line is the L train, then the G, J is brown and the blue ones are the A, C and E train but I'm not sure where we are exactly right now but I know we are already in Brooklyn which is in the opposite direction of Sunnyside." Kyle said as he saw a corner they could turn on just ahead of them.

Just as Kyle reached that corner, he tried to turn the motorcycle as smooth as he could but he quickly lost control and made the front wheel hit the curb causing the motorcycle to flip. It tossed them off but slid across the street and into a store.

Melissa was able to save herself and Drey by quickly grabbing onto him before the motorcycle flipped and barreled rolled with her body wrapped around his to protect him.

Kyle broke his fall with his forearms to keep his head protected.

He immediately stood up and ran towards them. "I wasn't able to turn it but are you okay?" Concerned as he didn't expect the motorcycle to flip like that.

"Yeah, we are but we need to keep going, my lord." Melissa said as she stood while holding Drey.

"Right." Kyle said as he began to look around.

He saw a street sign that read "Grand St." The sign was on the other end of the block and Kyle ran towards it with Melissa following behind him. Hoping he would see the entrance to one of the stations.

He hadn't even noticed how empty the streets were until he reached that corner.

They started hearing a separate helicopter approaching from a few miles ahead of them.

*Ring Ring*

"Hello?" Kyle answered as he started running down the street, while signaling for Melissa to follow him as he saw an entrance to one of the underground train stations.

"Why didn't you go to Sunnyside?" David asked as soon as he answered.

"I couldn't, I tried to lose them first but we ended up losing our way. Drey got shot by-" Kyle said before he saw multiple motorcycles turn the corner just ahead of him.

"I told you not to fight them, Shit! Where are you?" David asked before he heard multiple gunshots coming from the other side of the call. "Hello?"

*THUD* "Oh crap. That was close, are you okay, did you get hit?." Kyle asked as he was breathing heavily, although it wasn't because he was out of breath.

"KYLE!" Christian's voice hit like a bell, as he was trying to get his attention.

"What?" Kyle said in a jumpy tone.

"Where are you?" Christian asked as he started looking at the map of tunnels.

"Ummmmm, We're at Grand st." Kyle said as he ran past a wall that had the train station's name labeled in the middle.

"Which train?" Christian asked as he took the laptop from David.

"The vampires have been spotted going into the Grand street, L train. It seems like they are trying to get away from the CICA, we'll get back to you once they resurface however we advise you to stay off the L train and out of danger-" The small tv was turned down as the captains tried to listen in on what Kyle was saying.

"Head towards Manhattan, if you can't get out at Union Square then head to the last stop. We'll see where Jeremy is so they could possibly pick you up somewhere." Christian said.

"Alright…. Wait, what about Drey? Will you be able to help him?" Kyle asked urgently.

"There's a small chance but don't worry about that for now. Just keep running." Christian said.

Kyle couldn't accept that. "A small chance?" He thought as he looked back at Drey, who was unconscious and not showing any signs of waking.

He felt this overwhelming sense of failure from allowing Drey to get hurt. He couldn't pinpoint exactly why he felt this way, even if there was a small chance of the ANM being able to help him, he couldn't risk the loss of Drey.

*Click.*

"Hello? Kyle?…." Christian questioned as he couldn't hear the other end. "That fucking idiot!"

"The call probably lost signal when he got into the tunnel." David said. "He'll let us know when he reaches Manhattan." He finished before he started calling Jeremy.

"We were being followed but we lost them before we got into the tunnel but I'm gonna go through a different exit just in case so it may take longer to get to Manhattan." Jeremy said once he answered.

"Kyle's team is already in the Manhattan tunnel so you probably won't have enough time for that." David said as he checked the digital map.

"Alright. I'll let you know when I get there." Jeremy said before he hung up.

"Damn it. Have some of the agents prepare the vans. We can't allow one of our own members to be captured." Gabriel said as in an irritated tone to the lieutenant standing near the door.

"No! Don't tell them anything yet. We can't just send out our agents out there blindly against the HPA. Even if it's Captain." David said which confused the lieutenant.

"We'll kill them if we have to. Becoming the enemy of the state or country is no problem with me. You should understand this by now, as the 2nd captain of the ANM." Gabriel argued.

"Even so, we can't fight back if they have us surrounded and outnumbered, we'll die. If not all of us than most of us. We'll fall right back to square one." David said as he began to lose his temper.

"That hasn't been a problem before. If you're saying we should just let them deal with the CICA themselves…." "YOU SEE HOW MANY AGENTS THEY DEPLOYED FOR THIS." Gabriel's temper although it was short, it was only ever for his agents.

"Exactly, that many fucking agents is more than what we have. So calm the fuck down and start thinking straight." David said as he started to calm himself down. "All we can do for now is wait. We can help them later."

Nearly two hours went by since Kyle went quiet, the ANM weren't sure whether or not they lost signal with him or if he tossed his earpiece. Jeremy couldn't leave for Manhattan yet as the CICA had temporarily closed all entrances or exits to the borough. Even the tunnel that was hidden from the public's eye was on lock.

"Damn it, we might have to blow our cover and go right through them." Jeremy said as he rested his head on the steering wheel.

"That doesn't seem right." His lieutenant said as he looked around.

They were parked right next to Lorimer's "L" train station, hoping that Kyle would probably appear and they could find a way back to the ANM base.

*Knock* a singular knock on the window as if a rock was thrown.

They ignored it however. Until it appeared again, which caught their attention, they quickly opened the back doors and then sped off.

*Ring ring*

"Are you in Manhattan yet?" David asked once he answered.

"No but I got Kyle and the other two with me. Also Drey looks like shit, I haven't seen them like this before, he's pale." Jeremy said as he saw him through the rear view mirror.

"They are still in Brooklyn? We should have sum medical vans in Brooklyn transfer him to one of those and make your way to the tunnel." David said.

"I'm already heading to one of them now. Can you see anyone following us?" Jeremy asked.

"I don't see anyone following you right now so just continue on your way. Make sure they're in separate vans." David said as he checked the laptop.

"Right, I'll let you know when we get there." Jeremy said before he hung up…. "That's nasty." Jeremy said as he looked back at them.

"It was the only way we were gonna get through. No one messes with the homeless in the station." Kyle said as he pulled the dirty tarp off of their heads.

"You better not get his wound infected with that shit." Jeremy said.

"Of course, I put something over it." Kyle said.

Over half an hour passed, they finally made it to their medical vehicle where they transported Drey into. Melissa and the Lieutenant stayed with him in that van while Kyle and Jeremy stayed in the other.

They were in one of the low maintenance parts of south Brooklyn, where the buildings were much to look at and trash was everywhere. They kept the medical vehicle ahead.

"How long has that car been following us?" Kyle asked as he noticed a black car had been following them for a while ever since they transferred Drey.

"I'm not sure." Jeremy said as he started calling the lieutenant.

[Present]

"Right we'll split and head to a different tunnel." The lieutenant said before he hung up and quickly turned.

*Ring Ring.*

"WAIT WATCH OU-" Kyle only saw it at the last minute.

The black van which came rushing towards them. *CRASH* The car went flipping out of control and crashing into one of the broken down buildings.

"Finally." D124 said as he got out of his car. "Surround them." He said as he pulled a large rifle out of the car.

"Someone's van was hit, they're being surrounded!!!" Urie said as she saw a vehicle being surrounded by red dots on the tablet.

"What? Who was it?!" Gabriel said as if his heart sunk.

"AGGGGGHHHH-" A scream of utter pain heard from one of the mics but they couldn't tell which it was until a vague voice was heard in the back.

"K-Kyl-" Jeremy's earpiece was now broken as he pushed his arm closer. "I can't let them have any trace of me, so I'll give you everything you need to survive." He thought as he stuck his forearm into Kyle's mouth.

Jeremy made sure Kyle's teeth sank into his skin, and as the blood dripped into his mouth. He woke up, wanting to stop, he understood what Jeremy was thinking.

*THUD* *THUD* The ANM agents forced the door open to see Kyle with blood all over his face and Jeremy's arm sunken to the skin.

"Finally, we got you." D124 said as the door finally opened.

Kyle only relayed one message to his servants with the urgency to only protect themselves. "STAY AWAY."

To be continued.
