"I promised you I'd summon your spirit once I regained my strength. It takes time for your soul to remember me. But don't be scared." Ciaran approached her more closely.
Delilah stood up, holding her head. She was disoriented and dazed.
"Why have you brought me here? "How did you do?"
He went to comfort her, but Delilah stepped back.
"Stay away from me, this makes no sense. "Who are you?"
"I'm not going to hurt you, Mortala, it's me Ciaran, your soulmate."
As memories rushed through her mind, she held her head in pain and fell to her knees. The agony was brought on by unbearable memories from thousands of years ago.
Ciaran knelt beside her, attempting to help her. She raised her head to look at him.
"Ciaran? "I remember," she said as tears streamed down her cheeks.
Ciaran hugged her but couldn't feel her even though she was in his arms, he was overcome with pain.
"I've waited centuries to hold you, and now that you remember me, I can't feel you," Ciaran lamented.
"This is all my fault, if I could remember when I wake up, if there was a way to make me remember these meetings with you."
"Sadly, there is not, the only one who can free me is Lance the immortal, but he has shrouded his spirit no doubt hiding from spiritual entities who would seek him out for his gifts."
"I must find a way; I cannot bear the thought of you being alone. Imprisoned by Death, all these years alone. While I have lived, experienced life."
"No, do not do that, do not blame yourself. We must have faith that one day we will find our way back to each other."
Delilah cried, feeling her heart shatter into a thousand pieces, Ciaran hated seeing his Mortala this way.
"How do you have the power to call my spirit here?"
"It is Somnium, the mistress of the astral realm, she granted me this power to be able to communicate with you in the world of Dreams. I pleaded my case to her; she is against what Mori has done to us. Although she has no power in the Nether Realm, she has granted me access to her realm so I may have a way to connect to you."
"Oh Ciaran, my love. You've suffered greatly and it's all my fault." She wept, seeing him suffer this way broke her heart. And she was powerless to help him.
"Now dearest, enough of those tears, tell me about this lifetime. Did you get to be reincarnated into an amazing family, what are your parents like and do you have any siblings.?"
He couldn't bring himself to ask if she had any lovers in this lifetime. The agony of knowing his Mortala was carrying another in her heart was unbearable.
Delilah wiped her tears and smiled at him; "lucky me I did get reincarnated into an amazing family, my father is a wonderful man, very supportive, and from the moment I was born he has given me everything he could within his resources. My mother is also an incredible woman who, despite being critical at times, loves me to the best of her ability. Unfortunately, I am an only child, but my life has been one of privilege and contentment. Although one thing is missing: you."
Delilah spoke with a sadness that had returned to her eyes. The cottage was rocked by the sound of thunder.
"What's that? Delilah asked, looking around frantically.
"That's your spirit being called back to your body, time to wake up to your present reality," Ciaran answered with his voice laced with pain.
"No, I don't want to go Ciaran, I can't leave you. please."
"Listen to me, Mori now resides on earth, no doubt to find you. You must be very careful of every man. I don't know what form he has taken but he will find you. And he will do everything to keep us apart."
"He will fail because my heart is already yours. I will never love another as I love you Ciaran. In this lifetime and every other that follows, I am yours and you are mine." Delilah cried as she uttered those words to him. The pain of separation was too great to bear. The longer she remained in the astral realm, the more she remembered her lifetimes with Ciaran, they had been together since they were created. they had found each other in every world, in every skin they had loved each other.
"Do not cry my love, I know our love is eternal. I promise my love we will meet again, once you wake up you will forget this but I promise you once I build up my strength, I will call your spirit here. I know it's not optimal but let's try to see the good in our circumstances. Being able to see each other again is more than I could hope for. Let's cherish that we have this, do not give up hope or be sad. We'll be together again, But for now, you must awaken. Until we meet again my love" said Ciaran as he leaned in to kiss her. She closed her eyes as their faces drew nearer.
There was darkness then Delilah awakened to the sound of Kim's voice.
