Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 : The day before the battle

Edmund was discussing the future of the elves with Nishley, when she asked him if he was ready to take care of the elves. Edmund replied that he didn't know yet, but Nishley answered.

"I will," she replied resolutely.

"To tell you the truth, I've already positioned myself as a goddess among the elves on the sly, do you mind?" said Nishley, in a nervous tone.

Edmund was a little surprised by Nishley's initiative and finally agreed to let Nishley position herself as a goddess of the elves.

Nishley seemed satisfied with his answer and decided to follow Elwynn home, a young elf who was training to master the power of life, a unique ability given by the world system.

They arrived outside Elwynn's room and Nishley used her faith magic to make herself invisible. She followed Elwynn as she trained in secret, hiding so as not to be seen.

However, at one point, Nishley decided to materialise before Elwynn. She appeared before her, divinely beautiful and mystical.

Elwynn had returned home after a busy day at school. Her mother, who was waiting for her at the door, greeted her with a warm smile.

"How was your day, dear?" she asked.

"Tired, but successful," replied Elwynn with a satisfied smile. "I managed to learn a lot at school, I didn't think our race had such a glorious history!"

"That's true ? I'm proud of you, keep up the good work at school my girl," her mother said, giving her a hug.

After eating, Elwynn went to her room and closed the door behind her. She began to practice using her unique ability, the power of life, which she had recently obtained from the world system. She concentrated deeply, trying to channel the mystical energy within her.

Within minutes of practicing, things materialized in front of me.

Elwynn gasped as Nishley suddenly appeared before her. She stepped back hastily, her hand over her racing heart. She had always been a person of faith, but she had never believed in the manifestation of gods or goddesses.

"Who are you?" she asked, trying to hide the fear in her voice.

Nishley smiled, understanding Elwynn's confusion. "My child, do not fear. I am Nishley, goddess of the heavens and stars. I am here to help you."

Elwynn was stunned. A goddess? In front of her? It was impossible. But she could not deny Nishley's presence, who emanated a divinely mystical aura.

Nishley held out her hand to Elwynn. "Danger is coming, you must be strong. I will give you some of my power. Use it wisely."

Elwynn remained silent, her mouth ajar, not knowing what to say or do.

Nishley smiled again, then disappeared into a golden mist. Elwynn was left alone, puzzled and unsure of what had just happened.

In the palace of the Elven Queen.

Eryndor Elfheim was angry, frustrated and distraught. "Those bastard elven savage tribes! Betraying us, their own races by leading monsters towards us and taking advantage of this threat to create their own kingdoms!" The situation was unacceptable and something had to be done quickly. The main leaders of the Elven Council were meeting in his council chamber, all with a grave and disgruntled expression on their faces.

"We should be attacking these barbaric tribes who know no civility!" said one leader, banging fiercely on the large oak table.

"No! We should concentrate on the monster horde coming towards us!" shouted another leader.

"Your majesty, we need to act quickly. The other elven tribes have already started to form alliances and build their kingdoms, they don't respect our supreme authority", declared one of the leaders.

Eryndor raised a hand to silence them, then rose from her throne and took a few steps forward. She was an elegant and majestic woman, with silver hair and deep green eyes. She wore a white silk dress that made her look even more graceful.

"I am fully aware of the situation, gentlemen. That is why I have called this meeting. But the question is: what can we do? We can't force them to stop forming alliances, that would only make the situation worse, we are now busy protecting our people unaware of the danger that is coming," she replied with a sigh.

The leaders exchanged worried glances with each other, each trying to find a solution.

Suddenly a guard opened the door wide and rushed into the council chamber. He looked breathless and panicked.

"Your Majesty, the monster horde is approaching our kingdom! We need reinforcements and to prepare our defences!" he shouted.

Eryndor froze, realising that the situation was far worse than she had imagined. She turned to the Elven leaders.

"We must put aside our differences for now. Our priority must be to protect our kingdom. Lead our troops to defend our people and our land. We will fight together against this horde of monsters," she declared with determination.

The leaders nodded, all aware that the situation was critical and that they had to act quickly. They rushed out of the council chamber, ready to organise the defence of the kingdom.

Eryndor sighed and fell back on her throne. She knew this battle would be difficult, but she was determined to protect her people, even if it meant putting aside the feuds with the other elven tribes.

An hour later.

The elven inhabitants were all gathered in the large central square of the capital, listening carefully to the words of their queen Eryndor. Faces were tense and worried, some even trembling with fear.

For the only time in history that the queen had asked everyone to gather in the central square of the capital, it was to announce the great battle against the monsters to drive them out of the area where Elvandar is now located.

When the queen announced the imminent arrival of a full-scale attack, a wave of panic ran through the crowd. Screams and cries rang through the air as people pressed against each other, seeking comfort and safety.

"An attack?!"

"What do you mean? An attack coming towards the capital? Aren't we normally in a safe zone?!"

"We are going to die!"

"-SHUT UP!" shouted Eryndor silencing the entire crowd with a single shout.

Eryndor addressed his subjects in a firm but reassuring tone: "I know this news can be frightening, but I assure you that we are not alone. We are a proud and strong people, and we are ready to defend ourselves against this horde of monsters. We have been through difficult times in the past, but we have always overcome obstacles by standing together. We will do so again this time."

The elves looked at each other, listening to their queen's words. They knew it would not be easy, but they were confident in their ability to face adversity.

Eryndor continued: "We are a nation of warriors and wizards, and we will use every resource at our disposal to defend ourselves. But most importantly, we will fight with honour and courage, protecting our people and our sacred land. We will not let the monsters trample Elfheim!"

The elves nodded in approval, "It is true! We are the proud elves, the strongest and bravest!" some even raised their fists in determination. They were ready to fight and defend their home, no matter what.

In the middle of the afternoon, the streets of the elven capital were soon filled with people preparing the defences. Elven soldiers trained with their swords and bows, while ordinary citizens reinforced the walls and doors of buildings.

Despite the anxiety and uncertainty that hung over the capital, the elves prepared with courage and determination. They were prepared to do anything to protect their homes and families from the approaching forces.

*****************

Elwynn and her friends were fully engaged in preparing the defences of the elven capital. She had put aside her doubts and worries to focus on the task at hand. She chatted with her friends, sharing ideas on how best to defend against the approaching monsters. Elwynn was happy to see everyone working together, united to protect their home.

However, as she worked to help prepare, the appearance of Nishley, the goddess of faith, kept haunting her. She couldn't help but wonder if the power she had received was meant to be used in this battle. Was it a coincidence or was there something bigger at stake?

Elwynn bit her lower lip, lost in thought. While Legolas glanced at Elwynn, noticing that she was silent and a little distracted.

"Are you all right, Elwynn? You seem a little off," he asked.

Elwynn shook her head to focus. "Yes, I'm fine. I'm just a little preoccupied with a few things," she replied, before returning to work on fortifying the barricades.

Alear, who had been watching Elwynn carefully, added, "I don't know if I'm the only one who's noticed, but you haven't been yourself since you left home after school. Has something happened?" Suspiciously but worriedly.

"It's true, Elwynn is usually very energetic, but since you left this morning you've been sullen as an old granny," added the other friend.

"I'm not an old granny!" said Elwynn to his silly friend who was laughing.

Elwynn bit her lower lip, hesitating. She knew she couldn't keep the secret of her encounter with the goddess to herself, but she feared her friends would think she was crazy.

"I... I'm not sure how you'll react," she stammered. "I don't want you to think I'm crazy or something."

"We won't think you're crazy," Legolas declared confidently. "You can tell us what's bothering you."

With a sigh of relief, Elwynn told her friends about her encounter with the goddess and how she had given her some of her power.

"Wow," Alear said, her eyes wide. "That's amazing, Elwynn. You got to meet a goddess! You have divine power now, can you show us, please!" accompanied by the other two who insisted.

Elwynn felt anxious as she heard the encouragement of her friends. She knew she had to show them her power, but she was afraid of disappointing them or scaring them.

Finally she decided to trust them and closed her eyes to concentrate. She remembered the words of the mysterious goddess and let the power of faith flow into her.

She felt a surge of warmth flow through her, and when she opened her eyes again, a golden light emanated from her hands.

Her friends stood in awe of this incredible sight. Legolas walked over to her slowly and touched the golden light.

"That's amazing, Elwynn," he said in an emotional voice.

Alear and the other friend nodded, amazed by the scene.

Elwynn felt a weight lift from his shoulders and smiled shyly at his friends.

"I don't know exactly what it means, but I feel like I'm meant to help in some way," she said.

"I knew there was something different about you," added another friend, Neio, "You smelled weirder than usual."

Elwynn smacked Neio's head but smiled, reassured that her friends weren't judging her. "I don't know if this power should be used for this battle or not," she said, looking at her friends. "But I will do my best to help our kingdom defend itself.

Her friends nodded, determined to fight alongside Elwynn to protect their home.

Meanwhile, Queen Eryndor Elfheim continued to mobilize the elven forces to prepare the kingdom's defenses, knowing that time was running out and that monsters could already be seen on the walls. She silently prayed to the goddess who had guided her to found this kingdom, asking her to protect the kingdom she had built and its inhabitants.

Little did she know that behind her was the blurred figure she longed to see, watching her until she silently disappeared from the world.
