Chapter 15 - Eating monsters

Kane didn't know if time passed faster or slower while he was in that white dimension, but even if he passed, he doubted that one second there would be like one hour in that world. So, he was pretty sure that it was early in the afternoon. That was fine and all, but Kane couldn't see any signs of sunlight, but he still could see things inside that dungeon very clearly.

"Maybe ants have good eyesight or something…"

It didn't take long for Kane to find some footprints, human footprints finally… given the appearance of those, he concluded that whoever the owner of those was, it passed there a few days ago. There was always a chance that humans might camp inside dungeons, but so far, Kane didn't hear anything that made him think that.

Regardless, after walking through the left side of the intersection for five minutes, Kane finally found a dead-end… and also a big ass bat. Kane blinked a few times, wondering if he wasn't daydreaming or something, he never saw bats so up close before, but he knew that their faces were similar to the rats. Still, that knowledge didn't prevent him from feeling goosebumps while looking at the monster.

"Holy shit… Yikes!"

Kane had confirmed by comparing himself with the footprints that he had precisely that side. Still, the bat was even bigger than him: one meter long and eighty centimeters tall. More important, that creature also seemed more deadly; Kane confirmed that after seeing the red teeth of that monster. Kane decided to run, but unfortunately, even though he was walking slowly, the bat still felt the sound of his movements. The confrontation was unavoidable.

"Come and get it, you freak."

Although Kane readied himself seemingly without hesitation, he was feeling shivers while the bat was flying toward him. Given that his level was one, his only chance of survival was by going all out. It was dangerous to spend so much energy on a single opponent, but trying to save energy would also be equally dangerous.

The very moment the bat opened its mouth, Kane activated both Steel Claws and Bloody Bite. Attacking an unknown target using his mouth seemed dangerous. Still, he didn't hesitate in doing so after his claws cut off the bat's wings. Kane wished that he had enough room to choose another area, but he ended up biting the head of that monster. Unlike the wings, he felt a lot of resistance and some pain in his teeth or fangs… he didn't know what to call it.

Although Kane caused damage first, the momentum of the bat still made their bodies collide, and Kane was sent flying backward after causing some damage. He ended up hitting the wall on the other side, and he also felt one of his legs getting crushed, but the other parts of his body were fine.

"Shit… a flying monster always would have the advantage, but still…"

Kane quickly checked his health and noticed that he had lost one-third of it. As long as he didn't die, he could always recover, but even though he suffered less damage than his enemy, Kane couldn't bring himself to celebrate.

A few meters on his left side, Kane saw the bat struggling to get up. The beast had lost its balance because he only had one arm and one wing. Even though Kane couldn't see the enemy's health, he was fully aware that he had an advantage.

After confirming that his body was under his control, except for one of his legs, Kane activated Dash and charged forward the bat. He wouldn't lose the chance to attack an enemy that just lost one of their weapons, and just like before, he activated Steel Claws and Bloody Bite.

The bat got caught off guard, and Kane managed to hit his body against the creature while he also bit and sliced off the creature's head. Although Kane felt disgusted by biting an enemy, the taste of blood was quite sweet and didn't taste like iron at all. That was thanks to his monster senses, but he still felt disgusted by it… even though the pain in his damaged leg decreased considerably.

"Man… this thing sure is resilient, even though it doesn't look like it."

Two full combos and one half-assed body slam hadn't been enough to kill the bat, but Kane knew that the creature was about to kick the bucket. Kane had destroyed both of the monster's eyes when he used Steel Claws for the second time, so the beast was bleeding quite a lot and barely could stand.

"Time to conserve energy and move slowly."

Kane approached the creature and walked around it, he doubted that the beast could fake being in pain, but caution was necessary. In the end, after approaching the bat from behind, Kane used both of his claws to behead the creature… he felt so little resistance that he even felt his blood running cold.

(Congratulations! You killed an enemy. You received two reincarnation points.")

"Phew… I survived."

Given that he had used skills more than a few times, Kane concluded that he received a lot of experience, but he only received thirty points. It was also quite surprising that he only received two reincarnation points considering that he struggled quite a bit.

"I guess the difference of power between my targets affects how much experience I can receive… humans are sturdier, and they use many types of weapons, so it is only obvious that the system categorizes them as stronger than the bats."

In any case, Kane started to wonder what he should do with that corpse. He couldn't leave trails of his actions behind, and he couldn't waste time digging graves to bury his enemies, either. When Kane felt the sweet smell of blood, he thought of eating the creature, but he was pretty sure that wasn't a good idea… not if he still were a human.

"My body isn't of a human anymore… so, perhaps…"

Kane wasn't that hungry or thirsty, but he decided to do some tests. In the end… the bat's flesh and blood weren't so bad, and they even could fill his hunger and thirst bar quite fast. Kane was happy about that, but he couldn't help but wonder where he would stop considering that three days ago, he was a human, and now he had already killed two people and was loving the taste of the monster's flesh and blood. Well, he was feeling guilty... but at the very least, he was feeling guilty with his belly full.
