Before Kane could notice, he had eaten the entire bat. His belly was bigger than he had imagined. However, soon he saw now that food had gone… his broken leg had been healed, and his health bar was full again, even though just ten minutes had passed.
"Monsters truly are fearsome creatures… I guess even being a monster has its perks."
Kane was learning quite quickly that it would become more and more difficult trying to survive while having a monster's body and a human's mind. Eventually, he would obtain a body stronger than a human's, but that wouldn't make things easier. Perhaps his current body was even stronger than his old one... he previously didn't have claws and fangs, after all.
(Congratulations! You unlocked a new monster. You received two reincarnation points.")
"This fucked up system is trying quite hard to make me a real monster… it looks like I can even unlock the type of monsters that I eat. That is quite troublesome… there is a big chance that I can only become something stronger than a goblin if I defeat and eat it first."
If the system didn't force Kane to choose things faster while he is on that white dimension, he could have learned that a lot sooner, but in the end, it wouldn't change anything.
"Becoming a flying monster must be pretty cool… as long as I'm using my head, I can surprise enemies quite easily at night. The problem is... the chances of bats being the only monsters that hunt at night were quite low. Not only that, but they must also be the weakest flying species of all monsters."
If Kane learns some magic, things would be interesting, but using the head and teeth to attack every single time would make every single monster quiet hard to master their fighting style. Regardless, Kane could think of those things later. He had to map the dungeon. Bats didn't have many bones, so Kane managed to hide those quite easily.
"Let's see now… I guess this time, I will follow the path of the middle."
Kane didn't know if that would work, but he decided to follow that theory of always choosing the left side in order to find the end of the labyrinth. That being said, it didn't take long before he could forget about such things. Back at the near at the intersection where he was born, he found two bats feasting on those four eggs.
"Shit… that could have been me. If I were a bit faster… no, I can't think that way. I have already died twice… there is no way someone with my level of skill can worry about others. I didn't even know if those eggs would give birth to monsters with human minds, after all."
Either way, Kane only had one thing to do, kill the two bats. Since they were working together, they could kill him if he left them alone. Besides, he wouldn't have any other choice but to attack two enemies when they were busy like that.
"All right, Kane. You can do it… it is time to make your ancestors proud of you."
The bats were about to finish their meal, so Kane didn't have time to hesitate. After taking a single deep breath, he activated all his skills at the same time and charged forward the bats. Instead of attacking both opponents at the same time in a half-assed manner, Kane decided to try to take one down as fast as possible.
After hitting the bat that was on the right side with a body slam, Kane used his Steel Claws to destroy one of the creature's wings. Just like before, he easily cut the wings down. After that, he bit the bat's neck and increased the pressure on it with all his might. Although his fangs weren't enough to behead the bat, Kane still managed to destroy half of the creature's neck and kill it.

The other creature took its sweet time to react but still managed to fly before Kane could attack it. Surprisingly, even though its ally died in a few seconds, the second bat didn't even try to run away. It only flew in circles for a while to build momentum and then flew toward Kane.
"This will be painful, but it is also a good chance for me…"
Kane readied himself and focused his eyes on the monster. Instead of slashing his claws down like usual, Kane made the reverse movement while hitting the bat's head. He still was struck by the bat's body and suffered some damage, but Kane had a clear view of the monster's neck. Without hesitation, he activated the Bloody Bite and attacked the monster's neck.
Kane felt even more perturbed by eating the flesh of a monster while it was trying to free himself. Still, as if his body had a life on its own, it did that automatically… Although it was quite unsettling, the good side of that attack damaged the monster's neck so much that the beast couldn't scream. Bats were quite well-known for that, after all. Regardless the monster soon died, and Kane let the corpse fall to the ground.

Kane sighed in relief when he received that notification. The feeling of pride for having survived a battle to death was terrific. Still, after that, the sense of guilt was quite troublesome, but at least it was less disturbing than taking a human's life. Again, even though he wasn't that hungry, he didn't feel full while he was eating those two bats.

"It looks like my body can store energy quite a bit… I don't feel heavy, even after eating creatures that are larger than me. But I can't see anything weird on my status screen… I guess It would be weird if the status screen could show me something about monsters' physiology."
Even though Kane couldn't see it, he could notice that his hunger and thirst didn't decrease for quite a while. It would be great if eating too much could increase his max mana or stamina for a while, but things weren't that convenient. After getting rid of the vestiges, Kane moved toward the path in the center while hoping that he would feel less like crap and that he wouldn't have to suffer so much damage.
