Although Kane tried to calm down, that uneasiness didn't leave him alone. Something troublesome was about to happen…, but before that could happen, he decided to test how strong that spider was.
"The next bat or bats will only appear in one hour or so, but I can't let my guard down… Just be safe; I will wait until my mana is full before using Water Ball."
In the end, the interval between shots increased a bit since Water Ball leveled up, but the difference was barely noticeable. Besides, Kane also could see that the Water Ball became slightly bigger, so the consumption didn't increase; just like the skill list showed, the power increased as well.
(Congratulations! You leveled up. You received one reincarnation point.")
(Congratulations! The skill Water Ball leveled up. You received one reincarnation point.")
Half an hour later, Kane received those notifications. That was good and all, but he couldn't help but frown while looking at the spider. The monster had lost two legs thanks to Kane's Water Balls, but it didn't react in any way. Regardless, the creature had lost at least lost thirty health points. Given the damage suffered, Kane concluded that in half an hour, he would finish the monster. If the spider doesn't eat another bat…
Much to his surprise, when Kane was about to allocate his new status points, he felt the area getting a bit hot… To make matters worse, the spider started to shine. As if… as if it was evolving.
"You have got to be kidding me…"
Kane finally understood why he felt that something terrible was about to happen. The spider's behavior was just too weird… In any case, he didn't wait for the monster to evolve. He left that place faster than the wind because he was pretty sure that he was the first name on that spider's list of monsters that it wanted to eat.
Running at the top of his speed, Kane returned to the starting point quite fast, even though he used walls as much as possible in order not to leave trails behind. That spider was smart enough to understand that it needed to be patient to attack him at the best moment, so he couldn't underestimate that opponent.
"Why that thing suddenly evolved? What were the requirements? Can all monsters evolve? Although that is convenient to know, I have no idea if I can do that too."
Although Kane understood how the leveling system worked, he now wanted to learn something else. Knowledge is power, after all. After returning to the first intersection, Kane took the right path while he analyzed his status screen… First, the amount of experience necessary to level up was the same as the monster and the skills level up. Basically, it was just the previous valor plus one hundred points… to make the Water Ball level up. Kane had to hit an enemy ten times. Most likely, the enemy had to be stronger or had around the same level of power for him to receive ten points of experience. At level two, he would have to hit the enemy twenty times. At level three, he would need thirty shots and so on…
"Well, the difference in power is important in RPGs. So, there is always a chance that I can earn even more experience by fighting enemies much stronger than me. The problem is: can I survive more than a few seconds fighting against them?"
Considering that he could reincarnate as a monster as long as he has enough points, perhaps accepting some risks was acceptable. However, dying, again and again, wasn't becoming easier or less uncomfortable. If anything, Kane wanted to valorize every single of his lives. If, by chance, he starts to take the system and those chances for granted, then he would indeed become a monster.
Regardless, Kane had to stop thinking about that because he began to hear a sound coming from behind. He didn't want to stop and confirm what it was, but considering that that bad feeling had returned, it was probably the evolved spider.
At the cost of some stamina, Kane sped up and eventually left that sound behind. However, he didn't drop his guard. His sense of direction was beginning to get messy since he found another intersection with three possible directions for him. At that point in time, he didn't have the luxury to map the dungeon. He only wanted to find a safe place to stay.
"Why is it so damn hard to find a good hideout in this damn place?"
Due to the fact that Kane was taking his sweet time choosing a direction, he began to hear the sound of something coming from behind again. Although he was pretty sure that animals had good senses, Kane was also pretty sure that only something pretty heavy and oversized could make so much noise from a distance. Most likely, the spider was an even bigger big-ass spider, and the chances of him winning a direct battle against such a beast dropped to zero.
Without having time to waste, Kane decided to take the path to his right side this time. Running in a straight line wasn't a good idea, and fortunately, Kane found a single big-ass stalactite in the ceiling. He had a hard time climbing the walls and reaching the stalactite. Still, he eventually managed to grab it… at the cost of some points of stamina per minute. More important than that, the spider passed by him without noticing that Kane was right above it…
"The heck…"
The spider that was barely one meter long now was 1,5 meters long and also had a green glow coming from her butt… Kane was pretty sure spiders couldn't store poison there, but most likely, that spider obtained the power to poison its enemies using the thread it could produce. As if such an elastic thing wasn't convenient enough, it could damage the spider's target or perhaps even dull their senses. That was really dangerous beyond explanation.
"That is one hell of a useful ability, but… will I gain such skills by evolving? I also wonder if I will become that big. Considering that to do everything, I have to consume a lot of energy and finding suitable prey is starting to become hard, perhaps evolving isn't a good idea."
Kane didn't know much about ants, but he knew that, like spiders, they had many types and functions. However, he had never heard on that about ants that could drink blood and regenerate themselves by doing that… so his knowledge probably wouldn't help him.
