Chapter 16 - The most eligible bachelor

"No! I would never! Who told you such a thing?" Xavier shook his head still in disbelief that she even thought he could hurt her.

"You are an arse! A liar! That's what you are! I trusted you. I thought we were supposed to be partners in this but I was wrong. Remember this, you broke my trust once not again. I will take what's rightfully mine! " Agatha announced, scowling at him in disdain and stormed out of the room.

Xavier was astounded by the thought and sat down in disbelief. This was not what he thought it to be. How did she even have such an idea? killing her? Never. As much as Xavier knew she had an illness, a terminal one that's what Edgar told him. This wasn't right. She never told him why she thought that.

"Agatha!" Xavier called out, following after her. Agatha rubbed away her tears, paying no attention to his calling. Xavier fastened to catch up to her, Agatha quickened up reaching her bedchamber and tried to close the door.

Xavier put his hands in between, trying to push through the doors, as Agatha tried to restrain him from breaking into the room.

"Let go of the door!" Agatha gritted her teeth trying to close the door with all her might.

"No…You have to tell me." Xavier pushed in through.

"Tell me what makes you think I would kill you?" Xavier asked once more. He was determined to get to the end of it.

Agatha scoffed, her eyes peeking at the candle holders on the table. She backed towards the table trying to grab the candle stand and hit him before anything.

"So you can plan better this time?" Agatha inquired, gripping the stand.

Xavier exasperated sighs, at her being struck to the lie that he murdered him. At Least she needs to give one reason why she thinks that he killed her. Only then he can find out the truth, it was that simple!

"How many times should I say, I didn't… " Xavier tried to get close to her.

"Stay away! Don't come near me!" Agatha pulled out the candle holder and pointed at him, ready to attack if he took even a step closer to her.

"I don't care whatever the truth is. Even without the killing, the pain you caused was enough for me to despise you. I want nothing to do with you. Once I give birth to Adrien, let's be strangers like we always have been." Agatha pushed him out of the room, slamming the door right in his face.

Once at the empty, Agatha dropped off the candle stand and broke down crying. Remembering the past was never pleasing. The pain is unbearable, eating her soul alive. Once the innocent girl, who thought they were life partners, died.

Agatha never met him before their wedding. She knew who the king was, the most eligible bachelor who had the looks of a god, an able leader who took the throne at fifteen when the internal dispute was at its finest. In five years, Acarvia became one of the strongest kingdoms on the continent.

She was seventeen when she stood at the altar in front of twenty-four-year-old Xavier, with hopes and dreams for her future. Agatha never thought she might end up becoming queen. A noble position sure but not the queen herself.

When her mother told her, she was marrying none other than the King and the fact that he proposed this marriage. Agatha couldn't hold back her joy thinking about her married life. They would be partners, rule the kingdom, have kids together and grow old. A dream of every young woman in the kingdom.

However, right on the wedding night as she patiently waited for him in their bed-chamber, he was nowhere to be seen until midnight, when he returned in a drunken state and fell asleep by her side.

"Agatha! Open the door!" Xavier knocked at the door from the other side.

Agatha didn't answer and stuck to her words. After minutes of trying to talk to her, Xavier finally stops coming from outside. That day, no matter how much Xavier wished to talk, she didn't come out of the room, even strictly prohibiting anyone to come into her room.

Even the dinner sent to her room returned without touching. With each passing second, Xavier grew further concerned. If he didn't push her further like that, she wouldn't have locked herself in her room. Knowing that his trying to push in would cause her to drift farther away from him. Xavier went back to his room, waiting for the dawn.

The next morning…

Xavier didn't sleep a wink the whole night. All he did was twist and turn in his bed and as soon as he felt the first ray of sun, he got up and dressed up and went to her room. It was awfully quiet, with the door still locked.

A fear crept inside him, the door seemed like an unbreakable high wall between them. It seemed impossible to break through. Xavier hesitated to knock on the door, afraid that she might ignore him.

Xavier took a deep breath before raising his hand to knock when the door opened and in front of him, stood a dark sapphire dress with brown hair braided with a sapphire and diamond crown on her head.

Agatha's face remained expressionless. On seeing Xavier, she gave a light bow as her head continued to remain lower.

Xavier didn't have to ask, even with a lowered head, he could see her reddened and puffy eyes. It was quite clear she had cried the whole night. Xavier clenched his fingers in guilt and furious at himself.

"Let's have some breakfast, shall we?" Xavier tried to divert the topic.

"Very well. Enjoy your breakfast, Your Majesty. I shall wait for you in the carriage." Agatha responded.

Xavier gave a dubious look, not understanding what she meant by that. She hadn't eaten anything other than tea the previous afternoon. That seemed concerning.

"What do you mean you will wait for me in the carriage? You are going to go with me to the dining table and eat your breakfast. You can be angry at him, but not at your food."
