General Hayes and Reginald threw themselves confused glances after hearing her voice. Their eyes went back to the infuriated girl whose fingers were almost clawing off the piece of white cloth that covered the table.
Reginald's eyes met with hers and he could see that look again. The look of accusation, clouded with anger and mockery.
Olivia tried her best to make sure she didn't spill words she would regret later. But she just couldn't help it when they mentioned her father. Though he wasn't the best, he tried his hardest not to make her feel lonely in his huge palace. Oo
He should have cleared those rumors about her, but he was too busy dealing with Napoleon's affairs and with the mourning of his wife too.
Basically, ruling a country after losing a loved one wasn't easy. But he managed to pull through even though it came with some things detrimental to his health.
Her lips shook and twitched and she drew in a sharp breath. She stood upright and said nothing while her expression returned to being blank. Even though they were screaming hard in her head to let them out, she managed to cage them in.
Princess Olivia tore her eyes away from them and whirled out of the dining. She strided in a speed that one couldn't match. Almost as though she was fighting against the air as her grip on her gown started to ruffle it.
Enough to make it shred into pieces by the minute.
"You don't think your wife misinterpreted your words, do you?" General Hayes raised a brow. He didn't look as though he was worried about Olivia misinterpreting Reginald's words. What he didn't like was the gaze she threw at them.
Reginald sighed and rose from his seat. He had helped himself out of the dining hall, making sure to go after Olivia.
His eyes scanned around before it spotted her ascending the stairs in urgency. The back of her gown fluttered as she did so, while her hair bounced slightly behind her.
"Darn it..." He cussed underneath his breath and increased his walking pace.
Some meters away, the shadow of a person was immersed into the darkness. Clearly after he had watched the scene in a careful manner.
She was about to slam the door to a close, but something heavy pushed it back. Olivia frowned and gathered a lot of her strength to push back at it, but it did not match the strength of who was pushing it.
Her muscles were getting sore and she gave up immediately, letting him in. Her eyes were still screaming of fury while it scanned his tall, sturdy figure take a step toward her.
"Don't." Her voice was void with something unseen that spoke of dark authority.
Reginald didn't take a step after hearing her statement. He was only there to explain what he meant. There was no way he was going to apologize for her overthinking his words.
"You are angry. But could you contain that anger of yours in the presence of the General, Princess?" His words were calm, while his face didn't expose much of the storm he was having inwardly.
Olivia's body was trembling the minute she heard those words from him. She cocked her head slightly while a grim smile crept up her attractive face.
"You are insane." Her smile had disappeared and she pointed at him, her eyes clearly telling him all that she needed to say.
"Why do you keep accusing me with that gaze? What have I ever done to you!?" Before he knew it, he inquired. His voice quivered, indicating he had lost control of his emotions.
Just who the hell was this Princess to make him lose control over something he could anchor?
He hated it, to the brim.
Olivia shook her head while a giggle escaped her lips. She looked as though he had said something amusing to her. But she was trying her best not to walk to him and land him a slap.
She had done enough walking out of the dining. She should not do anything any longer. But she was compelled to respond to his question.
"You know what you have done to me. And you're prepared to do more. Continue, Lord Reginald!" Her words wore a grave intensity that dropped the room's temperature to zero degrees. Her hands had clenched into a tight ball by her sides.
Olivia's veins could be seen protruding on her knuckles.
Reginald narrowed his eyes on her in confusion. He knew what he did? He was prepared to do more? Why couldn't she be specific on the offense he had committed against her?
One thing he hated was someone not being direct. He wanted to hear her say those words even though he seemed to be the most rational person to everyone.
"What do you mean, Princess?" His lips moved, while his eyes remained fixed on Olivia. Reginald watch how her eyes grew lifeless and steely the moment he spoke.
The only option for him now was to leave. If he continued talking, there was no doubt she could stab him. From the look in her eyes, she could have probably stabbed him over and over in her thoughts.
But knowing her anger was directed at him for something he was oblivious to never sat well with him. It made him restless.
Normally, he never cared about what people thought about him. This Princess whom he never wanted to have anything for, whom he never even desired from the deepest part of his heart, made him care about her own opinion of him.
Olivia walked toward her dark canopy-bed wordlessly. She did not look back, or over her shoulder. This indicated that he should leave, and she was not going to say more.
It was up to Reginald finding out what he had done to her. She left him there, trying to think if he made a statement that got her mad.
All these started back at the inn. Her anger toward him.
But there was no way he met her before walking to her room finding her angry. There was something he was missing, and he wasn't sure of what it was.
However, Olivia shut her eyes close immediately her frame collapsed into the bed. She was trying her best not to lash out at him but all she wanted was that he leave her alone.
There was so much on her mind now, including her brewing anger that kept making her scared every seconds. Olivia exhaled and inhaled thrice trying to calm herself.
She heard the door closing shut and she opened her eyes. Olivia blinked silently, staring at the ceiling.
