Chapter 50 - Report

One news report began to play which Butch and Tiffany paid more attention to.

The news anchors were seated at their desks as they began to speak, the woman anchor was the first to begin the topic. "Now onto other news... with the recent lack of solving crimes in some areas, the police have begun to lose support."

She went on to discuss how many of the area's citizens had lost faith in the police force and how most of their support had been directed toward Heroes and Vigilantes.

It could be said that support for Vigilantes was slightly higher since they worked outside of the law and were more effective at cleaning up the streets.

If the police or the heroes used their methods, some criminals would end up back on the streets again shortly after they were arrested.

Some cities were already considered as lost causes and were gaining less monetary support so the police force and hero agencies were not paying too well and they did not have good enough funding for the equipment they needed.

That either led to them quitting due to the high risk of their lives with poor pay along with the constant jabs they got from the public or they sought out ways to keep everything going even if it meant becoming corrupt.

Some officers resorted to making false arrests after stopping innocent citizens and charging them for crimes they did not commit just so they could keep their arrest numbers up.

Others went even further as they began to take bribes from different sources.

It was difficult to find many honest and law-abiding officers in each department when the state of it was so terrible.

The local government and some businesses provided some support but that was far from enough to support their daily duties.

Even those payments came with certain requirements that they needed to fulfil even if it meant attending places that others wanted or performing tasks that were not usually suited to them.

There were several times when the police were treated more like the personal security of the rich and were unable to have much time for actual police work.

With the better detectives and officers having to devote less time to the state of the city, many other officers were left to pick up the slack.

The public was not aware of the inner workings of the police but many had already lost faith in them.

The male news anchor went on to continue to report after the female anchor. "That may have been the case... but a new initiative has been put forward that has come from nowhere all of a sudden.

Perhaps our police force may have some room for improvement in the future. Now onto our live reporter."

They both placed their documents down before straightening their expressions before a small square appeared on the screen that slowly expanded taking over what had been displayed.

On it was a male reported who was standing in front of a large crowd which had gathered in front of the police station.

The chief officer in charge was standing on a platform behind a microphone stand and by his side was a much larger woman.

The woman had an appearance that was very like a bull while she was dressed in a business suit.

The woman was speaking to the people below through the microphone. "I was once just a humble citizen before I became a CEO and I grew up idolizing the police and the heroes who worked side by side.

These days it is mostly the heroes that get a lot of the credit which is quite sad. I want the days when everyone once trusted in the badge to return so the company has fully agreed to provide additional support.

The company will be launching a new batch of toys with the concept of officers and heroes, these toys will be sold and a discussed portion of the profits will go toward the police fund to support their activities.

This new concept is based on a newly famous comic artist who has been gaining a lot of attention recently and they are behind the design of the characters. The first batches will be donated free of charge to the families of the police force.

I once again would like to say that I hope the badge I once trusted in will return to its former glory-moo!"

As she got a little excited at the end, her habit of speaking slipped through causing her to look a little embarrassed.

The chief officer standing by the side stepped forward and began to address everyone moments later. "We are all deeply grateful for this support and we hope that we can live up to the expectations of the people."

Just as it was about to end, many people came onto the stage holding boxes which contained different types of toys that seemed to have been discussed.

Each of them was handed out on screen to each officer.

Some were given more due to them having more than one child in their household.

The reporter who remained silent had stepped up and said in a cheerful voice. "Is this a new start to the police or is it just another wasted effort? Only time will tell! I for one would like to see some positive changes being made. Now back to you in the studio."
