Studying Together For The Tests
I reach the school and find a text from Naina telling me to come to the back stairs of the first building. I go there and step upstairs to reach the second floor where they all are sitting. "Hey", They all say.
"Hi", I mumble. "Will we study at the back stairs?", I ask, taking a seat beside Naina. "Yes", Shravan says from his spot and I shrug. "Let me tell you the problem you are facing...first", he says and takes out my answer sheets and Science NCERT.
"Look here. You are copy pasting the lines written on the page. Even though they are correct, still you are not able to take out an answer", he points out and I frown. What?
"I mean to say that you are not understanding the concepts and hence not applying them. Until and unless you apply them, you won't be able to solve these questions", he tells me.
"For instance in this question, you need to describe the activity in the first chapter. You write certain things but then leave it because you forgot it. If you understand what that chemical is and what it does then you can write it even if you have forgotten it because you have understood it", he explains.
"And you don't need to take stress. I will help you out with it. We are starting chapters of each subject together and will finish them together", he says to me. "Will I be able to study in the correct way without facing problems?", I ask him.
"Why not?", he says. "Just stay calm and we'll do this", he assured me. We decided to start with Mathematics and open real numbers to prove the irrationality of the numbers. I mean you can see it has a root and it is not a perfect square still this book is filled with illogical questions. I glare at it.
"Stop glaring at the book and focus on study, cutiepie", Shravan chuckles and I blush in embarrassment. He points at the example where root three is proved to be an irrational number and I read it.
"Now notice how this is done. We say that this number is rational and a/b is equal to this number where a and b are co prime. Co prime means the only common factor between these both is one. If we prove that 3 is another common factor, our assumption of understanding a and b as co prime will be proved wrong", he explains.
"And once our assumption is proved wrong, this will be a contradiction. Contradiction means that this number is an irrational number", he says and I am somewhat able to understand it. "Now look here as I solve one for you", he says opening his register and starts to write.
"See and listen. Speak later", he says and starts solving the question explaining to me each step and I grin as I finally understand it. "Understood", I say. "Then solve the first question of this exercise", he instructs and I start solving. We all chit chat about random things in between so that it does not become boring.
I solve the questions and show them to Shravan who smiles at me. "See. You got it. Just like this, we will complete the whole syllabus", he says smiling. We complete the first chapter and open Biology to study life processes. "Dude. Some diagrams are so scary", Payal remarks and we all laugh.
"But these are in our body", Naina says chuckling and Payal makes a face, making our laughter come louder than before. "Well. I am desperate to enter the second term and study Human reproduction", Bunty says whistling. "Bunty", I say amused and he gives a cheeky look in return. "What I was saying? Instead of studying it, let's go on the practicals of that chapter. We already know how to do it. So why not?", Sameer says.
Naina and I whine hearing it while Shravan's group laughs. "No practicals. We are too young for it", Naina says. "But we have protection. Don't worry, we won't be parents. Let's do it. Labs are empty too", Sameer says and Shravan smacks him on his head. Thank you, Shravan.
"Where are we going now? We will discuss this in the second term. First, let's study this", Shravan says and we again focus on the chapter. "I never knew the process of digesting food could be so complex", Saheb says while eating fruits from the box and Shravan takes one piece of apple from it.
"For that we need to distract ourselves from eating mate", Ved laughs and Saheb glares at him making him quieten down and this is our turn to laugh now. "Science is so boring", Naina whines after some time passes by. "Tell something we don't know", Sameer says, playing with the pages of the book.
"Exams are just in a week and you guys are not at all studying", Shravan shakes his head with a smile on his face. "July always passes in exams", I say. "It's a boring month", I add.
"What can we do? Let's quickly solve the worksheet and move on. Our target includes completing these two processes that are coming in exams", Shravan says and we all get into work. I make a flow chart of the various glands and juices involved in digestion on the blank page of my copy to easily memorise them later.
"I am too bad at drawing. How will I do diagrams?", I ask, counting my hair strands. "Don't worry. I will tell you how to do it", Shravan says. "The only diagram that is difficult is respiratory system and that will come only for labelling as told by biology ma'am", he adds.
"Who's making chits and for what chapter?", Ved asks out of the blue. Cheating. "I am making it for chemical reactions", Payal says. "You won't do it?", Ved asks me and I shake my head.
"No worries", Shravan mutters.
