At this moment, Eve couldn't handle the shock anymore and choked on her saliva.
WHOOF!
WHOOF!
WHOOF!
She coughs hard thereby gaining the attention of everyone in the hall.
"Eve..." Giavanna held his hand tighter. And made sure he didn't run to help out his mistress.
"Darling, I guess it is correct hmm?" She smiled at him and kept her eyeballs locked in his.
The fury in his eyeballs could set one ablaze but Giavanna was unfazed by it.
In fact, she pretended as if she didn't see the hate and disgust in his eyes.
"T-t-that is..." Xander stuttered. He stole a glance at the woman whom he had wanted to surprise.
'He loves you right?... Now that I have brought the topic up then let's see whether he will choose love over my family wealth and influence he is after'
Giavanna grinned wickedly at her sly thoughts.
Eve pleadingly signalled him with her eyes not to do like his wife wanted.
"Miss Eve, are you alright?" Mr Hermon asked as he stepped forward. "If you are feeling unwell why don't you go down and..."
"I... I...I am fine, Sir," Giavanna muttered. "Yes, I am fine." She beamed.
Beneath that smile was a woman whose greatest desire at the moment was to destroy everything in the hall.
"It's so obvious that the special lady Mr Xander wanted to present the award to him is Eve, so why is his wife playing dumb about it?" Due to her heightened sense of hearing, Giavanna easily overheard the conversation of two women whose table was at the right corner.
"Is she pretending or is she really dumb?" the first lady inquired.
"I heard she is dumb for real so I won't be surprised if she hasn't seen the handwriting on the wall." The second lady in an orange sleeveless dress taunted.
If only they knew that she heard everything then maybe they would have chosen their words carefully.
'What a bunch of gossips... Gossipping is like food to them. And I won't waste my precious time on fools like them. They are not worth it'
Giavanna ignored the conversation between the two women.
"Mrs Xander, since Mr Xander has agreed that you are the special woman he referred to, then I will step aside and leave the stage for you." Mr Hermon informed her.
He extended his hand and passed the award plaque to her before he moved to where Eve stood.
When she saw that he would not take the initiative to hold her hand. Giavanna exchanged hands she held the microphone and plaque.
"Let's go." She grabbed his hand and led him to the podium. After coming to a stop, she looked at him with an innocent smile on her lips.
"From the moment I accepted you into my life I have always known that you were meant for the top, and today you have proved my judgement right."
She stroked the hand which was still in her possession.
"You reached a milestone in such a short period. I could never be prouder than I am. You..." Her eyes sparkled as she continued her words of encouragement, but the other woman was visibly enraged that one could see the angry birds flying atop her head.
"It was just an award plaque she was asked to hand over to him and here she is flirting with him. Isn't she ashamed of herself?" Eve said underneath her breath and Giavanna heard every single word she said.
But as always, she decided to ignore the bitter words of her husband's mistress.
"Congratulations on your award." She said and stretched forth the plaque to him.
"I am so proud of you." She mumbled before pulling him in and embracing him tighter.
Reporters did what they knew how to do best as camera flashes filled the hall.
'That was supposed to be me. I am the one who should be getting all this attention and not you... He is mine and my arms alone is where he is supposed to be and not yours'
Eve dug her long nails into her palm, inflicting a fresh set of wounds on it again.
A smile of victory lingered on Giavanna's pretty face as she peered at the lady whose fresh blood she perceived from where she stood in her husband's embrace.
"That's enough," Xander's cold voice disrupted her thoughts. He held her hand and unwrapped it from his body before she could stop him.
"Let's go," he voiced, he turned and proceeded to the stairs. As he did this he paid no attention to the reporters who were dying to capture more pictures of the couple's sweet moment.
When they got to the levelled floor, reporters who had stationed themselves close to the stage circled the couple.
Eve was violently shoved aside by the crowd. Had she not bumped into another guest she would have fallen face down on the hard floor.
After she managed to stabilise herself on the floor again she spun and shot Giavanna a deadly glare.
'This is all your fault... I will make sure you pay dearly for stealing that which should have been mine...You will pay for this embarrassment, Giavanna'
Furious, she stomped out of the hall where her presence was no better than that of a passing breeze.
