Chapter 8 - VIII

"What's with the rush Alpha Logan, you are welcome in my pack, you know that right?" Lucas said with the same false smile he gave when he was asking where Logan had been and Logan immediately thought something was wrong somewhere.

He felt he wasn't welcome, and while he was assessing Alpha Lucas, he realized he had a sudden glint in his eyes, one that pars with predatory, but why the look? He couldn't tell

'It can't be that he wants to start a fight, he's smarter than that, right? And all for what, twenty percent profit?'

"I know," Logan said after a few seconds of contemplation,

Seeing that Lucas hasn't flared up yet, Elias discreetly makes a hand gesture to Arthur, one that signifies that he should focus on him. After he got Arthur's attention, he made a war sign language to him to tell him about the situation, all while being as discreet as he could but then, Lucas got a whiff of it and it further ascertained his suspicions

'War language is significant to each pack, so they know I don't understand the message being passed but then, why else would they start conversing in that language right now?' he thought before returning his gaze to Logan who was looking a bit confused and calculative

"What's that scent?" Lucas voiced out after deciding that speaking up is better than being too calculative and it'll be better to hear from the horse's mouth

"Which scent is that?" Logan asked, genuinely confused but then, the tone of his words stuck a cord in Alpha Lucas's self-control

Logan felt like he didn't have the time to spare for games and gimmicks with an Alpha so weak he couldn't even expand territory, instead, he focused on wealth and manpower.

All he felt like doing was finalizing the deal, cutting himself off his other half, and getting back to his pack

After all, he has been away for too long, it took them two days to make it to this pack, with no rain, wind, or dark art hindering the journey, only God knows the number of Alphas that already caught a whiff of his absence from his pack and are currently planning how they were going to come and invade

"Do I seem dumb to you? Alpha Logan, do I look like I'm trying to play games here?" Lucas asked and it felt like all hell was let loose inside Logan, he took very huge offense at the tone Lucas used with him but before he could counter with another word, Arthur spoke up instead

"Alpha Lucas" he called, more like warned "we don't understand what's going on here so it'll be better if you just go straight to the point, what's with the whole tension?" he said as he took careful steps towards the duo

He was also very confused at the situation on the ground but then, it'll be better to avoid outing his Alpha and starting a fight here in a pack where they have less manpower

"And what gives you the audacity to talk to me, Delta Arthur?" Lucas said, the cords of his self-control finally snapped

"Alpha Lucas" Logan started, irritated at the disrespect accorded to both him and his Delta, especially from a pack way lower in ranking, compared to him

"Why do you have a rogue scent on you Alpha Logan? Care to explain?" Lucas asked, his voice a bit louder and aggressive, calling the attention of the guards at the doorway to them

"A rogue scent?" Logan asked, a bit confused before his brain clicked

The moment the situation kicked and made sense in his head, he knew he had no defense, he could only imagine what would've gone through Lucas's head in such a short time,

'When did he even catch it? Was it when the breeze blew? Nature and messing things up, every time he thought as he looked to his Delta, wishing he could speak to him through mind link once again

"Cat got your tongue?" Lucas said with a low growl, annoyed at the fact that Logan wasn't saying anything in addition to the question he asked when he could see the gear working in his head through his disturbed eyes

"No matter what you perceive Alpha Lucas, I think it'll be in both our favor if you watch your mouth, don't disrespect me," Logan said, returning the same menacing energy

The one thing he hates after a betrayal is disrespect, he felt he had come a long way to earn all the respect he could get in the world and he isn't going to allow a low Alpha to taint his reputation

"Don't talk about disrespect when you come conniving with rogues to attack my pack!" Lucas barked and immediately, the two guards who were standing at the door moved toward Logan, standing at a safe but unsafe distance from him

"Conniving? Alpha Lucas, what are you talking about?" Arthur said as he assessed the situation

Only when he looked around did he realize that Elias was no longer in the room

"What am I talking about?" he exasperates "What did you promise the rogues? You know that's very low of you right? Making deals with rogues," he said to Logan who was now visibly fuming

And even though he hid it well, Lucas trembled a bit as he realized how much energy Logan could exude in such a space

"Alpha Lucas!" Logan growled as he was ready to tear at the stupid Alpha's throat for talking to him like that but then Lucas couldn't care less, he felt it was stupid of Logan to use such cheap tricks when he had no form of defense against him

"Don't just shout my name, explain yourself!" Lucas barked back at Logan

"The head guard said there are no signs of an army anywhere near here," one of the two guards said seconds after Lucas talked, just before Logan lost his temper

"Are you sure? Tell him to double-check with Malia" Lucas said giving the guard a stern look before turning back to Logan who was still fuming

"Does this stupid situation make sense to you?" Logan asked, his voice low and menacing, his brain replaying all the disrespect Lucas had dished out to him

"Are you asking me?" Lucas asked and Logan struggled hard to keep his anger at bay while Arthur tried his best to not draw attention to himself so no one would notice that Elias wasn't in the room anymore

"Am I asking you?" Logan asked in venom laced voice as he stared straight into Lucas's soul, making sure he could see the red pool beneath the green orb and he can feel the weight of the words he was about to say

"Why exactly would you think I would want to connive with rogues to take over a pack?" he started

"Do I seem that weak and dumb to you? If I want to take over your pack, do you think I would use such cheap tricks? Have you ever heard of me cutting through corners to take over a territory? Do you think your territory is big enough to even accord such stress from me?"

"Double-checked Alpha, no such threats," the same guard said again, looking between the two Alphas

"He's sure? He asked Malia?" Lucas said again, pinning his focus on the guard who nodded his head positively and frantically

Lucas was a bit confused, he thought of how the situation didn't make any sense, and how he could have been wrong

'Did I perceive wrong? Was my nostril playing with me? After all, two other guards had been standing close to Alpha Logan and they didn't seem to have perceived anything

After a few seconds of contemplation, he took a deep breath, analyzing each breath for any fowl scent which brought him to the conclusion that he was wrong

"Did I perceive wrong?" he asked out loud
