Chapter 26 - Sacrifice Of A friend

Their hearts accelerated, as the gulp down their possible fear and the shock took over a minutes or two before they got themselves back.

They were afraid and knew just how perilous the situation was so they could not afford to slip.

Still lying in the fatel possible, they waited for the foot steps to disappear, before they gently got up for the wet soil underneath the grass.

Arya first got up, making sure her head was lumming over the ground, as she rolled over on her butt, with her back on the ground.

Taking the little privilege of fresh air, Erin laid there for about three minutes before, she shuffled her way back to the window.

Peeking, with her head just above the bricks, the room was empty. Looking over to the passage she saw only a shadow glooming from the other side.

Carefully crawling back, as the grass ruffled under her, tapping on Arya's legs, she whispered.

"We are going to crawl to the other side of the brushes, until we are clear from those men, don't make a sound okay. "

With the moonlight guiding their paths they crawled, further and further away from the place.

Arya had no idea how long they had been crawling or how far they were from the place they started, but she kept on moving, shunning her twisted ankle, she dragged that foot along.

But they were lucky that throughout the time they have not been pricked or crawled on any sharp thorns or brushes.

Arya grew tried and her hope began to dwindle as time passed. They decided to rest a bit leaning on the bark of a tree. She laid fatigue on the tree. She did not know how much longer she could continue because her wounded leg was going num.

How long could she concentrate like that, it took a lot of mental concentration to be on alert and to be constantly listening to every sound. She was mental exhausted she had never had to concentrate this much before and Arya's stamina just wasn't up to it.

Arya tried to shake the fatigue from her body but didn't work. They had not eaten for the past two nights, and all her energy had been used up in shouting and begging so that they could free them.

Erin on the other hand, throw her head up looking at the sky. She let her body relax and in the next second she felt thick, warm liquid running down her nose. It was her blood, she wiped it using her arm.

At the time when she had pulled Arya along down the window together, she had hit her head hard on the ground, and that had probably triggered her illness. She wondered how long before they will reach the main city, because she could not hold on any longer.

And then they heard the sound of a ship, they immediately got up. That was the sound they needed and the avenue to know where to go.

Finding new hope, Erin picked up a long thick stick, and gave it to Arya, putting one hand under Arya's wait while Arya crossed are arm on Erin's shoulders.

Back in the building…

The leader poured himself a glass of wine paused as soon as he heard of the ship sailing by.

His gaze swayed to the direction of the room, he put the glass down before he advertised his gaze on his men.

"The noise should have woke them up, bring them here, at least we should have so much fun, before the woman comes back." his lips curved up in a smile.

The men could not be more happy when they heard the orders.

As they entered the room where the girls where supposed to be, but was empty, worry graced their faces.

The other men immediately put the blame on the huge man, "You fool I thought we told you to check in them when you were going to the toilet."

"Mm, I checked and they where securely tied to the chair."

"Asshole they're gone, what are we going to tell the boss. "

Hearing the commotion, the leader entered the room, his eyes looked at everywhere before it fell at the broken window. He yelled.

"You fools go look for them!"

They scrambled out though the window, taking the path the girls went. And it there greatest surprise, they found Arya's bloody trail.

Following the trail for more than twenty minutes and there was still no sign of the girls.

"Fuck where are they? We have been looking for so long. " the big one said.

"Relax, there just little girls, am sure we will soon find them."

"Shit" the big man cursed out.

And in the bottomless part of the forest, the girls kept wondering, already losing hope of leaving this place.

And then finally, Erin's foot steps came to a stop, when she heard the brush ruffled, and the men's voice brought a chilly sweat to her spine.

Pounding heart beat, Arya whispered. "What do we do Erin? ."

Erin asked, "What else can we do? how far can you manage with your foot.?"

"I don't know but I think it's manageable."

"Good. " she breath out.

She got Arya to a brush, and pulled her under it, breaking some branches, she covered the entrance, packing as much dirt as she could and blinded the path.

"What are you doing Erin? Are you leaving me here?"

Still gathering dirt, Erin replied. "If you must, run as fast as possible when you hear mine scream, it's clear that only one of us will survive."

Shaking her head, as pool of tears clouded her eyes, "No" her tone was firm, "Both of us are going to leave here hands in hands, you promised me that, so don't you dare go back on your words. "

"Promises are meant to be broken, when lives are involved, and you did the exact thing to save my life years back, so now it's my turn to return the favo-"

"It was not a favor, I did you no favor, so there no favor to be returned in the first place, my life is nothing without you. "

"Opportunities will always turn up when other doors close, and I am sure you will recognize it, and if you want me to die in peace don't you dare come out." filling the place with the last dirt, as she was about to run, Arya caught hold of her hand.

By now the men were close, and Erin also felt it, she immediately pulled her hands and ran in the other direction, without looking back.

Seeing one of the girls on the run, they immediately came after her, suppressing the distance between them.

And then they caught her by the hair, they pulling her backwards, and the first thing they did was slapping her, and as they did that they banged her head against the tree, knocking her unconscious.

Hiding in the brushes, Arya felt them they dragged something across the ground, and no eyes were need for her to know that it was her friend.

Erin's conscious body swept the ground with her head spilling out blood on the ground.

Arya's tears flowed like the fountain of living water, trying hard not to make a sound, swallowing her tears and pains…
