Chapter 9 - Chapter 8

EVIL REIGNS

"She was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour for frauding, ruthless murder and an attempt to murder. A close eye has been kept on her for the past four years. But it's rather unfortunate that she escaped a year ago" Lawyer Wilfred explained.

" What? Are you serious Sir? So you find this time so much more appropriate to let us know about her escape about a year ago? This is unbelievable of you as a lawyer sir" Jackie retorted.

" Keep calm Jackie, they know what they are doing. Let them do their job" Daphne from behind calming her down.

" But I don't understand one thing. I thought this lawyer here died from the gunshot right" Daphne interrogated curiously.

" My thoughts were the same until he showed up at my Dad's burial" Jackie replied anxiously.

" I wasn't killed, I was saved " The lawyer, dramatically but calmly blurted out to explain what happened that fateful day.

Flashback

The gun now was fixed keenly on my forehead ready to take me as its next prey. I looked fearfully into the pool of blood, Mr. Osei, now a lifeless body lay futile on the ground. The mention of heaven and hell from Gloria placidly evaded me from my thoughts.

I was simultaneously dawned on by a series of questions such as, "Was I ready to leave this world? Where would I go hereafter? I stared back at Gloria with fear hoping to find pity in her eyes but none was spotted in that hideous eyes of hers. Before I could speechlessly utter a forgiving prayer. " Paa w, Paaw" the gunshot.

I shut my eyes simultaneously with the gunshot waiting for the next to happen."But wait, why had I not fallen to the ground? Why was I still on my feet? Why was I not feeling pain" I asked myself.

Consciously, my eyes opened. I knew not where I was. "Is this heaven or hell?" I thought for a while. I sited the police immediately I opened my eyes. Even though my vision looked quite blurry, I could vividly spot him in his blue-black tightly stuck-in uniform with a pistol stuck into the left side of his waist. He looked serious about whatever he was doing. I scanned the place once more, even though my vision still looked much blurry.

I sat upright supporting myself with my downturned hand on the ground. There, I felt my palm touch a slightly cold thick liquid. I tentatively took a whiff but it was odourless, I then brought it towards the light source in the room which appeared from the window, it was a deep red liquid. "Could this be blood I thought uncertainly, I looked back to where I touched the anonymous liquid to trace it to its source. Behold, there lay two lifeless bodies lying diagonally to each other with blood running profusely from them in my direction.

"Was I in hell? I thought... What have I done to deserve all this oh dear God", I prayed.

I approached the Policeman and asked him why he was also in hell.

"Hey Mr. Policeman, you are also here too? When did you die and why? I asked but he didn't answer but rather burst out into laughter.

"Anyway I'm Wilfred, I was a lawyer on Earth and I was killed by a ruthless lady," I told the Policeman as he continued his laughter.

"I turned and surprisingly saw Mr Kelvin Clyde.

"Wow sir, you are here too, you died and made it to hell .....

Before I could complete my words, a punch was issued on my face.

Wake up stupid lawyer, you ain't dead okay? You are still on earth so stop hallucinating fool. "Mr Kelvin Clyde shouted after the punch.

Just then, I saw Gloria gnashing her teeth in pain on the ground with blood oozing profusely from her left arm.

"She was shot not you okay" Kelvin told me.

" Wheew" I sighed in relief.

"Sir your risky plan almost got me killed. You didn't arrive in time to save your dad"The lawyer said to Kelvin.

" It's rather unfortunate though that he died, I guess he wanted death himself. He failed to adhere to all prompts we gave him. If I hadn't got to know what his intentions were, the entire properties would have been in someone's hands " Kelvin replied.

" Thank God you changed the original documents with a fake one" The Lawyer added.

Officers, take these criminals away and call the ambulance to take my dad's corpse. Mr Clyde said with a film of tears in his eyes and sadness in his voice.

BACK TO REALITY

"So the actual fact is, I wasn't shot but Gloria was" Lawyer Wilfred explained to Jackie and Daphne.

I need to get going, we're are still on the lookout for Gloria, we suspect she knows something about your brother's strange disappearance " The Lawyer added and set off to leave.

Immediately Lawyer Wilfred stepped out, the two ladies burst out into laughter uncontrollably.

"Wow seriously?" The lawyer thought he was in hell?

" How silly of him" Daphne added.

On every recall of the lawyer's hallucinations, they burst into laughter, forgetting they have a boyfriend and a brother to look for...

After the strange interference from the anonymous from behind the door two days ago, I've been contemplating who it could be. I was already fed up with being in that filthy place. I missed my Dapne and Jackie.

I needed to help myself out if no one was going to. Gloria can do anything, even to the point of hurting my family. I needed to get out of here. I sat there contemplating on how to free myself.

I struggled with the ropes tied around my arms in the chair trying to break free. Luckily the rope was loosened a bit due to Jeoffery's playful deceit to release me the other time.

The rope broke free falling to the ground.

I hurriedly lifted my ass from the chair and tiptoed to the spooky door to make my way out of the house.

Then suddenly, I heard footsteps coming through the doorway.

"Ohh shit, what should I do now," I thought anxiously

Then a tricky plan struck me.

WRITER'S POV

The door to the room Kelvin was in burst open as one of the guards entered to deliver food and water to him. On entering, he stood there to watch the scene.

Guard 1 from the hall room: Hey is everything with you in there? He asked from the sofa he sat on in the hall, referring to the other guard in Kelvin's room.

Guard 2: yeah everything is cool here. The dumbass is still sleeping. He replied

Guard 1: Alright, just leave the food there and come let's continue the game.

Guard 2: Okay man, I'm coming and this time. I'll beat your ass.

The Guard placed the food down and left the room shutting the door but refusing to lock up

Meanwhile, Kelvin opened his right eye leaving the left unopened scanning the room for a clear scene. Seeing that all was clear, he got up from the chair and laughed silently knowing his plan of faking to be still tired and asleep succeeded.

Now he just needed to distract the only two guards in the house and make for the run.

"But how?" He thought.

They were two!! Two guards!!. How can he handle them alone? He thought.

He then made up his mind and made for the door.

Sneakily, he reached the doorway and could hear the two guards chatting loudly as they played their cards in the hall room.

To distract the guards, he picked a shoe he saw lying unaccompanied with its matching shoe and threw it out the backdoor window which quickly drew their attention.

"Go and check what it is," one of the guards said as they got alerted of an intruder. Kelvin stood hidden looking frustrated that he only distracted one.

"What should I do he thought," he thought.

"I need to take this one out on my own," he thought.

Kelvin then feeling raged, mastered an unimaginable strength and sneakily strangled the guard from behind till he fainted.

Now was his chance to escape. Before he did, he picked up the minigun that lay on the centre table and then burst the front door open ready to leave.

"Help!!! A voice that sounded tired said in a low tune.

The scream for help continued. Kelvin stood in dilemma as to whether he should save himself or help the anonymous voice that was screaming for help in a room in the hall.

Quickly, he moved to the door looking left and right to see whether it was safe. This time the voice was clearer and more familiar.

He stretched his hands to open the door.

Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain as if hit with something which made him let go of the door handle to his head feeling the pains.

He dropped to the floor and blacked out.
