Chapter 15 - Off the Beaten Path

The plan was simple, teach them how to defend themselves, however, that quickly grew in complexity. They were a stupid race, lacking technology, and only possessing a single strong warrior. This would take more than a bit of combat training before I could leave with a good conscience.

Crossing my arms, I kicked my legs up, leaning against a tree and enjoying the sun.

Looking at the previous chieftain, I thought to myself for a moment, before saying, "I can't remember if you had a name, so I'm just going to give you one."

Thinking for a long time, he sat patiently as I pondered, before finally, I said, "How about Mango?" I hesitantly said with a weak smile.

Seemingly invigorated by the words, I was shocked to watch him eagerly look at me.

"Glad you seem to like it, but I wonder if you truly understand me?" I responded.

Jumping to my feet, I limber up, calling to the Saibamen, "Stand!" I shouted loudly.

Quickly, the Saibamen leap to stand in front of me, ready to fulfill my commands.

Looking at the hundreds of creatures, I remembered their poor homes, hardly to be considered a home.

Noticing the abundant trees and rocks, I piece together my thoughts before instructing, "Mimic me."

Pulling my arm back, I swing forcefully at a tree, slicing through it with a kiai.

The large tree slowly tilts away from me, soon crashing into the ground with a thunderous crack.

The Saibamen quickly learn, copying my technique with only a few tries, and in a matter of minutes have cleared a section of the forest.

"That went faster than anticipated," I commented.

"Return," I commanded.

In a flash, the Saibamen were by my side, without an ounce of hesitation.

Reaching forward, I concentrate deeply, upturning the winds around me, and causing a breeze to careen past me, pushing some of the creatures off their feet.

Hundreds of logs gravitate upwards, soon finding themselves being thrown into a distant pile.

As sweat beads on my forehead, I think to myself, fine-tuned control is hard!

A rumble in the ground shakes violently for a moment, and soon energy warbles around the tips of my fingers, firing off in countless thin beams toward the cleared land as it reduces it to dust and rubble.

As the dust settles, the land is shown to be ravaged by attacks, upturned soil, splintered trees, and divots of varying sizes.

Never done this on such a scale before, hope I have the control necessary, I thought to myself nervously.

A dense surge of energy emanates from my hand as I direct both my hands toward the area. Like heat rippling in the air, a sudden force crashes down into the rubble-covered land, flattening it.

Exhaling deeply, I wipe the sweat from my brow before walking toward the flattened area, motioning for the creature to follow.

Thinking to myself as I looked around, I said, "While I don't know much in terms of advanced building, I can probably make some basic homes for you all..."

Reaching toward the giant log pile, I pulled log after log, carefully being several crude homes until I'd exhausted the pile, and subsequently myself.

Sitting down for the first time in hours, I noticed the sun had begun to set.

"Damn it, I wish I hadn't sat down..." I commented to myself.

Looking at the sunset, I thought to myself, I haven't talked to anyone really in a while, guess it's my own fault though, so I can't complain.

Suddenly, I'm struck by an idea.

Standing up I fly over to the ship, rummaging around the attack ball, before eventually finding a scouter.

"Sweet!" I exclaimed.

Popping it onto the side of my head, I said eagerly as I flipped through its settings, "Man I'm glad I had Raditz and Gero teach me how to use the scouter!"

Pausing after saying this, I suddenly remember the friends I've made, the characters who I looked up to as a child.

My movements slow as my hands drop to my sides, leaning back into the attack pod, and staring up into its roof.

I remember my past life, my parents, my sister, and the friends I used to have.

Remembering back when my sister and I would play outside, not a care in the world, just being kids.

Standing up, I exited the attack ball, slowly climbing the ladder to the top floor.

Walking to the exit, I looked to the droves of creatures who looked to me, to the Saibamen who'd grown used to my commands, nothing more than tools.

Sitting down on the ramp to the ship, the Saibamen approached me, seemingly expecting some sort of command.

Pulling my knees up to my chin I stared off into the setting sun, wrapping my arms around my legs I buried my face into my knees, quietly sitting beside myself.

"I'm sorry..." I muttered quietly.

This is what I wanted... I thought to myself.

Jumping up, I stretch, before heading inside.

After a strenuous six months, something of an actual society has begun to appear, the creatures which I finally realized were the Moginaians had begun to work together beyond crude hunting.

With a deep rumble, I finish clearing a section of the forest, the Moginaians eagerly walking past me with their crude farming tools in hand.

Mango approaches me, asking, "Chief, when we fight?"

"Sorry, I got a little caught up with this, we can head off elsewhere and fight right now," I apologized.

Rocketing off toward the mountains, we promptly land, around us lay a landscape peppered with previous battles.

As Mango stretched his legs, I commented, "You've picked up my habit I see."

A bit nettled by this, Mango retorted, "If work then work."

Translations a little scuffed, but it works, I thought to myself.

Mango powers up, transforming into his combat form, with a shiny reddish hue overtaking his once yellow form.

Rocketing toward me, Mango's fists crack against my own, letting out a large boom.

Dropping below him, I crash into him with a kick, sending him hurtling backward into a mountain.

Racing toward him I hurl ki blasts toward him, cracking the mountain with each blast, before sending him hurtling through, leaving a large crater in place of its peak.

Crashing down into the ground next to him, Mango crosses his arms, firing a blast of fire at me.

Throwing my arms outward, a blue barrier surrounds me suddenly, sparing me from the intense flames.

Racing forward Mango plants countless punches into my barrier. Dropping the barrier, Mango stumbles forward, allowing me to thrust my knee into his stomach, forcing him to his knees.

Mango holds his stomach, sweating profusely, looking at me electricity suddenly envelops his horns, rapidly racing towards me.

Swatting it away, I kick Mango in the chin, knocking him out.

Taking a deep breath, I grab Mango by one of his arms, hoisting him over my shoulder before heading off toward the village.

A sudden twinge hits my senses, a distant power level is approaching.

"It's weak, but they could be suppressing their energy," I commented.

Racing toward the village, I promptly drop Mango off with the Moginaians.

Looking at the Saibamen, I said, "Someone's here, protect the Moginaians."

Exploding from my place, I raced toward the power level, noticing it suddenly stopped moving, I hasten my pace.

---

As the ship landed, the door slowly opened, with a small ramp extending out onto the planet. A large crew numbering roughly 30 men quickly funneled out of the ship, behind them all a large man with a thick beard and a rosy redness in his cheeks.

Taking a swig of dark liquor, Captain Gurt wiped his mouth, commanding the men loudly, "Get that Skylink Antenna set up, don't want any of the locals to pester us while workin'!"

A young recruit for the Astrofire Pirates, Syn Sinclair has been given all the tasks that others despise, a "lesson" given to him by the captain himself in an effort to, "Teach a youngin' a thing or two about hard work."

Heaving the heavy antenna from the ship, Syn's face grew red as he slowly stepped out of the ship.

"Rookie, move yer' ass!" Gurt reprimanded.

Through strains and groans, Syn responded sheepishly, "Yes sir!"

Setting it down on the ground, Syn breathed heavily as the gunner Yazzo approached him, "I still don't get why Gurt brought you on, not like you provide anything other than a mop."

Scoffing, Yazzo put on a scouter and pulled a gun off his back before walking off toward a large group.

Syn soon had the device up and running, with it beeping and whirring as it came online, a large antenna unfolding from atop it, and sticking up into the air.

As the device made a beep, suddenly it began to beep loudly and violently, before soon the beeps grew faster until the device exploded.

Syn looked on in shock as his crewmates turned to him, laughing, Gurt found no humor in this though.

Walking over, Captain Gurt took another swig of his liquor, before grabbing Syn by the collar, "Ya' damn punk, do ya know how much that runs a man!"

As the Captain drew his hand above his head to strike him, Syn flinched, stopping the punch.

"Damn coward, can't even take a punishment after breaking our shit, you'd be worth more as organs than a crewmate!" Gurt insulted.

Tossing Syn to the ground, Gurt spit on him, "Only reason I don't is because of your shitty brother," and soon turned to walk away.

Syn quickly stands up, clenching his fists, before sternly saying, "Don't talk bad about my brother!"

Turning around, Gurt's expression snaps Syn back to reality, where he puts his hands in front of him before saying, "Captain, I'm sorry..."

Quickly walking toward him, Gurt rolled his sleeves up, exclaiming, "Lemme show ya' how I was taught you shitty brat!"

Hurling his fist toward Syn, he struck him in the face, knocking him on his back. Getting on top of him, Gurt repeatedly struck Syn in the face, bruising and bloodying him.

Getting up off him, Gurt kept his eyes on Syn as he moved to walk away, soon bumping into me, stopping in his tracks.

Turning to look at me, he at first looks angry, before looking confused, "Who the fuck are you."

Glancing over at Syn, I punch Gurt in the stomach, dropping him to his knees.

Yazzo and the crewmates all point their guns at me, Yazzo shouts, "Step away from cap'n or I'll put a fucking hole in you!"

Walking over to Syn, I check his pulse, before flicking him on the forehead, waking him.

In a dazed stupor, Syn slowly raised up, before slowly saying, "What's going on..."

"Howdy," I said plainly.

Yazzo reiterates, stepping closer, "I said step back-"

Grabbing the barrel of his gun I squeeze, crumpling it, Yazzo still fires, blowing the gun to pieces.

Gurt points a revolver he had hidden in his chest pocket, blasting me in the face.

Gurt grins, laughing to himself, "Idiot!"

Glaring down at Gurt, I reprimand him, "Man, didn't you see what I did to the gun?"
