Chapter 33 - 33: An impossible offer [pt3]

Olivier looked at his screen with eyes filled with disbelief and regret. His hand had typed those words faster than his brain had processed the situation.

And now he was stuck in an unnecessary fight he had not wanted to participate in.

[Hey kid, are you scared? You can still back down if you want to. I know you are regretting your decision. Tell you what, if you win then you can have my place as the crystal guard.]

Olivier's opponent taunted him openly. Had the man not done that, Olivier might have swallowed his pride and asked to take this match back.

But that was not possible now. That insult combined with Olivier's lack of rationality due to lack of sleep was making him cranky.

Combine all this with his massive pride that refused to back down, and you had an explosive combination. Olivier could not back down even if he desperately wished for it.

His pride would not allow that to happen.

[Boss Xiao, is it alright if the kid fights Elder Entis? He is one of the best in our guild even. The kid might be crushed before he knows it.]

One of the other elders decided to question Olivier's skills. And what is more? He did this in the world chat so that Olivier could read this as well.

'Ugh, I hate being sleep deprived. It makes my temper shorten by a lot. No Olivier, control yourself. Do not fall for the obvious taunt.'

Olivier took in a few deep breaths and turned off the world chat. He had a feeling that his blood pressure would rise even more if he looked at it.

[Olivier, we will only start this duel if you want to take part in it. There is no need for you to prove yourself]

Boss Xiao assured Olivier but he was already cueing for the fight. He had accepted the invitation and now was checking the gear he had on.

[It is alright. I do not mind fighting for my honor and my position. But remember, my freedom is still my own]

With those last words, Olivier quickly entered the arena. This would be a 1-vs-1 fight with both players' levels set to 50.

Since it was a close arena fight, Olivier was at a disadvantage due to his long-range weapon. But he was still ready to take on the assassin.

....

"Hey brat, it is not too late for you to back out."

The assassin taunted Olivier before the match started. The prep room had both players' mics turned on and they could communicate.

"No need. Elder Entis needs to be the one to back down. After all, people get more fragile as they get older."

Olivier taunted back the elder. He could guess the man to be in his 30s or 40s from the voice. And while that might not seem 'old' to most people, it was practically ancient in the gaming world.

"You brat! I am only 45 years old. Let this 'brother' show you how to play this game right. Oh, if you feel like crying then do let me know. I will give you a minute to rest."

The assassin was ticked off. He hated to be reminded of how old he was. Even his family taunted him for playing games at his age and not working a legit job.

Even if Elder Entis earned more than his entire family combined, they still did not respect him because 'gaming' was not a legit job for them. And he needed to find a 'real' job at his age.

"Wow, 45 is practically ancient. You do deserve your title as an 'elder'."

That was it.

That comment made Entis lose his mind. And all his desire to hold back against this kid went down the drain.

[MATCH READY IN 3…2…1…GO]

Elder Entis decided to use his ultimate technique as soon as the match started.

[Shadow steps activated. Duration 20 sec.]

This skill increased the assassin's movement speed by the original amount and the assassin managed to break through the shooter's defense.

The assassin did not even give the controller any chance to counterattack before he was in front of the other avatar.

"This is it kid. Take the silent killer to your face."

[Silent Kill activated. Using all the MP points. Using half HP points]

Silent Killer was an assassin's ultimate technique they got at lvl 200. The more MP and HP you put in this, the more it would hurt the other player.

It was truly a skill worthy of being called an ultimate technique. And this technique was also what made the assassin class a 'fragile cannon.'

All assassin skills were related to draining HP and MP and that was why they could not function alone in a match.

[Wow, look at Elder Entis go.]

[I feel sorry for the kid. It was over before he knew it. But hey, next time would be better.]

[Man, this surely did not last long. I hope the kid is not crushed.]

The on-lookers watched the match. They expected the controller to be dead, but that seemed not to be the case.

"Hey kid, how low is your HP now? 10%? 15%? Even less? I will not even need to boost my damage to take you out now."

Entis bragged as he stood his ground. He had a lot of confidence in his technique.

"Wow, you speak a lot for someone who sucks at this game. I have never seen someone miss their targets before from this close."

Olivier's taunting voice was back.

Once the smoke cleared out, everyone watched the shooter go on the offensive.

They expected to see a low amount of HP left on top of the shooter's head but the bar was surprisingly in good shape.

And by that, it meant that the bar was still 80% full. Somehow, this kid had managed to avoid the assassin's ultimate.

"H-How is that possible? Is this some kind of bug? Did you hack the game and your avatar to avoid damage? Kid, are you using mods?"

Elder Entis asked in a shocked rage. He felt as if he had been punched in the gut by someone.

This kid had shattered his pride as an assassin by avoiding all the possible damage. What was more? This kid did not even sound impressed.

"Huh? Why would I want to hack this game if I know how to play it right? Your precision for your moves just sucked so I avoided it. It is not my fault you suck at this game."

Olivier repeated his jabs for the second time while shooting the assassin.

The assassin was shocked to still and out of MP points to do anything. Olivier's accuracy allowed him to hit the weak points of the assassin for more damage.

And he was also able to predict the path Elder Entis would take in the future. It was an entirely one-sided battle when what anyone was saying.

[H-Hey, what happened? Am I dreaming or did that kid just manage to do the impossible?]

[If you are dreaming then I must be dreaming the same dream.]

[I think we need to get a mod here to check for us. That was surely hacking, right?]
