Chapter 35 - 35: An impossible offer [pt5]

Olivier quickly took Terry's advice and ran away from the incoming questions and requests. He was sure that tomorrow would be a hectic day for him as well. But that was a problem future-Olivier would have to deal with.

Somehow, despite all that was happening in Olivier's life, his dream was calm and sweet. He fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.

On the other hand, the assassin who challenged Olivier was not having a good night. Elder Entis was a man full of pride and he also had excellent skills at Echoes.

There was no way a rookie who was 160 levels below him and had 5 years experience gap had been able to win against Olivier.

There had not been some kind of trick, some kind of hack that allowed the kid to win.

So Elder Entis decided to do some research before he made any accusation. And his first stop was the gaming form.

Of course, since Elder Entis could not post a controversial comment on his main ID, he decided to create a backup one and ask this question.

[Is there any mod or hack that allowed someone to not receive any damage in an online fight? Asking this for a friend.]

Elder Entis posted this question and waited for an answer.

He was someone who was used to fast responses. But that was because of his original account's massive following and people's interest in him.

A blank account did not have that kind of response.

So, the only things Elder Entis got for his effort were a few trolls and non-sense answers. One triggered Elder Entis a lot.

[Lol, noob. Did you get bullied by someone in-game? I am sure you will get better.]

"Fuck. I am not a noob and I am also not a loser. It is all because the Controller cheated during this match. And I will prove it."

A quick search online found no results. Most mods for this game could not work on the real server of the game because of the real-time data sharing.

But that did not discourage Elder Entis. He decided to take the topic on expert forms and ask a famous Modder this question.

The modder's name was 'New Make.' No one knew the real name or identity of this modder, but everyone acknowledged his skills in this field.

So far, this was the person you asked any questions about game theory to. And that was what Elder Entis was here as well.

The famous modder was currently live-streaming and his spider avatar jumped all over the place.

Elder Entis decided to ask his question in the live chat, but it was overshadowed by all the other comments. He tried again and again, but the streamer did not read his comment.

"Fuck this. If you do not pay attention to me by normal means then I will have to bring out the heavy guns. Do not test me because I will do so as well."

Elder Entis threatened no one as he spoke. But he was sure that his 'secret weapon' would not fail him.

Now, what was this 'secret weapon' you ask? It was simple - money.

That was right. If the modder would not pay attention to his questions normally, then Elder Entis would have to spend money to highlight his question. That way, the modder would not be able to ignore him.

'It hurts. My bank balance is going down and I am not happy. But I need to endure this for the sake of my pride. I have come too far to back down now.'

Elder Entis assured himself that he was doing the right thing. But even then, he felt drained.

He looked at his highlighted message on the stream and the spider avatar finally paused during his gaming process.

"Hmm, you want to know if it is possible to mod Echoes online mode for multi-player and not get any damage. Well, it is possible in theory but I will not advise this. You can receive heavy penalties if you are caught and games that share information in real-time are a pain. If you are asking me if I tried? Well, I did and the result was not pretty."

Once that was said, the modder continued to play his game.

But this was all the evidence Elder Entis needed to frame Controller.

Now that he knew that it was 'theoretically' possible to mod this game in real-time, Elder Entis was ready to expose the controller.

He quickly opened his complaint box and types his message to the quality control of the game.

[Respected sir, I would like to report a modder….]

Elder Entis was about to press the send button when he paused. His brain flashed back to the harsh scolding he had received from Boss Xiao as well as the warning.

'Do not do anything stupid that would cause us to lose the guild war tomorrow. I will throw you out if I find out you did something to harm our standing. I am already pissed that you went ahead and fought the kid I worked so hard to take.'

"Maybe this complaint can wait for tomorrow. If the kid is cheating at this game, then it will be exposed tomorrow anyway. I do not need to make any effort."

The opposite guilds would not stay quiet if the kid was cheating. They would give Elder Entis more evidence once they see the controller in action.

So that was why, Elder Entis saved his mail and decided to go to sleep. He could not wait for tomorrow to come so that he could have all his evidence.

....

The next day was uneventful. Olivier went to school, he did as he was told to and finally, the gaming club time approached.

However, there was something different about today. The gaming club was locked and Olivier did not have a key.

"Hey, why is it locked? Let me call the captain and ask."

Clement sounded surprised as well. He quickly opened his phone to ask Terry this question. But Olivier somehow knew it was related to the guild war that was going to take place today.

"Olivier, the captain said to go back home and finish everything before the guild war. But he forgot to tell this us yesterday because he was busy. What should we do now? Head home?"

Olivier did not care much about this topic. He would rather open his game just as the guild war was about to start. That way, he would not have to care about unnecessary messages and other things happening at the same time.

"Let us head home then. By the way, did you get into the guild you wanted to?"

Olivier asked Clement and the other teen smiled a large smile.

"I got in. Those people were surprised but they finally decided that I was a good fit for their guild. Watch us crush everyone else tonight."

Clement sounded happy so Olivier decided not to break his immersion in the game.

As for himself? Olivier was looking forward to what had changed in the guild war. The last time he participated in a guild war was before he officially took up coaching.

This would be interesting this time around.
