Chapter 34 - 34: An impossible offer [pt4]

The onlookers were shocked at the small amount of damage Controller took. A move that should have knocked him had only chipped away at 20% of his health.

[Mod. Someone gets a mod here.]

Somewhere in a dungeon, a poor mod who did nothing wrong and was just minding his own business received one pin. The mod ignored it for now, wanting to finish his dungeon first.

But then that one pin turned to two, four, and ten.

In seconds, the mod had his inbox flooded with requests he could not ignore. Especially when the senders turned out to be a bunch of famous players. He quickly made his way out of the dungeon and headed toward the match arena.

The room information said that the match was taking place between an assassin and an under-leveled shooter.

[I am a mod. I received your request for assistance. What do you want me to do?]

The mod asked while trying not to be annoyed at the players. It was in his job description to always be active and on call.

[Check for cheats.]

[Yeah, one of the players is hacking for sure.]

The mod frowned as soon as he heard those words. Hacking was a serious crime in their game and could get one suspended for doing so. So, not a lot of high-level players tried to hack the game.

But sometimes, high-level players used mods like aim bots to boost accuracy in high-intense matches.

[You want me to check the assassin for mods? Give me a moment.]

[No, not to the assassin, check the shooter. Is he using some kind of damage reduction on himself?]

One of the elders quickly corrected the mod before he could check.

The mod was surprised by this sudden interruption. He looked at the seemingly normal-looking lvl 40 shooter with a surprised expression.

Lvl 40 was too low for someone to start modding their game. Usually, people waited until they hit lvl 70 and the game got difficult before they used mods.

[Alright, wait a second.]

The mod quickly went offline to sync the player info. A glance told the mod that everything was alright. There was no suspicious activity taking place in front of him.

[Everything is clear. There had been no mods used by the player. Nor is there anything else that can cause a problem for you.]

The mod assured the players in front of him. He was sure that it would reassure the players and they would finally let him go.

[No way. That is impossible. Are you sure you did not make any mistakes mod.]

[Yeah, check again. There must be some kind of suspicious activity. Otherwise, how would you explain what is going on down there?]

One of the players asked. That question irked the mod's mood. But he decided to pay attention to the match.

'Let's see what these people are making a fuss about.'

Down in the arena, the shooter had the upper hand. The 80% HP had fallen to a respectable 75%. Meanwhile, the assassin was at a mere 10%. The match was as good as over.

But the assassin decided he did not want to go out like this. The assassin wanted to take out as much of the shooter's HP as possible.

So, he used Last Skill. It was a move that would make the other person's HP fall by the user's own HP. In turn, the user would die due to the HP drain.

The assassin rushed at the shooter and a small explosion happened that knocked the shooter down.

[Match over. Winner - Controller.]

[W-Wait, he got hit this time. The HP went down to 65%]

One of the players commented as they watched it happen. The mod did not what all this fuzz was about.

"Well, yeah. The HP went down because a person got hit. That is what happens in games. Now, is your issue solved? Can I go now?"

The players wanted to keep the mod with them and explain to him what had happened before. But they could also see that the mod was getting fed up with their bullshit now.

They did not want to get banned a day before the guild war.

[I will be taking my lead now. Please do not call for me today for insignificant things I will ban you all. And for the last time, no hacks were used during this match so do not trouble other mods to look for them.]

The mod logged off once he was finished speaking to the players.

He got so many cases of the same thing happening that it was tiring for him to check it all.

...…

Olivier noticed it the moment a mod entered the room.

Usually, he did not bother hiding his skills. But things could get complicated if a mod decided to check his whole history.

Not because he had done anything bad or unusual, but because his account would get banned for the time it would take to check his account.

Olivier would rather deal with the whole procedure after the guild war was over. The rewards would make up for the he had to deal with.

"Y-You surely cheated in the match. Otherwise, how could you explain your HP not dropping even after taking so many hits?"

Elder Entis asked once he respawned. His loss had not registered in his mind yet.

"Old man, isn't it obvious how I managed to survive your attacks? I dodged them when you stacked your skills. You should try it if you have skills."

Elder Entis was insulted by Olivier's words. And he was still not convinced that Olivier did not cheat during the match.

So, as soon as Elder Entis was able to, he would get a mod to check this footage and fight data. There must be something the kid did to not take damage.

And then, Elder Entis would expose the kid.

[Uhm, you both fought well. And I am also sure that this match cleared up any misunderstandings. And Entis, come with me for a second. I need to talk with you.]

Boss Xiao took the elder with him. Meanwhile, everyone looked at Olivier like he was a freak of nature.

The tense silence lasted for only a few minutes before one of the elders decided to break it.

[SOOO, what kind of cheats do you use to even fool the mod? Come on, do not be shy. You can tell us your secret and we promise to keep it for you.]

[Yeah. I will even pay you if you share your secret with me. All you need to do is to tell me how you cheated the system]

This was all said in a private chat. But Olivier's harassment did not stop there. His inbox was being spammed with constant messages by these people as well.

[If you are too shy to tell us in front of people, then you can contact me here. My number is XXXX-XXXX-XXXX]

Everyone wanted to be Olivier's friend now and everyone wanted to use him as well. If he did not need the support of these people tomorrow, Olivier would have logged off by now.

/Olivier, leave for today. I will make an excuse for you so hurry up before chaos ensures. /

Thankfully, Terry proved to be a good friend and helped Olivier run away in time.
