Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight

Athena POV

I couldn't sleep, which wasn't the worse thing. The worse thing was the echoing of snores from each vampire as the slept in there beds. I tossed and turned in my bed before I felt the hunger burn in the back of my throat. I let out a sigh before sitting up in my bed and seeing that the moon was full tonight and the stars surrounded the bright moon in a way I envied. I pulled the blanket off my body and stood to my feet, walking across the dorm room and making it over to the door. I quietly opened the door, looking out into the hall to see how empty they sounded, how empty they looked with all the Vampires sleeping soundly. I crept out into the hall, shutting the door behind me and walking down the long hall. I made sure each one of my steps were so silent that it wouldn't wake a mouse. I turned the corner and climbed the stair case. When I reached the lunch room, I entered hoping that there would be something left. I looked around for a moment before letting out a sigh, knowing no way a Vampire would leave any kind of blood bag left. I exited the lunch room and made my way down the long hall, exploring the castle more. I came to a door with a sign that says "Do not enter!" I knit my brows together as I felt the familiar warm sensation like I knew there was a library behind the door. I pushed the door open and my mouth dropped slightly when I see a huge library, large wooden cases filled with books in every spot. The walls were wooden and craved with flower details. I slightly smiled when I walked over to a lamp and turned it on. approaching a book case I tilted my head to the side as I read the bindings of titles on each book before my eye had caught something. "Diaries of Ember" I whispered, pulling the book out and opening the cover. I see the neat cursive hand writing. "Dear Diary, It's 1819 and I met an amazing man today. He was kind, gentle and had the most amazing smile...I hope to meet him again tomorrow" I read out loud before shaking my head and putting the book back in the shelf and then continuing my walk around the library until another book had caught my eye, causing me to let out a giggle. I reached out for it, taking it off the shelf to read the over. "Really? Twilight?" I rolled my eyes. "I see you've found this old place" A voice suddenly spoke causing to halt to a stop, frozen in fear I didn't dare take a breath. I knew who it was before he even walk heavily across the wooden floor and stood in front of me. "H-Hyde..." I stuttered out. "Twilight?" He arched his brow high. "I just....I uhh. I thought it was funny that it was in here" I nervous laughed before putting the book back. "Hm?" he nodded, staring at me. "I'm sorry, I know I'm not supposed to be in here but...Uh it was too tempting" I informed Hyde. He let out a soft chuckle "No...it's alright. This place could use an undead to roam it once again" He informed me. "Not you?" I questioned. "I don't come in here as much" He says to me. "Because you hide in your office all day?" I pointed out. He knit his brows together "Sorry" I shake my head. "It's none of my business" I added. "That's alright, you're right. I hide in there" He admitted to me. "Why?" I asked him. "I think I'd be okay seeing you more and Matthew a lot less" I informed him. He let out a soft chuckle "Matthew can be hard on vampires but he's got the best heart, he wants to see every Vampire learn and do better" Hyde says to me. "Maybe all the other Vampires but he just hates me" I say. Hyde shakes his head "Matthew doesn't hate anyone, not even you" He smirked. "I have a question" I spoke after a moment of silence. "Sure" he nodded. "Do all Vampires have powers?" I asked him. "Far as I know, yes" He informed me. Although I knew his answer before he even spoke it, I didn't ease my mind. He knit his brows together. "Why?" He then asked me. I shrugged my shoulders "I don't know." "Is this because you didn't find out your power today?" He then asked me. "I guess...A little" I shrugged again before he let out a soft chuckle. "I wouldn't sweat it, Most Vampires don't come into their powers until they've gotten a sense of control" He explained. "Contr--" Suddenly a loud, agonizing scream had cut me off. I slightly jumped "What the hell was that?" I breathed out. In the instant Hyde was out of the library. I ran towards where he had left and turned the corner to find him leaning over someone. "That's going on?" I asked, getting a close view to see that there had been a vampire lying on the floor. It's eyes were blackness and it's face was displayed with pure white with black veins. "Is she..." Hyde cut me off. "Dead...yes" Hyde nodded. He let out a sigh, shaking his head. "Why...isn't she ash?" I questioned. "Vampires don't turn to ash when they die. Not unless it's by sunlight. This was...something else" He shook his head. He then got rose to his feet before turning to me. "You mustn't tell anyone about this Athena, do you understand?" He asked me. I knit my brows together but instead of asking anymore questions I nodded my head. "Good, go straight to bed and do not let anyone else see you" He instructed me. "O-okay" I stuttered out before turning on my heel and quickly making myself back to the dorms where the vampires still slept soundly. "Athena?" Bliss sits up as I past by her bed. "Where have you bed?" She yawned slightly as she began rubbing her eyes. "I uhhh, had to pee" It was a lame excuse, knowing I had been gone for hours but it was the best I could come up with. "Uh, alright" She laid back down and I let out a sigh before getting back into bed. My mind flipped thought back to what Hyde had said. "Vampires don't turn to ash when they die, not unless it's by sunlight. This was something else." What had killed her then? My mind felt like it was racing while I tried to drift off to sleep, I couldn't stop thinking about the complete look of fear that was on her face.
