Chapter 9 - Life in danger

Her eyes shot open, and she gasped for air as she looked around in confusion. she felt a sharp pain in her head. Suddenly, the memories came flooding back, and the first thought that came to mind was her baby. "My baby!" she cried out in anguish, tears streaming down her cheeks. Her eyes shot open and the first thing that came to mind was her baby. "My baby." she cried, holding her tummy.

The last thing she remembered was the car crash and the fear that her unborn child might not survive. But as her friend Susan rushed to her side, she tried to calm her down. "It's fine. The baby is fine," Susan said, holding her hand. They both looked at her belly, and there was a sense of relief that washed over them.

With her heart pounding, she looked around frantically, trying to get her bearings. It took a few moments for her to realize that she was in a hospital bed, surrounded by beeping machines and worried faces. "What happened?" she asked, her voice shaking. "You had an accident, but you and the baby are going to be okay," Susan said, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "The doctors have been monitoring you closely, and everything looks good." The words were a relief, but she still couldn't shake the feeling of fear and uncertainty that gripped her.

Susan who was sitting next to her, quickly reassured her again. "It's fine. The baby is fine," she said in a calming voice. She gently rubbed her friend's back and helped her sit up. The panic slowly subsided and was replaced with relief as she realized that her baby was okay. She took a deep breath and turned to Susan, grateful for her presence. "Thank you, Susan. I don't know what I would do without you," she said, wiping away tears. It was then that she realized just how lucky she was to have such a wonderful friend by her side.

Susan sat down next to Kim on the bed, taking a deep breath before she spoke. "But don't you think the accidents are becoming too frequent? It's as if someone intentionally wants you and the baby dead," Susan said, her voice tinged with concern.

She had been there for her friend, through thick and thin, but lately, the accidents had been piling up, and Susan couldn't help but worry. Kim had always been strong, but with a baby on the way, things were different now.

"I don't know, Su. It's possible, but it could also just be a string of bad luck. I don't want to jump to conclusions without proof. It might all just be a coincidence, right?" Kim said, trying to push the thought out of her mind. "I mean, accidents happen all the time, don't they?"

Susan shook her head. "Not like this, Kim. I think you need to be careful. Maybe it's time to call the police and have them investigate."

Kim nodded, feeling a sense of unease settle in the pit of her stomach. She knew that Susan was right. If someone was really out to get her and her baby, she needed to take action. It was time to stop living in denial and face the reality of the situation

Susan shook her head. "I understand what you're saying, but I can't shake this feeling that something isn't right. It's too much to be just coincidences."

Kimberly sighed, knowing that Susan had a point. She had been in two car accidents in the past months, there had been a gas leak in the house, she'd tripped on something while she went for antenatal in the hospital and each time, she and her unborn child had been lucky to escape with only minor injuries. She couldn't help but wonder if someone was out to get her.

Kim nodded slowly. "I hear you, Susan. And I promise to do everything in my power to keep you and the baby safe. We can start by investigating these accidents and see if there's any evidence of foul play."

Kim smiled weakly, grateful for Susan's support. "Thank you, I don't know what I'd do without you." She rubbed her growing belly, feeling a wave of protectiveness wash over her.

"Enough of the thank you. Just take care of yourself for me okay?"

Kicks and groaning filled the room, echoing off the walls and shattering the silence. The sounds of someone in immense pain were impossible to ignore. Every breath came out in ragged gasps and every movement was accompanied by more kicks and groans.

It was clear that whatever was causing this person's agony was intense and unrelenting. The others in the room looked on, their faces etched with concern and confusion. No one knew what to do to ease the person's suffering, but one thing was certain: the sounds of pain would not be silenced anytime soon.

"It was a simple mission. Get her to lose the pregnancy and you failed," the lady yelled, her voice filled with rage. With each words, she kicked at the man , who hung his head in despair and continued to suffer.

She paced back and forth in the small, windowless room, her high heels clicking on the concrete floor. As she spoke, she kicked a nearby chair, sending it flying across the room. The man standing before her flinched, but said nothing. He knew better than to argue with her when she was in one of her moods. Instead, he just stood there, his eyes downcast, waiting for her to finish her tirade. When she was finally done, he cleared his throat and spoke softly. "I'm sorry," he said. "I'll make it right."

"You had better. I don't want that baby to survive. If you have to kill her, then do it. You can't let her have that child. It'll ruin my plans. Do you understand me?"

"Yes, Mistress."

"Good. Now, are you ready to do as I ask?"

He nodded, but continued to look down at the floor, not daring to look her in the eye.

"Follow me," she said, smiling with fake gentleness.
