Chapter 13 - Trust no one

The look on her face will tell you she's not in a good mood. Her furrowed brow and pursed lips were a clear indication that something was bothering her. "Where is this darn phone," she muttered, frustration seeping into her voice. She lifted the pillows from the couch one by one, tossing them aside with a sharp tug. You can almost see the tension in her body as she searches for the missing device.

The cushions flew in every direction as she searched for her missing device. She had torn the living room apart looking for it, but it was nowhere to be found. With a sigh, she slumped onto the couch, staring blankly at the ceiling.

"How frustrating!" she exclaimed. "The task was straightforward: locate and execute."

There was a team of people under her command, and yet they still couldn't seem to get the job done. She had given explicit instructions, provided them with all the necessary resources, and yet here she was, no closer to completing the mission.

It made her question the point of having people under her if she would still end up doing the work herself.

"And what could be bothering such a pretty lady?" she heard a voice say. Startled, she looked up and screamed in joy. It was her best friend, Kim. They hadn't seen each other in over a year and it was a complete surprise.

They hugged and laughed, reminiscing about old times. After a while, they settled down and started talking about what was new in their lives.

"I wasn't expecting you." Susan said, a look of surprise on her face. "Yeah, I wanted it to be a surprise. How have you been?" Kim replied with a smile.

"Lonely without you," Susan said, a hint of sadness in her voice. "Glad you're back."

Kim pulled Susan into a warm embrace, feeling grateful to be home with her. "I missed you too, Sue. But I'm here now, and I'm not going anywhere."

Susan looked up at Susan and smiled through her tears, feeling comforted by her presence. "I'm glad," she whispered. "I'm really glad."

The two held each other for a few more moments, savoring the feeling of being reunited. Finally, Kim pulled back and looked at Susan with a mischievous glint in his eye. "So, what do you say we go get some pizza and catch up on everything I've missed?"

Susan laughed, feeling lighter than she had in weeks. "Sounds perfect."

The restaurant wasn't high class but it was decent enough. With its flickering candlelight and cozy ambiance, it was the perfect spot for two friends to catch up over a meal.

They chatted amiably as they ate, savoring each bite of their food and enjoying the simple pleasure of good company. As they talked, the noise of the restaurant melted away and they were lost in their own world, laughing and reminiscing about old times.

It was a moment of pure joy and contentment, a reminder that sometimes the best things in life are the simplest.

Kim leaned in closer, her brow furrowed with concern, "So tell me, what was bothering you?" she asked.

"Don't mind that lousy workers of mine," Susan muttered, frustration clear in her voice. "I needed them to do a job for me and they failed."

Kim nodded sympathetically, "I'm sorry to hear that," she said. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

Sue shook her head, "I don't think so," she said. "I just need to figure out how to fix this mess they've made."

"Well, if you change your mind, you know where to find me," Kim said, offering a reassuring smile. "Sometimes it helps to have a fresh perspective on things."

"I'll keep that in mind when something pops up. That aside, let's talk about you," Susan said. "You said you'd be gone for 4-5 months but you stayed for almost a year. Where did you stay? How's the baby?"

She smiled and took a deep breath. As she made to speak, Kim hesitated. She remembered the words of her uncle, still fresh in her mind.

"Be careful Kim. Trust no one. No one should know where you stayed or where the baby is. You don't who is whom and the fact that you were being attacked while you still were pregnant meant that there is someone out there who does not want you or the baby alive. "

" I promise to be careful uncle. "

" Good! And you don't need to worry about the hospital. It's been closed down. And every detail about you has been wiped off."

"What!" Kim exclaimed in shock. "But what about the doctors and nurses and...

"they've been taken care off. Just do well to watch yourself out there."

She knew that her uncle was right. The situation was too dangerous to take any chances. She had to be careful and keep her guard up at all times.

It was just a matter of time before they would come looking for her and the baby. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She had to be strong for the baby's sake. She couldn't let anything happen to him. She made a silent vow to protect him, no matter what.

"trust me Girl, I have no idea how I got there. I got on a bus and fell asleep, leaving my destination completely up to fate. When I woke up, I found myself in a completely unfamiliar place. It was disorientating and scary, but I made the best of it. I explored the area and met some friendly locals who helped me get my bearings. It turned out to be a happy accident, as I discovered a new place and made some new friends along the way. It just goes to show that sometimes the best adventures happen when we least expect them. And as for the baby, he's doing great! It wasn't easy finding someone to take him in though but I eventually did."

Susan's eyes widened with curiosity. "Wow, that sounds incredible. Did you learn anything new while you were there?"

I nodded. "Yes, I learned so much about myself and what's truly important in life. It was a transformative experience that I'll never forget."

"Good for you dueling. Now you can get back to your life."

"Finally! Let me use the restroom. I'll be back," Kim said, excusing herself from the table.

As Kim left to use the restroom, Susan's eyes followed her until she was out of sight. Suddenly, Susan's expression grew dark and she muttered under her breath, "Liar!" The words hung in the air as Susan tried to shake off the feeling of betrayal that had washed over her.

Susan couldn't shake the feeling that Kim was hiding something. She couldn't explain why, but something about Kim' so story just didn't seem right.

As she waited for Kim's return, Susan tried to push the feeling aside and focus on the task at hand. But deep down, she knew that something was off, and she couldn't wait to confront Kim about it.
