Chapter 18 - Hunters

As I looked over my new powers, I felt a surge of cold flow through my body, invigorating me. I felt as though I had frozen the blood in my veins, however they still flowed just like normal. It was a characteristic change to my mana, which meant from now on I would be adding Ice properties to any magic I cast.

To test this out, I entered a Normal dungeon, and pierced a Goblin with my sword. The Body slowly began to freeze as the sword stayed in it, but by the time I removed my sword it's body had been plagued by frost bite. Limbs becoming functionally dead within seconds of my blade staying in contact.

[Snap Freeze] froze the ground around me. At this moment the skill was only reaching around five feet around me, but later I would be able to freeze much further. Ice Block created a block of ice that went around me, but it moved with me. It felt like an umbrella that I had to push around with my mana. Speaking of, using all my skills drained my mana to about half, which made me a little light headed.

I was not used to using mana since my floating sword didn't require any mana to control, so my capacity was lacking, but that was only the case for now.

As I began to play with my new spells, I had gotten an idea of how to move forward now. I also received a defensive skill, which made me confident to challenge the Hard difficulty. I planned to challenge the Hard difficulty tomorrow, so I would spend the rest of today looking for gear and making money. I was getting closer to my 80,000 gold goal, to buy the materials for Hailey to craft my Orochi's 1st Fang, so I wanted to focus on that.

After I left the dungeon, and as I prepared to enter another one, I heard the doorbell ring. I went to the door, to see who it was, and had my sword nearby. As I opened the door, I saw a tall dark skinned man, and a slightly shorter Asian man.

"Theodore Holton, age 26, didn't finish High School, unemployed and somehow able to buy a $400,000 house." The dark skinned man said, looking at the house and then at me.

"What, are you two with the IRS or something?" I asked, defensively. I was worried because I was unsure of how the gold exchange worked in real life.

"Haha, no, we are nothing like that. Besides, we know that the money from the Shop exchange is untraceable." the Asian man said, chuckling. "We know you're a Hunter, Mr. Holton. Which makes you far more dangerous than a tax evader."

As he said that, I immediately acted because they both materialized weapons in their hands. My shield appeared in my hand, and I charged the Asian man. I blocked his vision with my shield, and held his hand that had materialized a weapon. It was a long katana so he wouldn't be able to make any quick movements.

The dark skinned man went to help his friend when he stopped suddenly.

"Don't move, or I will kill you right now." I said. My floating sword was pressed firmly into his neck, and had started to draw blood from his attempt to move. "Now who are you two, and why did you want to attack me?"

"Take it easy okay, you've made it clear that you're stronger than us. We're part of a government organization, we are both Hunters, and we came to investigate you. The division we are in found your post, and tracked you down." the dark skinned man said.

I thought for a second, it made sense that they tried to attack me when they found out I was a Hunter. There is no way the government would allow people like me to just be free, with the amount of power one person could gain, however these two were weak. They didn't have any mana in their bodies, and their physical Stats were lower than mine.

To be fair, I did have full (Blue) gear that gave me additional stats, but it was still surprising to see an organization not have powerful members.

"What level are you guys?"

"Level? We don't have levels yet. We are not that powerful, we were only given a couple items to improve our strength and sent to capture Hunters... We weren't going to kill you.." The Asian man said, looking uncomfortable with my shield pressed against his throat.

At this moment, while I was weighing my choices, Hailey came out of the front door. She was again covered in blood, but seeing me in a standoff with two unknown men, she materialized her axe. She began to emit intense killing intent, that made the two men begin to sweat in fear.

"Is there a problem here, Theodore?" she asked, looking at the two men coldly as she began walking towards them.

"They're with the government. It looks like they are part of a division of the government that is comprised of Hunters. They're lower ranked, and have not reached System Level 2. They're not really a threat to us, but their purpose was to being us in and turn us over to their superiors. I think they might be forcefully recruiting." I explained to Hailey.

She nodded her head, before speaking. "Should we kill them?"

The two men shook in fear, as they knew this woman who was covered in blood and wielded a giant two hand axe, would not lose sleep over their deaths.

"W-w-we aren't going to be the only ones the government sends! We can help you set up a meeting with our leaders! That way we can stop bothering you! We are just two people who recently enlisted, and happened to become Hunters. Someone higher up awakened too, and they are the ones who began finding all the Hunters." the dark skinned man began to say. "We really don't want to die, please don't kill us. We really do just want to not get into conflict with you.. We are sorry..."

I looked at the two men, and saw remorse in their expressions. I stood up slowly, and my sword retracted from the dark skinned man's throat.

"Come inside, and call your superior. Tell them a meeting happens now." I said, before walking inside. As I turned my back, the Asian man turned and tried to run.

"NO!" the dark skinned man shouted, trying to stop his partner.

However, before the man could get more than 10 feet away, Hailey sprinted towards him. She flew past the dark skinned man and grabbed the Asian by his head. She slammed him face first into the ground, knocking him out instantly.

"You better start making that call." I said, causing the dark skinned man to turn around and look at me. My eyes were tranquil without any trace of worry or care about what just happened. As if Hailey and I expected for the other guy to run.
