Chapter 20 - Runaways

I walked up to the dark skinned man, and looked down at him. This man shook in fear, because he didn't understand what was happening. The two men were sharing information, when suddenly his superiors eyes glaze over and admit to his crimes. He then saw the man named Theodore execute his boss immediately.

"You are only alive because I have not felt that you wanted to truly hurt me so far. You have a good head on your shoulders, I think you could be a valuable part of the team to defend humanity. Tell me if I am wrong?" Theodore said the the man.

His eyes shook, and he felt an emotion he had never felt from his superior: Respect. The man in front of him, respected him? Why, he was just a nobody, even after joining the army he was no one... But this man thought differently.

"My-my name is Lionel Harding." Lionel said, still unsure of how to feel.

Theodore then sent him a friend request, a feature he had unlocked with his System Level 3. It allowed him to communicate with his friends over any distance, instantaneously.

Lionel accepted the message that appeared before him.

"What will you do now? I don't think the government will appreciate you killing their top Hunter." Lionel asked.

"It was his fault for being weaker than me and trying to play tricks. I'll leave the country, and find somewhere quiet to live. We can enter the Dungeons from anywhere so it doesn't matter. I'm more worried about you..." I began to think for a bit, before I looked Lionel in the eyes. "Lionel, this is going to hurt, but it's for your own good..."

I then swiftly chopped his arm off. Lionel fell to the floor screaming. I gave him a health Potion, and told him to drink it. His wounds closed, and he began to calm down a little.

"This is your plan? To cut my arm off and cripple me?" Lionel said, angrily.

"No Lionel, I am making you look like a victim. If you go back unharmed, you will look suspicious. Tell them that I am sending a message. 'Don't f*ck with me'. When you get back, and deliver that message, you tell them what happened here today, that I killed your superior and left you to be the sole survivor." I said, I also then handed Lionel a [Body Restoration Potion] I just bought from the Shop. "Use this once the suspicion has been lifted from yourself. Say you bought it from the Shop yourself. I'm sorry to put this burden on you Lionel, but I think it is better for you to do this than to be on the run with me. When I grow my strength enough, I will come to claim you back ad my ally. I swear on it."

Lionel looked me in the eyes, and understood my determination. He believed me, and decided to place his faith in me. Breathing deeply he stood up and left. After he left, I executed the Asian man who tried to run earlier. He seemed not trustworthy, because he tried to deceive me for the chance to tell his higher ups to bring more men to attack me.

After all this was finished, Hailey finally began to talk.

"So, I guess we go get ready to flee the country?" she said, smiling.

"You don't have to. I doubt they know about you, so they should only be looking for me. I'm going to buy a face changing mask from the Shop, and make my way around the world to find somewhere to settle down and explore dungeons." I said, I was afraid to look at her in this moment. For fear that my heart would waver if I looked at her. I would want to take her with me, but that would expose her to countless danger. In my heart, I told myself she would be better off without me.

As those thoughts were taking hold of my heart, she suddenly hugged me. Her soft embrace crumbled all walls of resistance I had, and I couldn't muster the strength to push her away. So I just let her hold me.

"I told you, we are in this together. No matter what, I will be by your side... So stop trying to make the decisions for me." she said tenderly, while stroking my hair.

I wanted to protest but I knew she was right. She was free to make her own decisions, and deep down I wanted to stay by her side no matter what. I just needed to be strong enough to protect her no matter what.

I handed her components, and told her I would head to store to buy suitcases and some some essentials. As I left, she began to drag the corpses into the dungeon, and feed them to the wolves.

I arrived after a short ride on the bus, at a nearby mall. I walked toward a clothing store I knew carried all sorts of goods, and began to look for suitcases.

As I was walking around, I failed to notice that someone in the store had recognized me and was watching me. So I kept shopping without realizing trouble was coming to find me.

**** Ryan Holton's POV ****

Ever since my trash brother stopped giving me money, I had to start working again, and my life had just been getting worse and worse. I crashed my BMW and was riddled with insurance debt. All because of this useless piece of shit.

So I had a dead end job at this store in the mall, and I had to keep answering these stupid poor people's questions. As I was folding some T-Shirts, I saw someone I thought had disappeared, my brother. I had been looking for that trash since he kicked me out that one day! I returned after with a gang of thugs to rough him up, but he had just disappeared. He didn't return that night either. Or the next. One week went by and I couldn't find him at all. After talking to the police they said he had moved and that he didn't disappear. When I went to a real estate agent, they told me they would not disclose client information.

This infuriated him to no avail, because the person who stole all of his money had ran off, and hid away.

But now the rat came out of his hiding hole. It was now that if Ryan were paying closer attention, he would notice that Theodore was much more muscular, was very handsome, and was no longer walking with a limp, however his rage blinded him from these key points.

Ryan called someone on his phone, "Big bro, that guy I told you about who stole all of my money showed up at my place of work. Come teach him a lesson, quickly!"

"Okay, but stop calling me Big Bro, just make sure you can actually pay us after we beat this guy up. If it's another ghost chase like last time, we are going to beat you instead!" a gruff voice sounded through the phone.

"Okay okay, I promise this will be worth it for you and your boys." Ryan ended the phone call after that, and waited. He followed Theodore around the store the making sure he didn't lose sight of his brother again.
