Theodore Holton, a 26 year old high school dropout who was currently working as a construction laborer, and shunned by most people he met. He had suffered from a car accident, in his Sophmore year at High School, that left him crippled and unable to compete in sports. After his accident, while he received a huge payout from the lawsuit over his accident, his parents took the money and spent it frivolously. The money that was obtained by his blood, the money that was supposed to sustain the rest of his life, was spent on luxuries for his family that openly hated him.
His father and mother both died from drug overdose when Theodore was 23, and the only family Theodore had left was his brother who had constantly put Theodore down, while being one of the largest spenders of Theodore's money. His brother had bought a house, and only worked enough to pay for the low property tax. The rest of his time was spent using the last hundred thousand of the lawsuit, to party and impress women.
Theodore was currently laying on a dirt floor, staring at a cave ceiling while thinking about these things. He was going through his life story, trying to figure out if he had done something to deserve a punishment, however he had always been a thoughtful person who never hurt anyone. That made the situation before him even harder to accept.
[You have been selected to be a Hunter. Your job is to enter Gates, and hunt. Your current location is a Goblin cave, after all the Goblins are hunted, you will be returned to your world with a reward. Each Hunter has a unique system, you can bring this up by thinking of the word 'Status'. Have a wonderful hunt.]
This would have been exciting for anyone else, Theodore was even an avid novel reader who loved this kind of story, however reality was much crueler. Theodore was a cripple. He had a hard time walking due to his leg that was mangled. It was unable to exert any strength, it could only be leaned on due to the fact it could not bend. How would you hunt anything? He couldn't chase after anything.
Even worse were his stats.
[Stats
Strength: 0.5
Agility: 0.5
Intellect: 3
Charisma: 0.5]
The system told him that the average stats of a human started at 1, which meant that he was far weaker than every other Hunter. Theodore's stats were abysmal. While he was laying down, with tears streaming down his face, he received another notification.
[Guaranteed Drop System has successfully been activated. Every monster will Drop something on death, no matter what!]
[Beginner Package has been given to new Hunters. The monsters will spawn into the dungeon in 10 minutes, please prepare carefully.]
Theodore quickly navigated the system and found more features. One of them being a subspace inventory that could be used to store things. Inside was the beginner package the system had talked about, which Theodore promptly clicked on and selected to use.
A wooden chest appeared before him, and opened on its own. After the lid finally opened, a light shone from within, and Theodore saw a screen listing his gains.
[Rusty Rapier (Grey) obtained.]
[Overclock Scroll obtained.]
[1 Health Potion obtained.]
[100 gold obtained.]
Theodore equipped the rapier, which was a thin sword with a single edge, it was mainly used for fencing if his memory was correct. It had incredible piercing strength, however it's weakness was that it wouldn't be able to exert much cutting power. As he looked over the other items, he looked at the description of the Overclock scroll.
[Overclock Scroll]
Single use item. When used it will allow the user to exhibit twice their physical abilities, for 30 seconds, after which the user will suffer severe backlash. The user will be unable to move for 30 hours.
It was exactly what he needed to be able to fight at least on even ground. He saw the gold and the health Potion, however they seemed pretty self explanatory so he didn't bother looking at them for too long. He wanted to look at the shop, since he had a bit of gold, however he was interrupted by a new notification.
[Monsters will be spawned in 10 seconds.]
