Chapter 2 - Strange New World

I couldn't believe my eyes. The plate of food just flew onto my table without anyone touching it. I was in shock. I looked at my mother with wide eyes, trying to understand what was going on.

As I looked around the room, I noticed that everything was different. The furniture, the paintings on the wall, and even the architecture were different from what I was used to. It was like I was in a completely different world.

I tried to recall how I got here. I remembered saving a little girl from getting hit by a bus, and then I almost hit myself. Everything went black, and the next thing I knew, I was waking up in this strange bedroom. It was all so confusing.

I tried pinching myself, hoping that I was just dreaming, but it didn't work. I was definitely awake, and I was definitely not in my own world anymore.

Suddenly, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. There was some sort of tab window beside my mother, displaying some blurry text. I tried to focus on it, but everything was too blurry to make out.

Then, I saw the words "Human" and "Origin Level" written on the tab. I squinted, trying to get a better look, but my mother noticed and asked me what I was doing.

I quickly pretended that it was nothing, but my mind was racing. Was this some sort of magical world? And what did that tab mean? I had so many questions, but I didn't know who to ask or where to start.

What is that? Human? Yes, I know what a human is but why is there something called "Origin Level" next to her? This is so confusing. It's like some sort of leveling system from those RPG games I play.

I sat there, staring at the strange window beside my mother. The letters on it were all blurry and unreadable, but I knew they were there. I pointed at it, trying to get my mother's attention.

"Mom, look at this," I said, my voice trembling with confusion.

"What is it, Yamiru?" she asked, turning to me with concern.

"This window... it's like the tab you would see on a computer screen," I explained, hoping that would make sense to her.

But to my surprise, she had no idea what I was talking about. "A computer? What's that?" she asked, her brow furrowed in confusion.

I was shocked. Had I somehow ended up in a world without computers? It seemed impossible, but as I looked around the room, I realized that there were no electronic devices to be seen.

I tried to explain what a computer was, but it quickly became clear that my mother had never heard of such a thing. She seemed worried about my strange behavior, asking me repeatedly if I was alright.

I couldn't blame her for being concerned. After all, I had woken up in a strange room, in a strange world, with no memory of how I had gotten there. And now I was seeing strange windows that no one else could see.

As I tried to make sense of it all, I began to remember something. A little girl, running into the street, was about to be hit by a bus. I had pushed her out of the way, but in doing so, I had put myself in danger. I remembered feeling a sharp pain, and then... nothing.

Was this some kind of afterlife? A dream? Or was it something else entirely?

Should I just tell her that I'm from a different world? If I do, what if she doesn't end up believing me, or worst what if she ends up thinking that I'm crazy and sends me into a madhouse? I need to learn more about this world but I can't keep acting suspicious like this because if I keep doing this. I'm going to catch your attention.

"You seem to be acting strangely today dear. I know you're stressed about your first day in a new city and a new school but I believe that we can

My mother continued to talk to me, trying to calm my nerves and reassure me that everything was going to be alright. "We recently moved into this city and a new school, so don't be intimidated by everything," she said with a warm smile. "It's a nice change of pace from our old city."

I nodded, trying to take in everything she was saying. It was still so strange to me, this new world I found myself in. I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed and confused. But my mother's words did seem to offer some comfort, even if they didn't quite dispel my apprehension completely.

As she spoke, I felt my memories of my past self begin to merge with my current consciousness. I remembered bits and pieces of the old city, how it was always full and packed with people, how the lights never seemed to dim and everything was always noisy. It was so different from this new place, which was quiet and peaceful.

Despite this, I still couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. Everything felt too perfect, too serene. And then there was that strange tab window that only I seemed to be able to see.

"I just can't seem to shake this feeling that something's off," I admitted to my mother.

She placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. "It's natural to feel that way when everything is so new and different. But don't worry, you'll get used to it soon enough."

I nodded again, trying to take her words to heart. But it was difficult to ignore the nagging sense of unease that was still gnawing at me. So I just resumed eating, hopefully that will get my mind of things.

As I ate my meal, I couldn't help but think back to the little girl I had saved. Was this my reward for my act of heroism? Was I now in a world of magic and wonder because of it? It all seemed so surreal.

Well, technically I did die when I got hit by the bus. Could it be that I got reincarnated?
