Chapter 45 - Doors Of Life and Death

This time, all three moved in sync. Minos picked the middle door, with Venix to the left of him. This hallway seemed longer than the last, and Minos knew there was a high possibility that either him or Venix wouldn't make it to the other side.

But fortune smiled on the two of them once more, and this time the beautiful woman was no more, seemingly forever lost behind the door.

Minos and Venix looked at each other as they exited, and the two couldn't help but laugh. Surviving until now was a marvel, but there from here on, there would be no more miracles.

Minos stood still this time, instead signaling Venix to take the lead. Venix couldn't help but pause for a moment, but eventually picked the door on the right. Minos watched as he disappeared behind the door while smiling.

"Hey strange man, I can't see you, but I know you must be watching right now right? Well if you are, then, I just want to remind you, you never said two people couldn't go through the same door." Minos laughed, as he also entered the right door.

The strange man who had been watching up until this moment paused, but recalling back, he realized Minos was right. As annoyed as he was, he had to follow his own rules, so he could only watch as Minos made his choice.

Despite this journey only being a few seconds, Minos somehow felt it was longer than the time it took him to reach this point all the way from the Green Barrel Sect. Just as time seemed to drag on forever, Minos saw the light at the end of the tunnel, shining on Venix's back.

He couldn't help but smile as he reached out and grabbed Venix's shoulder, much to the latters surprise.

"How is that possible? Shouldn't you have picked the other door?" Venix asked in confusion, and Minos quickly explained the slight loophole in the rules, but even then Venix was still befuddled.

"But why did you pick the same door as me? If I picked the death door, we would have both died." Venix asked, still wondering.

"Hey, I just always felt you were a little bit more lucky." Minos replied with a grin. Venix couldn't help but laugh.

"I guess you were right, but now what? This should have been the last trial, but now that there's two of us, what will happen." Venix couldn't help but ask.

"It's up to the strange man, but hopefully the test ends here." Minos responded.

Under the two's eyes, the strange man suddenly appeared into the room, looking at them both with a little annoyance in his eyes.

"Normally, one of you should have survived, and the inheritance would have gone to him, but since it's both of you, I suddenly have a little problem in my hand."

The strange man grabbed at his chin as he tried to come up with a solution on the spot. And soon, he couldn't help but come up with a brilliant solution.

"I know, since there's two of you left, how about we play one more game." The strange man said with a slightly evil smile.

"Seeing as you two seem to be good friends, then this trial might actually be the easiest one you'll have to go through. The rules are simple, both of you can either claim the inheritance yourself, or ask to share."

"But here's the interesting part." He couldn't help but say as his smile got bigger. "If one of you chooses the inheritance and the other doesn't, then the person who chose it will get everything."

"If both of you choose the inheritance, then neither of you will get anything, and you'll both leave this inheritance empty handed. In a way, leaving alive will become your reward."

"And finally, if you both choose to share, then naturally the inheritance will be split between you two. You both have to say declare your decisions at the same time, and you naturally can't refer to another in an attempt to cheat."

The strange man laughed as he finished saying. He couldn't help but get a little excited, wondering what two 'friends' would do given this game's rules.

Would greed win out, with one deciding to take everything for themselves. Or would their friendship stand the test of trial, with them both choosing to share.

"You have one minute to make your decision, and on my call, you will both answer."
