Chapter 16 - Chapter 15: The Hill (Part 1)

I laying my body on the couch, then took a deep breath and close my eyes. "Huft…"

"Are you alright?" Mrs. Sherlyn approaches me after she puts the blanket on my bed. I decide to move to Mrs. Sherlyn's house because of that rumor. Mr. McKenna called me to his office after I dropped Evelyn and Irene at the clinic.

He's the mayor. I have no choice but to obey or depart. I had questions about the town's past and Rose's identity. What makes her look so powerful?

I mean… it's true. Her presence makes the residents feel inferior and leave. They bowed their head, then leave. Should I investigate this town? "Earth called Julia?" Mrs. Sherlyn keeps calling me.

I shook my head, then took a deep breath. "Who is Rose?" I looked at Mrs. Sherlyn. Her expression changed.

She sits on the bed, then took a deep breath. "You should ask her by yourself, but you are still under surveillance." At least, I still have a motive to apologize.

Jason. He's the key to all the mess in this town, right? The mayor warned me about him. "Does Jason is biological Rose's brother?" I asked her.

Mrs. Sherlyn again avoids my question by walking away from me. How should I describe this town in the book? I should visit Mr. Harold to let him know about the progress. I stared at the ceiling while thinking about my next move.

Sometimes I feel homesick. I miss my mansion in Austin. Oh, God. I should bring my Nintendo with me. Wait… Kirana. "Julia, Julia…" I get up as the twins running hurried towards me. They bring books in their hand, then giving it to me.

Okay… "can you help us for doing our homework?" Okay, they cancel their plan because of me, and I feel bad. I should help them.

"S-sure…" Fuck. I'm not good at math. Shit. Unitary method. If 5 books cost $20, how much will 8 books cost?

"Um…" I heard knocking on my door.

"Julia was bad with math." I rolled my eyes, then exhale. Irene walks towards me and snatches the book. "The answer is… c. $32"

I let her explain how to solving the problem. She can become a perfect wife. She's a model, beautiful, and loveable. Being with you is what I desire, but regaining her love is unlikely. Looking at her while interacting with them makes me want to kiss her, but she's not mine anymore.

I guess this is my cue to leave. I grabbed my motorcycle key. "Where were you going?" Mrs. Sherlyn brings a tray with full of fruits. I picked 5 slices of apple. "You didn't want to sneak to her…"

"I have to visit Harold." If she doesn't want to answer, I will find the answer by myself. No matter what happened, I don't want hiding the fact.

I parked my motorcycle in front of the public library. This building was… a saloon? They keep the door. How vintage it was.

"Julia? What are you doing here!?" Rose glared at me. I saw her hand bleeding. It has an exact spot as mine. What she doing here? "I…"

I hold her right hand to examine her wound. "I-I'll call sheriff!" Does she just threatening me!?

Nevermind. She can't do that because I'm here to visiting library. Not sneak into her house, or forced her to sleep together. I ripped my handkerchief, then rolled around her wound. "You need to get some help."

When I walked inside, this library was fantastic! They know what should they keep and dump. Although this place was old. They followed trend and… this library has a public Wi-Fi. "Hi." I snatched the book, then helping her to walk. "Ah… thank you, dear." She sits on her chair, then gives me a brochure about the orphanage on the hill.

This is the orphanage that Harold talked about. I saw an empty donation box. No wonder he wants half the revenue of this book goes to that orphanage. I picked my wallet, then put inside some of my money. "What do you want here? We are about to close soon."

"Maybe… I'll comeback tomorrow?" I raised my eyebrow. The old lady just smiled at me, then nodding her head. I shouldn't leave her alone.

"Mrs. Parker, I… should go home now because my husband needs me. Can you clean the floor in the archive room for me?"

What kind of favor is that!? She asking to the old woman? No, I shouldn't let her doing this alone. I closed the door, then approach her.

"Mrs. Parker? I want to work as a volunteer. Will you accept me?" The old lady on nodding her head slowly. "You can go home, Mrs. Parker. Having a great night." then I looked at that woman. "Don't worry, ma'am. I cleaned that up for you. Have a good night!" I snatched the keys.

I don't care if she called me disrespect or fame sucker. All I care about is, the old lady will get a proper rest. She's… 80s, maybe? Whatever. I don't care about her age.

I walked to the archive room and ending up get lost. This saloon was huge. Maybe in the past, the saloon owner has lots of customer, so he expanding the building and… what is this room? It's already unlocked. Should I peek at what's inside that room?

I hope found a treasure, then I donate to the museum here. "Mom? What are you doing here?" I closed the door immediately, then turned around. Shit. You always give me a heart attack, Rose.

She furrowed her eyes, crossed her arms over her chest. "What are you doing here!?" I closed the door, then unlocked. "Call the sheriff. I don't care. Your "mom" told the old lady there to clean the archive room. I decide to become a volunteer here."

I walk past her, then keep looking for an archive room. Mom? Okay, noted. She has a mom who worked here as the janitor. It's still not answering me about who she is. It's more complicated as it's look. Should I ask Kim for help? He is already busy with my lawsuit.

That greedy publisher wants me to pay them back, but I refused. It's all because of Henry. After he punches me at the motel. I don't know his whereabout.

I opened the window and looked at the hill up there. I can see a big old mansion lighten up the orange sky on that hill. Is that the orphanage? I should pay them a visit.

I read the brochure that the old lady gives me earlier and sighed. No wonder they don't have a donator. I should pay them a visit after I've done my business here.
