Julia Harianto. My last name was from my dad's name. That means I'm her daughter, and he was my dad, but for me, I'm not her daughter anymore. I took a deep breath after I'm reading an email from my dad's lawyer. He informs about my dad's illness.
As his unborn child, I should return to Indonesia as soon as possible. I close my laptop and rubbed my face. "Julia, what's wrong!? I heard from my father you dad was…"
I leaned my back and nodding my head. "His lawyer informs me an hour ago." Kirana nodding her head, then she sitting on the couch, while scrolling through the feeds. She's looking for a news it's already spread or not. Sometimes I wonder how journalist find money for living?
I mean they writing news, right? What if they writing news just for a penny? Writing a title for clickbait, writing a fake news, and what else?
"You should go home soon. He wants to announce who will become his next successor." She said.
I don't know about it. In other hand, I want to buy a ticket and leave this country. "I can't run a company. Maybe he will give it to his right hand or someone who deserves it."
Kirana whining, then she approaching me. She puts her hand on my head. "I can sense you will become the richest person in the world." I brushed her hand, frowning.
"I don't know about that." I'm a lesbian. That means I'm part of LGBTQ+ community. Whenever I go, I can see discrimination from other people. "I moved to Austin and living until today. It's difficult. It will become your success or not, I don't know. I heard Indonesia… doesn't like people like me to thrive."
Kirana took a deep breath and stroke my hair. "You'll see when you get there. I'm not trying to become hypocrite towards them, but love is love." I took a deep breath. "My relationship with Anthony wasn't normal to them," she said.
"I already told my dad that I'm not interested in a man, and his family probably… will disagree with his decision." Kirana took a deep breath and standing next to me.
"What you concerned about…" we looking at the door and that brown-haired woman again.
"Who are you?" She fingering my hand.
"That author." I'm looking at Kirana. She furrowed her brow. "Um… what are you doing here?" She fingering my face. My heart pounding fast. I hope she's okay with sweat on my face. Kirana cleared her throat.
"I-I'm sorry." It's okay. "Who are you? I…"
"She is my lawyer," Kirana raised her brow. I blinked my eyes several times.
"Ah… right." Kirana scratching her hair. "Yes, I'm… her lawyer." Kirana dragged me outside of the room.
"Do you know her?" She lowering her voice.
I shrugged my shoulders. "I think…" Mrs. Jenkins rashly approaching us. Her face looks pale. She's looking for something?
"Where's my granddaughter?" We furrowed our brows. Granddaughter? Who is your granddaughter? The brown-haired woman inside?
"Grandma?" Grandma? What the fuck. That woman is Mrs. Brag Bitch's granddaughter? If it's true, then whose are her parents? She gets inside and slammed the door. None of us dare to speak.
"I think… I need time to process everything." Kirana leaves me. I followed her to this mansion's backyard. "Do you know everything about that!?"
"I just… hear a minute ago." Kirana covered her face, then massaging her temple with her finger. What's wrong with the society nowadays? Does she embarrass to have a blind granddaughter!? She's pretty though.
"Earth called Julia!?" I'm looking at Kirana, who already munching a macaroon. "Do you want this?" She showed me the macaroon. I shook my head. I took a deep breath and enjoy our last day inside this mansion. Tomorrow we should go back to the mainland.
What if… I extend my stay here? I still feel guilty called her Mrs. Brag Bitch. she took care all of them with love. I should make amends to Mrs. Jenkins as soon as possible. "Hey, can you… return without me tomorrow?"
Kirana looks at me with her brow furrowed. "What do you mean?" She asks.
"I… want to make sure everything is good. I will return by the next bus." That bus will return in four days later.
"We should return together, Julia. Do you have something in mind, don't you?" She's got me. I took a deep breath. I'm standing and get back inside.
"Oh!" I accidentally bump her. "I-I'm sorry…" she rashly walked away with tears in her eyes. I took a deep breath and looked at her. What's wrong with you? It's not my business, anyway. It's her problem. Not mine. I'm walking to my study room and see Mrs. Jenkins sits on the couch.
I'm walking to my desk, tidying my belongings. "Do you hear everything?" I'm turn my head and raised my eyebrow. I've eavesdropping on your conversation with father Matthew, not with your granddaughter.
I zipped the bag, took a deep breath. I'm approaching her with something I wanted to say. Everything! For the past two weeks, I tried not to write everything about what happened inside this mansion because… I need straight answers.
"I want to apologize because I'm eavesdropping on your conversation several days ago." It's not my fault, right? I heard her screaming, and the door was slightly open.
Mrs. Jenkins took a deep breath and exhale. Judging from her expression, she's not surprised, or she already knew I'm eavesdropping? "I hope your efforts to bring us to go fundraiser successful." She said.
"I'm here genuinely to help." I said.
Mrs. Jenkins looks at me. "If you genuinely want to help, why don't you…"
"My cousin was a lawyer. She took her lawyer license in 2017 and she open practice as freelance. I heard some lawyers open their own firm and promote it on YouTube, right?" Mrs. Jenkins nodding her head.
"People always thought I'm a rich-lady who likes buy Prada, Bvlgari, LV, and everything branded items I can buy. Little that media knows, I'm doing that to make an impression. I want all my colleagues, guests, and everyone knows I run this place." She said.
"Some people don't need buying those fancy brands to know they rule an orphanage." I took a deep breath. It's my last day, but something block my thoughts about her. Right, her granddaughter. Why she doesn't want people knows about her family? I wanted to know more about her. Maybe it will become a resource for my blog.
Yeah. I should know more about her.
